This is exactly what I was told at my hobby shop: like Craig says: 4WD makes the better-handling car. 2WD makes the better driver. I own both, and I have to say, I love 2WD more than four. Less expensive in time and money, and very rewarding once you understand throttle and steering control. Great video!

Yeah but saying a 2wd is better all aronud yould be a lie also the 2wd can't pull half of the stunts a 4wd can also the off road even with a good 2wd it's still barely doable and if the grass/gronud is wet even worse.

Got both here as well. 2wd brushed and 4wd VXL brushless. Agree with the others her, 2wd is a lot of fun and gives you more of a challenge, even with the stock brushed motor. Very low maintenance and very good durability too with the “simpler” layout.
I put the optional center diff on my 4wd (2-Cell Lipo only!) - Can’t do wheelies anymore, but handling and turn in in cornering is waaay better. 2wd hugs the corners in tight spaces better still. Can’t go wrong with either of them.

2wd is more fun on road and on the track, now 4wd is definitely easier to control and faster around the track but 2wd is crazy fun. Turned my 2wd brushed slash into a 3s brushless 2wd and it’s amazing 🤣

Switch it up when you go 4wd! Nothing better than switching between drastically different RCs, I love the losi DBpro for my 4wd car, it’s PLANTED and stupid tough. Then when my pack dies and the motor cools a bit I drive my 2wd slash. I feel like if all my cars felt the same I’d get bored!

  • @OBS4ever16

I have had experience with both. If you want to bash at a skatepark. Than 4wd is the way to go for stunts. If you enjoy a challenge of driving or like to drift in the dirt. 2wd is the way to go. I personally prefer 2wd unless im skatepark bashing.

  • @myharryface

This is a great video for folks considering jumping into RC. I would suggest this be a series. Next show the driving dynamics differences between the two. In another video talk about why the tires are different. In another show some simple repairs ... items that are the same like changing tires or bearings and things that are different like a driveshaft and lack of one. Finally have a video where you hop up each one with a few more performance parts ... so people can understand how each platform can grow. Oooh ... then maybe contrast that with a video where you compare the 4x4 Stampede to the Maxx (aka mini Maxx) and what twice the price gets you. Ok ... truly last ... then a video on the Maxx with a 3s and 4s battery to see performance differences. -- Hope that's helpful!

First rc i had was a 2wd Tamiya Blackfoot..decent truck for bashing but the second one I've owned was the 4×4 clodbuster. Great control and good power. Now to update: got a XRT 4wd and it's just a beast for great handling and power. Just bought a 4wd slash and that truck is fantastic for off road fun. But this is just my opinion since everyone has different tastes of RC driving.

I’d rather have a bigger truck if I’m going 4wd, there’s a reason the stampede 2wd has been around almost 30 years pretty much unchanged, outside of being upgraded to handle more power! It’s a beast! And they can handle a lot of abuse!

    • @V8chump

Yea and if it’s the same trans as the 2wd slash it’s crazy tough… I have the stock trans/driveshafts from my 2wd brushed slash hitting 70mph on a 3s brushless power. Gotta be triple the stock speed 🤣

For 2 years I have owned Traxxs Big Foot No. 1 2RD and it is a great choice for people who want to spend not much and have maximum fun. A year of time I replaced lektrojike and engine and brushless but I still use nimh batteries. It makes drifts beautifully on dusty roads. Rear-wheel drive is more fun than driving at a whispering speed, where every tipper exposes you to damage to the model. Here you are not a speed demon, but the sight of the rear wheel boxing and how the car stands on end gives a smile on your face. I recommend 2RD. Less breakdowns, lots of fun

Most likely just the tires. The stock slash tires roll on the rim and flip if you really spin the rear end around, that’s part of the fun though too, it feels great racing a 2wd around the track when you get the hang of it

These are 2 very different trucks chassis wise. Its not just 2wd vs 4wd here, the 4wd is by far way stronger. The 4wd here will take an absolute beating and not break. If you bash the more fragile 2wd they tend to have a lot weaker front hubs and rear hubs.
My money is on the 4wd platform if I plan on sending it. 2wd if I wanna just run flat out and do some wheelies and stuff.. 2wd traxxas is still a blast and still get through most grass etc without issue

The car seems really impressive and would be nice to have a review about it. Furthermore would be great to have a serious professional comparison of UDR vs SBRv2 and now maybe vs YiKong DF7 4072. There are tons of comparison of UDR vs Mojave that they are totally not comparable but no serious comparison of UDR vs SBRv2 that except for the scale they should have almost the same driving target. So... you asked for ideas :) I gave you mine. Thanks for your work and a feedback would be appreciated ;)

I think it depends on what u run it on. 2 wd get stuck faster in sand and snow. Also 4wd is more stable. more traction. I use to have a 1/5 fg monster truck and it was really fast with a 26cc tuned motor. But hard to handle due to the speed and power on the back wheels. i also had a nitro car 1/10 4wd and made it 2wd. Driving it was just impossible.
So see it as a normal car. on sand u really need a 4wd to get it moving,i also had a reely carbon fighter pro 2 wd and if it stopped on sand it wasnt moving at all anymore. So i say go with 4wd to srat with. u can always make it 2wd easely.

My two cent of this that if i ever in my childhood or even now got a 2wd traxxas as a gift i would be fking blessed but if i pay for it even if it's 70 dollars more which we all know it can be cheaper the 4wd is more versatile and give you that 70$ more fun. Also upgrades if you hookup with the hobby the 2wd is dead end for further upgrades which makes it more useable in different scenarios it's jsut it you can put a better motor in it for grater speed different gearing a better tyre to be faster on road but nothing makes it more useful off road or even dirt roads to compete with a 4x4 no matter how good of a driver you are. So in the long run is it cheaper??? I laerned the hard way if you don't go with an upgadable platform you will fall face first every time. Also if you want some 2wd fun 4wd can be made 2wd easier just disconnect the linkage and can easily revert back to 4x4. With this basic 2wd how to call it underbody is not cabable to convert to 4x4 you need the wider body which also plus money.

Cool I can appreciate that And like I said nothing at all against you. It just seems like traxxas pulled a bud light but obviously on a way smaller scale and they are trying to repair their reputation

In what world is a 2wd RC Car ever better.. These are Hobby if you cannot afford the hobby you shouldn't do the hobby... It's expendable income, specially in the RC world. Stuff breaks a lot...

2WD and 4WD are both fun, but forget Traxxas!! Why not discuss something more worthwhile, like ARRMA vehicles? Nice try plugging Traxxas, Fanboy!!!!

When buying a Traxxas don't forget to budget for a suspension upgrade immediately. Their shocks suck.
