I really liked The Motive and the Cue, beautiful love letter to live theatre, Mark Gatiss provides a true acting masterclass, and Johnny Flynn is wonderful. Also slight correction, Hamilton is only playing in Manchester until the 24th of February, we have Pretty Woman coming in after that from 27/2.

Actually, I have an idea for a recommendation list which you can make: "which are the best shows (according to you) that are currently running". I giving this idea because I'm pretty new to the West End theater, every time when I come to London I always have a hard time choosing among so many options. I know that you have reviewed most of the current shows, but a short list of the most recommended ones will be very helpful for people like me.
    Keep up the good work!

Thanks, enjoyed the preview. Suggestion: A little sign/label on the screen with name of each show that's currently being discussed would be useful, in case we missed it at the beginning of the section. Also, a list of all the shows to be discussed at the start of your talk would be good (i.e. a preview of the preview).

For new musicals transferring to the West End - Two Strangers Carry a Cake across New York. It was SO GOOD at the Kiln Theatre, and the set is such an interesting part of the show. Two person musical, super funny. Get excited!

yes yes yes, totally agree. saw it at the Kiln and it is one of the best theatre experiences I have had in a while. LOVED IT! Will be seeing it again on my birthday at the Criterion. Can't wait! :) (also it is selling out surprisingly quickly for months in advance so I do think this will be having a great west end run!)

Would love to see Hello Dolly and Starlight (as I've never seen either of these before) and wondering how I can sneak into A View From The Bridge in Bath! Hoping to book a cheapish seat for Merchant of Venice 1936 as it's been a tremendous touring production.

The bar for best new musical has been set quite low so far sadly, but there are quite a few new productions opening in the next few months, as well as a few playing now that aren't eligible yet due to still being in previews, so who knows. Musical revival is going to be a competitive category, with new productions of Merrily, The Wiz, Spamalot and Cabaret all in serious contention from the sound of it, as well as Gutenberg!

I already have tickets booked for Hadestown, I've been wanting to see it for years as a big Greek mythology nerd and so excited that it's finally coming, I'll be seeing it in March. Also immediately book for Next To Normal as soon as the run was announced last year because it was one of my favourite shows of 2023, and I'm so happy they've just announced the full Donmar cast is returning. Fingers crossed for a cast album. I'm seeing that one fairly soon after it opens in June. I have not booked Mean Girls yet, but I will be and I think I also may end up seeing Just For One Day with my mum, she went to LiveAid (as she is constantly fond of reminding us) so it feels like something she will want to see! I also definitely want to go to the UK tour of Come From Away as I found it fairly late on in its West End run and only got to see it once so super excited to have the chance to see it again.
I'm also finally seeing Everybody's Talking About Jamie when it comes to London next month and I'm very excited for that, I really enjoyed the film. I'm also massively excited for the West End transfer of Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York) because I just saw it at the Kiln this week and it was so fantastic, I cannot wait to see it again. So much exciting stuff coming to the West End this year, I can't wait.

Of these, I've booked for Hadestown, Mean Girls, Next To Normal, Come From Away, Hello Dolly! and Dear Evan Hansen (for 2025 in Manchester). Others I've got booked are Plaza Suite, Songs For A New World, Pacific Overtures, Before After, Operation Mincemeat, Player Kings, Life of Pi and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), which honestly I'm surprised you didn't mention in this video since it's been such a roaring success at the Kiln.

As much as I HATE to spring it up, but since WE and receiving Regional theatre’s have implemented the restrictive (and ableist) new Access ticket guidelines, introduced by the “Access Card” scheme, which to obtain such, means one is required to go through a deranged, lengthy and mentally provoking/triggering procedure to obtain essential companion tickets, just like that of the DWP’s “Fit to Work” assessments, I unfortunately won’t be seeing ANY of the shows mentioned 😢🥺😤😡😭!
I wanted to see Sunset Blvd, and was looking forward to seeing the Live Aid Musical at the Old Vic, Hello Dolly at the Palladium and CFA on tour, but regrettably, won’t be able to, unless some reasonable adjustments can be made, but from experience through Delfont Macintosh theatres, when trying to get to see Oklahoma, things are looking pretty thin! It’s a good job ABBA Voyage doesn’t do it, and continues to champion neurodiversity, but this is bang out order don’t you think? As Alanis might relate “It’s like rain 🌧️ on your wedding 💒 day…”.

Correction, remembered fondly all over the western world (can't speak for the other half) Now, that is, if you speak with people born before 1976 (?) so that they have in memory. In sweden, we only had 2 tv-channels at the time, this was shown and therefore almost everyone, who was allowed to stay up, got to see it. 400 milllion viewers all over the world...Not really a local interest..;)

Great to hear about so many shows coming to the UK. You didn't mention Shucked. There's no theatre booked but it will be coming to London. I also heard that Take Me Out is on the way as well as Some Like It Hot. Maybe those are just wishful thinking? Burlesque announced that it will open in London at the end of 2024. For me, I need to see Starlight Express but the seats are very expensive when your need is to be in the middle of the action as in Bochum. Opening Night is also on my list of must see. For now I'll just have be content to see the 10 shows on my radar for next week.

MJ is emotionally and physically draining. you have to look at the sexy chemistry between MJ & Rachel in the scenes on the side together majority of the musical. MJ the Musical recoup on Broadway asap. How do you think people will embrace MJ the musical in the Uk or countries around there?. i saw aramie payton as Mj and Bailey McCall as Rachel on Broadway.
