  • We needed a light and big chicken tractor to pull along our pasture/grass so that our chickens could be as healthy as can be our homestead. In this video we build a big and light chicken tractor that only one person has to pull to move them along the grass. Homesteading is new to us bit we have loved the challenge to build structure like this one as learn!

    8 months later how are the 2x2 holding up? What would you do differently now? Did the tarps hold up? The cross brace is it still good horizontal or sagging? Great idea and thanks for sharing

    It looks just fine. I prefer function over aesthetics anyway. Good job!

    I think you did a great job. The double layer of wire is a good idea. Its good to be cheap and use just chicken wire until all your chicken dinners are eaten by wild critters. Where I live I have to have a dig barrier around any chicken pen too.

      You have to be cheap but practical. Don’t want to lose all those chickens that your raising, then you lose a lot of money. Thanks for the support Jim!

    So, I have yet to see a video on how you get the chickens out of these types of tractors. Do you crawl on all fours and climb in or fish net them? What would be a good way to catch the chickens when it's time to meet the Freezer Fairy? Thanks...

    Night? Don’t the raccoons just flip the top and jump in? Or coyotes push under it? Oh, I see you have a GP dog.😊

    They look like they grew overnight ! I did something like this with PVC pipe and no wire on the bottom. Something (probably coyotes got them after a week. I am building another and will have 2 inch chicken wire on the bottom. I use stucco wire instead of chicken wire enemy chicken enclosures, Much stronger. I really like your lighter chicken tractor.

      Did you leave them in there overnight? When did the predator attack?

    So, the bottom is just open to the grass? Or is there wire fencing on the bottom of the structure?
    Thanks for the content! From GR Michigan, no chickens yet, we’re early in the researching phase.

    • @AcresOfAdventure
      @AcresOfAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tracy! So yes it is all open to grass on the bottom. If you want you could put a little wire just on the outside/inside of the border of it that should prevent any predator from digging underneath. We have a Great Pyrenees guardian dog who helps keep a lot of those predators away. If your looking to get chickens keep them soon while the weather is still hot. Hope you guys figure everything out and chickens are fun and pretty easy to take care of! Thanks again

    Just assaulted by loud music immediately!
    Tone it down, people might stay more than 3 seconds.
