The Caps went from one of the oldest teams to being one of the youngest if Oshie goes on LTIR. With Kuzy going to the KHL they’re a few million under the salary cap too.
Even if PLD doesnt work out to his potential, hes still a better second line option than what they had last year. Kuznetsov fell off a cliff and fast. In terms of on ice, im happy either way with that one. Got rid of Kuemper in the process. Win win. Only thing that might bite them is the contract after Ovi retires.
I havent been so excited about a Caps trade since they got Caro Hagelin (a personal favorite of mine) when they picked up Chycrun. I wanted them to get him when he was being shopped by Arizona (RIP). And i hate to lose Jensen, but Chychurn was a significant upgrade and a player i also love a ton.

Sure, but they are better off for it.
Yeah they bolstered every single department with their offense, defense and goaltending just to help Ovi break the goal record. They clearly didn’t make these moves to be a more overall, better contending team for the playoffs 😅

What a moronic statement. Ovechkin is playing 2 more seasons. He's 41 goals away from the record. This year he had 31. All he needs to do is get back to back 21 goal seasons and he's there. He could sleepwalk to the record on the PP alone without help. These moves were about setting up Washington for a seamless transition from the Ovechkin era to the next generation.
PLD didnt suck because of lack of confidence. He sucked because he couldn't give a fuck to actually try.
the kings' system was a horrible fit for him. I bet you he hits 70-80 points easy next year.
Loool Dubois has NEVER had a 64 point season. He only hits 60 points in a BEST case. He is on the decline and lacks heart, compete, and a lot of other things.
It's not like they didn't have the same issue with Kuznetsov anyways.

Not many teams are guaranteed the playoffs. No one thought New Jersey would collapse last year. If the Caps are below the playoff line they can sell Chych and Magi and recoup some nice picks again.
