  • The Wadi el Gimal National Park is still little known and visited. The Wadi el Gimal, "the Valley of the Camels", is located about 45 kilometers south of Marsa Alam in Egypt. It is one of the largest valleys of the Eastern Desert or Arabian Desert, whose name indicates the region between the Nile and the Red Sea. The National Park, proclaimed in 2003, consists of a terrestrial part (4770 km²) and a marine part (2000 km²). The latter extends over 120 km of coast, often bordered by mangroves, and is characterized by an extraordinary coral reef in which over 100 species of fish, turtles and dugongs live. A large island is included in the marine area, on which sea turtles lay their eggs and migratory birds stop. In the desert territory there are over 2000 Bedouins belonging to the Ababda Tribe and the area has always been famous for the oldest emerald mines in the world. All these peculiarities and the richness of its ecosystems make the Wadi el Gimal Protected Natural Park one of the most interesting areas in all of Egypt. To better discover the submerged and pristine wonders of this stretch of the Red Sea, you can stay at the Shams Alam Beach Resort, located inside the park, and rely on the Wadi el Gimal Diving Center which is the only diving center with permission to operate within Wadi el Gimal!
