  • Yes, I did ask Rachel for permission to make this video and thumbnail.
    I have been selling vintage patterns for over 10 years, and used my expertise to find cheap vintage patterns (and sometimes more modern ones) to help you recreate some of Rachel Maksy’s fake aethestics. All of the vintage patterns will be listed below if you want to go and find one for yourself.

    Short shorts in the 70s were referred to as "hot pants". In about 1975 my mother wore this to a New Years Eve party: black velvet hot pants, black panty hose and black lace up knee boots. On the top she paired it with a white silky blouse with big floppy ruffles AND a quilted blazer all in greens, red, gold and some big hoop gold earrings. She had a really good figure at the time and my father thought she was the hottest thing on 2 legs, and we have laughed so much in later decades about that outfit! Edited to add: I forgot to mention that with the exception of the boots and hose, she sewed it all herself.

    Just discovered you via a comment thread on a Rachel Maksy video referring to your video on the differences between the Butterick Walkaway Dress vintage versus Reproduction. After becoming absolutely indignant at the differences, I immediately subbed to your channel. And here we are, full circle with your video referring me back to Rachel, hahaha! I'm disappointed in TH-cam's algorithm not suggesting your channel to me in the first place; I love your snarky honesty. Anyway, I ordered the McCalls 7828 which I'll size up as needed. It reminds me of those old Cachet by Bari Protas jackets from the 80's which I've recently become slightly obsessed over. I love the whole 80's Victorian revival. Thank you for this suggestion!

    I swear that Butterick 6086 is the very pattern my mom used to make my costume for a musical in 7th grade. That would have been about … 1974? We made the dress in a dark blue small floral pattern, floor length. Pretty sure it was long sleeves. I was supposed to be a grandma in about 1850’s America, California Gold Rush era and location, more or less. Good times. :)

    The bakerycore outfit could also be made from a dress pattern, just use different fabrics for the top and skirt. It's a pretty standard dress design from the 80s. From the top of my head, McCall's 7376 would fit the bill nicely, just leave off the bottom ruffle. Add a leather belt for a rustic look. The outfit also looks a lot like a dirndl style prairie dress as well.

    Lol ok! I, no joke, was looking to see if i could find the patterns she used in two of her older videos. In the pinafores video she has a McCalls 9815 from... it might be the 1940's but id be surprised. It SCREAMS 50's. And in her Sewing Autumn Clothes video she has another McCalls pattern, this one is the McCalls 5534. Lol i love the timing of all of this!!
    EDIT: .... i need the McCalls shorts framed on my wall my god its art.
    EDIT2: THAT SUEDE JACKET IS BEAUTIFUL. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!

  • @Carmen-nq8ex

    Yet again you crack me up!! I do not own any vintage patterns, just reproductions (I'll go sit in the naughty corner!). But I only started sewing again after 20 years, I'll get there. You need a t-shirt that says 'vintage pattern tragic' or 'vintage pattern snob...reproductions need not apply!' You and Rachel need to swap patterns like you did with Jen!!!

    • @StephanieCanada
      @StephanieCanada  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much Carmen! And you certainly do NOT need to sit in the naughty corner! Use whatever patterns you feel comfortable with. I MIGHT be working on some merch for later this year... but vintage "reproductions" need not apply MIGHT need to be something as well. Ans I would love to do a "Secret Sewing" with Rachel, but she is much busier than I am.

      Hi Krista! Rachel's go to pattern is a VERY expensive (I have only ever seen it go for $75 or more) Gunne Sax pattern Simplicity 9008 that is quite rare. I think the key is to look for an 8 gore skirt that has a VERY full sweep. Always ask the seller for the back photo (if one isn't provided) so you can figure out if the sweep is full enough.
