- What if you don't like the self propelled harvesters from all the existing brands? Just build your own one! That is what Dutch contractor Gebr. van Unen did. Harvesting chicory roots is a specialist job that requires a special harvester. Modifying a potato harvester wasn't sufficient so this machine was created over the course of 2020 together with 2 partners. The basis of the vehicle is a 2004 wheeled Ploeger AR-4B potato bunker harvester that has been completely rebuild. Only the Deutz engine, rear axle, bunker fill elevator and part of the chassis were retained. The rest has been build to the wish of this contractor. The machine has performed faultlessly during its first season despite lifting during some arduous conditions.
Leaf chicory is a two year crop. In the first year the chicory roots are grown on 50cm beds. These roots are placed in hydroponics culture and the crop is grown under dark conditions so it stays white/yellow. The endive crops are cut from the roots and sold as a very tasty vegetable. This is a specialist crop grown only in Holland, Belgium and France. It is exported world wide and a real delicacy. This contractor has made it its specialism to sow, cater and harvest this culture.

Yes these are sprayed against weeds and hoe'd.

@@svenassink4784 Ja, een bedrijf waar dat mooi is om te filmen met een interessante combinatie.
@@Agrifotodotnl ik heb zelf ook een TH-cam kanaal, (dit is een ander kanaal) en daar heb ik een interessante combinatie gefilmd/ mijn buurman en nu gebruik hij een andere trekker en is het nog mooier. Hij gebruikt een claas voormaaier met een schuitemaker opraapwagen en de trekker is verschillend maar meestal een claas 650 Arion
@@Agrifotodotnl is er ook een mogelijkheid om een foto/video doortestuuren want dan weet je waar het over gaat.

@@Agrifotodotnl hmmm that was interesting, I guess they were harvesting the plants, never seen that before! Do you know how they harvest the strawberries? Do they do it by hand or do they have machines for that too? We grow strawberries ourselves here in Sweden aswell as our neighbours, that's why I find it so interesting and especially the harvest as it requires a lot of manpower here.
@@oscarjohansson79 Afaik this is all done by hand. I don't think you can use machines as the fruit is so delicate?
