  • Episode 178. Yes, this is MGP. However, I believe it is a well done Rye. Young, but good pepper, sweetness and an interesting citrus or herbal note. I would watch the price as it tends to be priced higher, like a premium bottle. Have you tried James E. Pepper? What do you think? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

    I really appreciate these reviews where you compare two similar drams!

    The Brown sugars and clove sounds interesting as does the cherry and cola notes. Excellent breakdown my friend. I'm going with corn over Barley, or a little of both.

      There certainly could be a little corn in their. Just thought they might be using malted barley to open up the mash. I liked this one.

    I just opened my bottle of 1776 last night. Mine said aged at least 3 years on the back of the bottle. I have no issue with sourced whisky. I do like that their transparent about it. I found it a bit more in your face than lot 40 but an enjoyable rye for sure. Goes for 53 buck at the lcbo that includes taxes. Worth it in my opinion as long as you like rye

      Interesting that your bottle says 3 and mine says at least 2 years. Still, I would agree this is a good rye for the price and a little more punchy than Lot 40. Cheers!

    I’ve been eyeing this rye for a while, 53 bucks here in Ontario so not too bad. Thanks for the review!

      It is still young, and has some of those grain/grass notes. Still, I like how those work with the pepper and a little red fruit. If you go for it, let me know what you think.

    I have never seen this one on local shelves... I would probably buy it just to satisfy my curiosity.

      I do not think it would blow you away, but it is a tasty young Rye.

    I recently bought the barrel proof. I got it for an absolute bargain £31 ($50 Canadian). Mine came with a green wax seal but the cork broke when I opened it.

      That is a steal, I hope you enjoyed it when you finally got in (I hate broken corks, but that is why I keep a bag of old tops!)

    Another excellent set of tasting and nosing notes Jon, I opened a bottle of Centennial- Canadian 10 year old Rye which is $23.99 to drink along with you. It is only 40% so I am having it straight and I have a glass of water as accompaniment, on the nose it's brown sugar and oak taste is oak and pepper and the drink of water helps to cool the finnish.

      Awesome. I found Centennial a little soft. Glad you picked out some pepper in there too. Cheers!

    Hi Jon, how are? Very timely review for me, thanks. Thought about this brand but rare reviews and feedback day by day cancelled purchase. I probably buy it, but not this time.

      I am doing well. Certainly a good decision to wait. I enjoy this, but it isn't worth chasing after. I hope you are doing well too.

    I like their bourbon ok, but the rye doesnt work for me, never tried cask strength though. I currently have a bourbon and rye somewhere deep in my cabinet

      What Rye do you enjoy? Do you like more grassy notes or more fruit and oak?

  • @WhiskyJason1
    @WhiskyJason1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    totally agree - too young and too expensive

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I think I like it a bit more than that and since I found it for nearly half the regular price, I can enjoy it!

    If it says "straight" rye whiskey and doesn't have an age statement, doesn't that mean it's at least 4 years old?

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that was my reaction. Except on the back it does say 2 or more years. Which negates the automatic 4 years from straight. Confusing.

    This is not my favorite at all.
    Too much eucalyptus flavor me.

      Certainly present as a flavor, but I still enjoy!
