Fabulous. What a brilliant rhythm player Mr Petrucci is. The way he nestles those diads into a dense mix whilst giving them character is an art in itself.
This was a blast to learn, and I really liked the way John taught it at a grown-ups pace. Some lesson videos can be so freaking slow. That guitar/amp/mic/preamp signal chain sounds FANTASTIC...the intonation on that Majesty sounds piano level good. The intervals are spot on.
@@kennhern Are you new around here or something? Lol, sorry...not meaning to jump down your throat. I've been a huge DT and JP fan since the mid 90s. I've got a guitar signed by John, I've seen DT fourteen times live, I got a Majesty tattoo, and my whole guitar career has been shaped largely by this man. I don't have that precise intonation on any of my standard tuned instruments. It's close, but not as good as his. In a full mix it sounds lovely, but solo is when you can hear it the best. Cheers.
Yes right he explained it very well.. he says they wanted to make a normal human song among all the other long and instrumental songs! Cuz they are GODS😍! Cant wait to hear those epic long songs too!😍😍
I just love the fact that my favorite guitarist (who can play circles around pretty much everyone on the planet) can explain stuff in a way that I can actually understand it. 😜
Guitar playing is not a sport, although the kids and immature adults seem to talk about it as if it were. And it is impossible to say one guy can play “circles around” everyone else when there are players like Paul Gilbert, Guthrie Govan, Buckethead, John 5, Ron Thal (guy is insane), and many others out there.
John did not explain the end of the song, that solo takes variations of the main melody but modulating to other tonalities. They DO write music when they do. Spectacular
Definitely his signature amp, if you notice his other studio videos , amps and fractal fm3 set in the rack , no emulation sounds so punch and clearly like this
Best album DT ever made. The older they get the more refined their music gets, it’s just smart, clean, thoughtful, and the parts make sense. I think Mangini plays a huge role in that, his playing ability and music mind is unmatched by any drummer on the planet. Sorry not sorry
I could listen to JP talk about their writing process all day
SAME
Same
Yep
Ctrl+c - ctrl+v
You need a ten hours version.
Whoever set that guitar up deserves a medal. The intonation sounds perfect.
That would be Maddi Schieferstein!
@@coopercarter where can i hire this man
Exactly!!
You can see his tips here th-cam.com/video/HRd38tJ21ro/w-d-xo.html
the coolest dude of all time
"Proggy Chords" Those will be my final words when I die.
Mine would be "Mid Tempo"
Very Count of Tuscanyesque riff. That is a DT signature and yes, proggy chords sums it up nicely!
I've thought the same.

Very cool! That main theme is sticky. Definitely a grower. Can't wait to hear the rest of it! 🤘🎸🎸🎸
The riff that gets played over the second verse (Hiding, Never showing it’s face). Best part of the song.
Part Of Chord
Holy hell! That beard itself is gonna play his guitar one day very soon!
It's cut right after piezo switch ! :)
Holy hell?
This song gives me serious Systematic Chaos vibes, and that album is one of my favourites, so I absolutely love it!
John, this song is awesome!! Love the melodic choices.
Such awesome tone and outlook on prog melody. Great video. 👍
John has an amazing personality and is an amazing guitar player. DT FOREVER
The new album is 🔥🔥🔥
Love the cheeky Octavarium reference in Sleeping Giant
this is why DT IS a legendary band. The writing process is more than just a fancy riff solo etc. There is a music science here.
Unfortunately, then comes their singer and transfer all science and art into dull shit.
Awesome stuff! I hope there is more from different songs where he breaks sections down
This was a blast to learn, and I really liked the way John taught it at a grown-ups pace. Some lesson videos can be so freaking slow.

It has to be or otherwise he would not be in tune with their keyboard player

Awesome timbre, the quality of musical sound is really awesome!! great quality!!
That first variation riff at 8:16 is so f**king awesome. Would fit perfectly at the end of the Trial of Tears solo. Love how "DT" that sounds.
this man has skills, he should join in a band
He is in a grunge band.
His voice calms me down
DT are many bands within one, with many songs within one. Congrats! ;-)
Always nice to hear from John on these things.
when I grow up I would like to have your talent. I love John!
If this is the song that balances out the album, I can’t wait to hear the rest!
that melody gives me "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?" vibes 😂 love it
I want John Petrucci's beard, but on my head.
Amo esa guitarra.
The riff at 8:15 is so cool! But im glad they sticked with the one in the song cus it fits the heavy vibe of the song

El messi , maradona y pele de la guitarra ¡
Cambio totalmente el juego y el enfoque de lo quees un guitarrista de rock/metal
JP is just the best. What a cool painting too
The last album was OUTSTANDING because MM was pretty involved in it!!!
AMG Tv
JP seems really inspired again!!! The fire is back 🔥
It's a simple technique, but damn it sounds great! Jp always the best!
Best idea was writing this song. I just loved it!!!
💪🏻😎🎸
Please, tell me you guys recorded another video with John Petrucci, can't wait for more of this content.
Reminds me of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? theme, especially the outro theme.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge

That Beard Sweeps betters than me
bring more of this breakdown!
We need that painting as merchandise!!!
5:09 love that sound
I can swear my BOSS KATANA sounds like this.
I agree, you can get a feel to it in a practice setting. I’m happy with my jp6 and boss katana practice setup
Hope the honey burst I ordered looks and sounds this nice!
JP truly master!
He's looking at all of us.
This sounds awesome! Reminded me a lot of Danny Elfman's Batman Theme.
When will there be an 8 string dream theater song?
Hope on next song,, cant wait for it
In Awaken The Master he uses it
He seems not using his signature amp but it sounds like that. Which emulation sounds like his signature amp?
You can profile your exact amp with a Kemper.
@@modelcitizen1977 Have a good profile?

John P. with MM JP20th with gold shield on frets board
B to E (V to I) or F to E are Tritone subs
i noticed the painting, nice touch!
That painting by his side is sick.
God. He's amazing.
And hopefully a part 2 for the solo lesson?
3:17 "Dream Theater Queensrych-e thing" ? 3:22 "I don't believe in love" power chords !
Thanks for the tips
2:51 The monster is supposed to be invisible, yes ignore it. cool painting!
Um, how many gold or platinum cds since Awake?

What is that esoteric painting next to John?
Hold my beer.... I'm out of beer.... I'll just watch.
riff kinda reminds me of Opeth - Reverie / Harlequin Forest
Sounds good..
"You have a cool chord shape" No john this cool everything about song
Yeah, i realized that have some riffs, inspired by Queensryche, i must think that's song like 'Eyes Of A Stranger'.
John playing with new picks? Dont looks like the Jazz or Trinity picks. *sharp eye*
What's with the random out-of-place painting?
The best 👍
I find it very humorous that people think JP is a god because he knows harmonic theory and applies it to his writing.
Exelent
Yes John Queensryche is great.
02:45 Petrucci HUMOR!!
I'm waiting for that moment when that beard will replace as JP's sig guitar belt 🙏🏻🤣
John sits with his guitar properly.
Yes master
That beard needs it's own interview
I like your old school beard.
Can't decide if this sounds more DreamTheatery or Queensrychy, but it's definitely proggy.
"queensrychey dream theatery chords. proggy chords"
Gandalf dyed his beard and learned to play the electric guitar
When ZZ Top playing prog
wow
🤘🏼
kinda on the backs of angels part 2. cool.
grate
That guy on the painting isnt invisible monster, its groot
Yeah. How can it be an invisible monster if we can see it?
Learn from the "Visible Master"..🙂
Awesome lesson!
I’ve got a cover of the solo if anyone might want to check it out, I’d greatly appreciate any feedback!!
👍🎸🤘
Nothing about verse 2's riff :(
🥰😍🤩🥰🥰
Wow that beard is another level
Guitar Viking!
We wanted to write a Tool Song. Seeing how popular they are.
