We actually shot that scene twice! They felt that Beverly D'Angelo 's performance was too stiff . . .
I was fortunate to be the set decorator for HIFI
@@larrylundy5707 amazing job with the record store
Sandro . . Thnx. We built it on a stage which we matched to the exterior. Same thing with Cusack's apt.
did you have input on what records and posters decorated cusacks apartment, or was that someone else’s job?
@@tylrr2476 good question. It was a mixed bag. The writers and Cusack had some faves, I wanted a Sun Ra poster. Everything needed clearance.
At one time ----------well, by 1995---------I had 887 albums & 1377 45's ! OMFG, was i proud of MY collection !! ---------88% of it was sold to a local collector , Jeff Rowe of " Rowe's Rare Records ", in San Jose CA. For it I got $1500 cash. Did I feel like Judas ??? Ya gawd damn right I did ! And I deserved it. But when I moved here to LA, I knew I could never keep it all here, so sadly, I became Judas . it still hurts 29 years later. And it should. ------MJL, 77 y/o
Man these were the days when there was no cell phones and people seemed more real. I had a great record collection. Some from my mom, my gramps, a couple who were in their 90's and then my own personal collection. Lot's of big band old school mixed with Neil Diamond, orginal beatles, Mightly Lemon Drops, Donavan. All gone now after my families house burned down a few years ago. It's such a shame. I wish I had at least sold them or given them away so they could live on.
Damn, so sorry bro.
🙏@@tiago2189
I hope you got to listen to a lot of the ones you inherited before the fire.
I feel your pain, my dude.
All that polyvinyl chloride burning is such a sad waste, and the house too of course.
My older sister was the manager of a large record store in the 1970s and 80s in Downtown Vancouver and I have lived this movie, I have all the autographed LPs to Prove it including an autographed copy of Zenyatta Mondatta by the Police
I’m from Vancouver, just out of curiosity do you remember the name of the store?
I make it a point to watch this movie every 2 yrs. or so. I like to savor it. I have also made the pilgrimage to the store.
What location? The store was fictional.
@@larrylundy5707 The record store. The outside is real.
I watch it at least once a year.
I like that the album in the middle hung on the wall is the Thirteenth floor elevators. They are considered the first psychedelic band and they are from texas. I am from texas and run into that rare record from time to time. Depending on condition a first pressing can start up to 500 - 1000. And its a dope record. Whoever picked that knows their stuff, its a holy grail for collectors
The store never existed. What do you visit, the store front on Milwaukee and Honore? That was used as our exterior. We built the shop on a stage at Chicago Studio City
@@larrylundy5707 wow are you really that stupid? I never said anything about this being a real store. I was giving props to whoever idea it was to include that album because it is a holy grail record and that they did their research. You are obviously illiterate or someone that's itching to start an argument on youtube because you have no life. 🙄🙄🙄
@@larrylundy5707 where did I ever say it was a real store? Or that I visited it? You are obviously illiterate. All I said I was giving props to whoever chose that record that they know their rare records that are worth a lot. I take it reading isn't your strongest attribute?
I was an extra in this movie in a scene at wicker park that was also deleted. They only show it for a split second
I've dreamt so many times of the scene with Beverly D'Angelo with me being Cusack only I take every record she is offering 😂
The way he takes his hands off the collection once he realizes not everything is as it seems... it's like his moral code won't let him take advantage of another collector's collection
Awesome...thank you for sharing
Beverly D'Angelo is an absolute ROCKET! Lisa Bonet is tremendous but if anything she might be too cool. Joan's character of all of them was the one I liked the most.
2:05 Aphex Twin - Windowlicker reference, most likely just arrived the week of filming that scene.
These are great. Can we get a directors cut. Please.
Wow, another fantastic behind the scenes commentary! Hopefully you still don’t mind uploading the entire photo gallery from Nacho Libre, too! 😁
It's Iben Hjejle BTW . . .thnx
I liked these. And i love this movie. Its more inpiration for me to start a record collection. I plan to get a turntable for christmas. I hope i can cinvince my nom to let me get it sooner if i have the cash for it
Classic scene with D'Angelo, and classic that she's hitting on him, but he's got a woody for the records and not her.
Why couldn't he have two woodies?
Which is crazy. She's gorgeous in this.
Great to see a Beverly D’Angelo in this. Pity it was cut.
Hopefully this film/book's obsession with Top 5 lists is intended to illustrate that these lists are arbitrary, because it can change in the blink of an eye, too Damn hard to make (especially honestly), and our memory is never on our side when answering these questions. If someone asked me my list perhaps at a certain time period, like middle school, first two years of high school, last two years of high school, and so on. Making a new list every 2-3 years. That, I could do more easily. Alright, my top five during my most formative years, all 4 years of high school. 1:AFI-"Shut your mouth and open your eyes", 2:Thrice-"The Illusion of safety", 3:Bad Religion-"The process of belief", 4:Streetlight Manifesto-"Everything went numb", and 5:Alkaline Trio-"Goddamnit"!
awesome taste! You like Brand New? I'd need one of their albums on my list. And of course Rumors by Fleetwood Mac
❤❤ John Paul Cusack ❤❤. Is Mine 🎉🎉. Kellene Erin Hubbard 🎉🎉. We met in Dallas Texas . And Now John is Mine ❤🎉😅
It's hottest Beverly D'Angelo scene I have ever seen.
Sonic Death Monkey
Am I living in an alternate universe? I thought the record collection scene was in the movie
Nope. Cut twice. It's available as an extra on some releases.
@@larrylundy5707 man I must have just watched it a bunch then lol
It's a fun scene. But it was cut because this is a take off on one of the oldest jokes on the internet. Usually it is a Corvette for $50.
It doesmt make sense any collector would of scooped them up
2:32 what the hell just happened here
TEN CENTS! 😂
Aphex Twin is overrated.
Oh ffs who cares...
saw1 maybe, but overall as an artist i disagree
Aphex is a mix bag for me - I need them in small doses.
