Brawo.👏
I'm surprised by the negative tenor of the comments. On the contrary, I found this interpretation to reflect a fine balance between a passionate bravura and controlled delicacy. All in all, a masterful performance
I just noticed that he tried out for the Van Cliburn competition this year in the screening auditions, and he did not make it past the selection round to the 30 performers. But he is fourth place here.
somthing sad happened today, he bumped a note in the beginning by accident with his hand, and missed by a hair the arrival chord point notes in the end of runs in the coda, but amazing performance, very exciting 5 stars
Chopin once said Liszt was the best interpreter of his composition. This Yamamoto played it with incredible power and bravura, a tour de force performance. His bow before the audience was too meek compared with his artistry.
I really think this guy's a pianist after my own heart--doesn't have the best technique in the world (his is way better than mine, though) and he sometimes gets carried away with expression, sometimes at the expense of technique, always worrying more about the music than the fingers. That's me, at least.
Do they rate performers on their bodily movements and facial expressions in the competition? If they don't, there shouldn't be any reason why this guy was in fourth instead of the Korean entries.
the warsaw competition has a "winner's concert" after the competition wraps up. they get the top 3 or 4 prize winners and have a lame concert consisting of what they've already performed for the past two weeks.
I agree. Japanese piano teachers TEACH students to express their music with movement instead of through sounds, and also they force their interpretations onto students. Interpretation should come from inside, it should not be too artificial. Furthermore, they do not teach music history nor theory nor any cultural backgrounds. Really unfortunate.
i can hear his breathing every second, it's annoying. regardless, a powerful performance. I wish he would use a bit less motion, tho... it's unpleasant.
well said, i do understand why he made it past the first stage, i mean they're all good pianists in terms of right notes, but his expression probably cost him during the competition, well i dunno if they count that against u in competition...but yah i'm not impressed with this guy

This Scherzo no.3 is the best one I have ever heard.
I like this very much! He has real passion and dares to this in Chopin Competition! Great!!

he has amazing technique for such small hands. if you look closely he really has to stretch for those octave runs. absolutle brilliant.
brilliant
My FAVORITE interpretation. Generally, I like Li Yundi more, but this is by far the best interpretation I've ever seen.
god!!!
Wow

You never know where the new Rubinstein hides... ;)

nice clear sound which I liked, but the pounding foot was distracting. too bad.

dump
he messed up my favorite Chopin scherzo :( only Yundi plays it the way i would...

I have to admit I do not really like it... too restless, too many wrong notes, too fast for my taste...
even my friend can play better than this guy
