Thank you for this excellent review Hans. I'm considering to buy this EVO to replace my Meridian 500 and Meridian 263 DS DAC and Audiolab 8000 series amps. I only hope that 'class D' and my Sonus Faber FM2's will be a good match...
Thanks for the review. Still stop by to watch these high quality reviews of yours even if I'm not in the marked for anything new. But that is your fault for winning me over on the NAD M33 last year (I've been enjoying every day since). Merry Christmas Hans ☃️
I have watched this video a few timesnow - an excellent review of a product that makes a lot of sense, and which is a candidate for a shuffle of my gear. I will move my dac, streamer and all-analog amp from the living room to my home office and listening room and replace them with a modern amp that will be easier for my wife to operate. The hdmi will be convenient when using the tv. However, I am a little smitten by a similar product from Lyngdorf.
I have one - and it is superb - seamless with Deezer Hi-Fi - bang it into some decent floors or stand speakers - Monitor Audio work well - even the bronze - patch a sub or two - doesnt need a big one - and you are home and dry for respectable money - play with cables for some Audiophile addictiveness - Kef Reference is my next upgrade - and it has pre-outs so you could technically go all power crazy - I might do that - oh and addendum the screen works a treat - doesnt need a touch screen and the remote is reasonable should you find yourself needing it if you haven't sourced a dedicated iPad/tablet - which you should - my only gripe would be XLR in but no XLR out as per Cambridge Edge.
Hello Hans, as usual a very complete review. I have a NAD M33 and I love it. How does the EVO compares with the NAD. You had given an excellent review for the NAD. I would appreciate your comments. Congratulations for your successful surgery! Marcelo, from Houston, US.
Thank you Hans. Your description of the NAD M33 was very helpful and one of the reasons I bought it. One additional comment on that one: With time its sound becomes even better, more meat in the middle range, without losing any of detail. Class D amplification is evolving very fast.
Wow. What an amazing overview. The highlighted logos in the rear with a quick summary of each is great Thank you. I hope you can help me with my search...I am after something exactly like this with a colour screen like the Evo 150. I want to simplify the setup at home and I have a pair of krell amplifiers for a stereo and sub setup. I am after a unit like this that has Chromecast built in and also trigger out to switch the krells on. Are you able to tell me if this unit would work ok with the krell amplifiers as a preamp? I am after a nice simple solution for the living room as the old Denon is not up to the task and also all the comolexity and size is not needed. The wife likes to just say what to play and let the unit switch on and the krells to trigger on as well. I'm also interested in mainly the tidal and file library ability. I narrowed it down to the following and none seem to do the job - Aurelic altair g1 (no Chromecast so it won't turn on automatically) Naim Atom - great (no trigger out can't turn the Amps on) Cambridge Audio cxn V2 (is a new unit coming soon?)- XLR out was winner for me (no trigger out to Amps) I am at a loss and hoping you could steer me in the right direction. I'm very surprised that such a device is so hard to find. Thank you for your time
As always, nice review Hans! I'm more of a separates and tube gear type, but you make the EVO 150 sound enticing. Maybe one day I will try a class D type amp again. ;) I hope you're doing well with your health and in all other aspects!
Good to have you back Hans! Great review! Im looking for a streamer now and this unit might just be the right fit for my system. Still trying to find one without amplification if you know of any you might suggest I would greatly appreciate it.
On my den main system I have the Bluesound Vault 2i and Node connected to my Parasound. In my living room I was thinking about either the NAD C658 or the NAD M10. I assume I better off staying with NAD streaming family or would this Cambridge work?
I was considering buying the Cambridge Evo 150, but after reviewing it in a hifi shop I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of definition in the bass. It's still a looker however.
As always a great review. I have heard that the phono(vinyl) input board is less than ideal. Im thinking fully updated LP12 level and up here. Would you say this is a real world concern ?? Thank you.
In re to the Evo/CXN, I'm not sure the best way to stream music files/downloads residing on my MacBook Pro. In terms of sound quality and StreamMagic efficiency, does it make a difference whether I use a NAS or connect an external hard drive via USB directly to the CXN? I currently don't have/need a NAS. Any insight you have would be much appreciated. I'm not using Roon or any other third party applications -- I have a small collection (30 GB) of lossless files and lossy SoundCloud downloads that I wish to stream. I watched your DAS vs NAS video, and my intuition tells me that DAS makes more sense for my purposes. If I take the DAS route, can I simply transfer my music files onto a SSD, or does the DAS also need to run specific software? Thanks in advance, Andre aka The Audio Caveman
Would you say Cambridge Audio's StreamMagic app is on a par or nearly so of Bluesound's app for ease of control? Was the time between choosing tracks and their starting to play on say Tidal relatively quick? Thank you.
Best reviewer on TH-cam. Thank you Hans.
Wow, thanks!
Good to see you back & delivering such a comprehensive review. We've missed you
Thank you kindly!
Excellent Hans ! Hope you and your family are well. Thanks for the review
We're fine. I wish you the same.
Great review Hans.Good to see you back.
Great to be 100% back
looks like a great one box solution and with a phono input to complete its flexibility. I want one.
👍🏼
It really is a looker
Brilliantly explained almost everything and in simple words. Thumbs up!
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you Hans, I was on the Yamaha A-S1200 and Argon Solo trail but maybe the Evo 150 is the right choice. Decisions decisions 😉
Well, you now have the facts. You have to decide. You can do it, do it you can Young Davy😄
Great review !!!
Thanks!
Once again, great presentation.
I'm going to listen to The Nits now, thanks to you :-)
Enjoy!

Both would work although I would prefer the NAD
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel which NAD C658 or NAD M10?
M10 if you can afford it
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thanks, I just bought the M10. I love your videos. No one else does what you do!
Interesting
it is
I was considering buying the Cambridge Evo 150, but after reviewing it in a hifi shop I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of definition in the bass. It's still a looker however.
Then you should not buy it
did they cable it with the right speakers?
Hans is the airplay input automatically selected when streaming from An airplay device?
Yes
Mr. Beekhuyzen, what happened with the sound - IF; you play Apple Music 24/48 via Apple TV, via TV set onto such device?
It plays the music over the tv speakers.
Nice review.
I am thinking over buying the evo150, do you know how it performs with some Klipsch reference series speakers?
I have no hands on experience with these loudspeakers so I can’t say.
Have you found better sound for vinyl by hooking up a separate phono preamp? Or is the built in phono amp decent enough?
I have not tried the phono amp but there always will be a phono amp that will sound better. But at what price.
As always a great review. I have heard that the phono(vinyl) input board is less than ideal. Im thinking fully updated LP12 level and up here. Would you say this is a real world concern ?? Thank you.
The LP 12 is more my setup 1 quality, depending on arm and cartridge somewhere halfway to almost top.

If I put a flashdrive in the rear usb port. Will I be able to play my files?
yes

you can use any hard disk or SSD, speed demands for audio are very low.

Bluesound is clearly superior

If you had the choose between this one or the Naim uniti atom wich one is the best?
That depends on many factors. Watch my reviews.

why the market has sooooo few of such device ?

Cambridge Audio does not specify that so I can’t say.

Hello everyone
Can I connect a reel to reel for recording?
No

Hi Hans, lovely review as usual. Would this player stream to wireless speakers. Kef LS50 wireless II for example?
I have no experience with the KEF's but I shouldn't know why not.
