@@zacharygardner4476 I'm no expert on this topic but honestly I sat and watched a good handful of these videos and just went to making.. started with maple, simple crankbait with whatever parts and tools I had laying around. Just finished up my second, a swim bait of a Mahi Mahi. Used a scrap piece of pine on that, grain is hard to carve and get a solid finish. It has hard and soft spots so wouldn't recommend. Also have a cheap airbrush from harbor freight with works wonders.. that and an artist fiance to help ;) Need to get my hands on some bass or balsa next.
not gone lie he got me making my own baits as well. i just clea coated 5 musky baits. paint job looks like a child did it but its the action im excited for.

I'm telling you bro a baby catfish, any major species around you, will work amazing I think I've made brown bullheads, yellow bullheads, channels, and blues that are 5-10" and have caught fish on all, you NEED to make one.

Nate you forgot the fun facts on the whopper plopper. LoL
Trout are VERY SKITTISH especially in that clear low water you were fishing. My advise would be put smaller hooks on that bait, 4 lb. test line & keep low when fishing. Wear colors that blend in with your surroundings, like green, it would be better if the water was a little muddy. You need to make a minnow lure for trout, like a Run Stripper, Needle Stick or pencil popper. Something small & streamlined would be best for those small trout. If you want to GO KRAZY TRY TO MAKE A BIG FAT GRUB WORM, THOSE FAT WHITE ONES YOU FIND IN STUMPS OR DEEP UNDERGROUND IN YOUR YARD. HEY IF YOU WANT TO CATCH A GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG MAKE A STRAWBERRY LURE, LMAO. HE'S A YOUNG DOG IT LOOKS LIKE ?

You have been asking about what to make. Build my fantasy lure. We fish buzz baits for bass. And on my home lake the trick is to fish them at the right speed (normally slow enough) to make the right sound. Build a little larger Whopper popper with double blades. It would be a killer bait. Make sure it floats on its own when static like your tiny one.

Please try to make the smallest 3 piece segmented minnow lure you can. I’ve caught a lot of big trout on very small segmented minnow lures. Rapala knows what they’re doing 👍

You should invest in some wire bending pliers, such as triple prong and bird beak pliers. Will make your life a lot easier and your work looking professional.

Rob Graham with ultra-light spinning gear and small line. I think he showed some 6# line. And I expected 4. Only thing if a big fish bites you might have a hard time getting her to give your bait back.
I thought like you that it was a catch with a quick release. But he has higher standards for his own reasons. He also is the talented one to make these beautiful baits
@@loboel264mag7 yeah i've been following him for a long time, now and it's normally that if it's not fully in his hand then it's not a catch. But i mean he got her to the bank and the like that's a catch.
His baits are beautiful, I wish I could afford some of them, though he's got another vid which proves in his own words 'fancy looking baits, catch more fishermen then fish' because the bait's made on the river edge and catches as many fish hehe..
What i really love is he shares his methods of making and his reasoning etc.. you could very much learn to make baits from watching all of his vids because he's explained just about everything in them :D

I just came across your vids and have been bingeing on them. As a woodworker and a fisherman they are practically tailor-made for me. You do really great work on both counts!! The lures are little works of art and speak for themselves but your videos are also really well done. Your stream-of-consciousness narrative is well-paced, upbeat and interesting which is too often not the case in TH-cam videos. I think I may take a shot at making a couple myself...lures not videos, as I imagine it must be very satisfying catching fish on lures you made yourself. On the other hand, it must really suck when you lose one. Anyway, thank you for the informative entertainment and the inspiration.

I've caught trout on the full size ploppers. Really fun in heavy current where you can hold it on one place and the propeller still spins

I would airbrush a bit over the edge of the foil when it's glued. Black at the top and white on the belly. Just to smooth of the edge of the foil.
