Brunei don't want to became any other countries, its not boring in Brunei its just peaceful if anyone want to go for rushed life go to Tokyo, if u want to do shopping go to Bangkok, the things is every place have its pro & contra, just adopted what and where u decide to fly to.. Brunei is special if u look for peaceful, quite & relaxed.

It's boring and under-maintained, with a terrible lack of investment except for the religious authorities. Poor food quality and terrible public transport. Funnily enough I like it there, but I'm old. I would hate to be a teenager in Brunei.

I recently got back from Brunei. Before Covid you could get a bus from Kuala Belait to Miri (and vice versa) now there is nothing. Getting to the immigration point on both sides is a real chore with a lack of public transport and a lack of taxis. In the end I had to ask a random man for a lift, lovely guy took me all the way to the airport. Maybe, that's why so few people visit, it's not easy to get in or out of for backpackers on a budget.
It's a shame about the Royal Regalia Museum being closed, It is actually a wonderful museum. Everything to do with 'the family' is top notch. Everything else is shabby. The food at Gadong night market was the worst I have had in Asia., Just poor quality everything.

Brunei is a strange country. Far from being one of the richest countries they don’t embrace the tourism that it could have, even buses going to the next countries! Not many countries I’m keen on getting out quickly!

All the people in the hostel I stayed in, all complained about the transport. And the taxi app is bad, I ordered a taxi and it turned up asking if I really wanted to go to South Africa!?!?!

hmmm. Brunei really need a good public transport system. The sad thing is that Brunei could've easily developed itself to a Singapore level of tourism. Everybody says Brunei is a rich country but when you see the city, it is so depressing. They lack of everything.

I really didn’t understand how Brunei works. Even the driver app was appalling :/ It still could be the new Singapore?

@@olderbackpacker every house has 3-4 cars there . its not economical for any driver app in the long run .As you don't get enough people during working hours. i lived there for 4 years . its a country where you need your own car . They make a lot of money from oil and are not interested in developing the tourism.

Mad dogs and Englishmen out walking in the midday sun, while the Bruneians travel in air-conditioned cars.

Not exactly a rich public transport system in Brunei is there! And what there is, it's worn out and old fashioned, with no nod to making it easy to work out when or where buses go to.
