I'd be honest, I didn't even play HI3. I just found this song because I like to hear any good game OST on youtube and this what was recommended for me. Hesitated at first, now this is the first game OST that growing on me even when I'm not playing them. The emotion and stories are well presented in this song, and it's not a joke to shed a tear after listening for a while. The music is top-notch, it has the progression across all verse and interlude. The overtone part was perfect. The singer is just flawless. Angelic. Can't say anything much more than that. As an audiophile that loves to play games myself, it always a treat to find some games that put so much effort into their opening BGM, character OST, Arc OST. If you love emotional stuff, you won't regret it. Some aspects of the game might be annoying (like the gacha system, but the deep story is over the top and absolutely worth it. Never shed tears over a game before, but Honkai gets me often..
I am seeing some misunderstanding in the comments so I would like to clarify :) Zhou Shen's voice is natural. He does not fake a 'female voice'. The reason why his voice may sound 'feminine' to some people is because it did not deepen too much during puberty. Actually, the more you listen to his songs, the more you will realize his voice is more akin to that of a child than that of a woman. And just as I said in the previous paragraph, it is not as if his voice didn't deepen at all during puberty. It did, but to a much lesser extent compared to other males. So obviously, he still has the timbre of a (teenage) male, which is especially easy to observe when he sings deeper notes. He sounds like a shonen protag in the lower end of his vocal range, while sounding like a siren in the higher end. This versatility results in a running joke among some fans that whoever hires him to sing theme songs saves lots of money as he completes both the male and female parts XD
Zhou Shen's strength isn't that he is able to sing in really high registers like a Siren. His strength is that he is able to sing in such high registers without piercing everyone's eardrums while doing so. His signature Vocal timbre is a soft delicate little brightness that extrudes just the right amount of warmth to evoke agape. It is how Zhou Shen became the Uncontested Reigning OST King of China and how he sang in so many different genres & languages so well. His Child-like demeanour also completes him.

In fact, Zhou Shen’s voice in higher register is falsetto, very intangible and beautiful falsetto, like Dimash or Vitas. As he‘s also a trained tenor, he‘s able to switch voices as he want. That’s why composers may like him more than a simple female singers. If u want to see more of Zhou Shen’s performance, I highly recommend “Yelang Disco” or “Dalabengba”.
My voice used to be like this back in high school before my instructor made me sing tenor 2 and dropped my voice. In terms of my head voice and my tenor 1 capabilities. I always kinda resented my instructor for forcing my voice to drop hearing this make some miss my higher registry.

Zhou Shen's voice is countertenor which is a popular voice in the west but not in the east. His comfortable range voice is from C3 - A5, but his range voice is from C3-C6. He studied Belcanto in Ukraine so he can sing many languages, many types in singing. I think it's normal that the male has this special voice as long as they sing with their whole heart, put emotions into the voice, make people feel the meaning of music 🎶

2 weeks late! But I hope you try out this game! This game has an absolutely beautiful story, although you might find it boring at chapter 1-2, but chapter 3-4 is where everything goes down. The Gacha, well I'm not sure about it being generous, well it's more generous than Genshin Impact that's for sure. But hey! Zhou Shen is phenomenal. I always need tissues by me when I listen to his songs. He is a power house and is all I listen to now. His voice never fails to swoop me off my feet and decorate my day with rainbow and night with stars. He has come a long ways. It was not an easy journey for him because his voice is is atypical for a male but he sings better than most female singers. His voice is therapeutic - it calms me down when things go sideways for me.

I am seeing some misunderstanding in the comments so I would like to clarify :)
Zhou Shen's voice is natural. He does not fake a 'female voice'. The reason why his voice may sound 'feminine' to some people is because it did not deepen too much during puberty. Actually, the more you listen to his songs, the more you will realize his voice is more akin to that of a child than that of a woman.
And just as I said in the previous paragraph, it is not as if his voice didn't deepen at all during puberty. It did, but to a much lesser extent compared to other males. So obviously, he still has the timbre of a (teenage) male, which is especially easy to observe when he sings deeper notes. He sounds like a shonen protag in the lower end of his vocal range, while sounding like a siren in the higher end.
This versatility results in a running joke among some fans that whoever hires him to sing theme songs saves lots of money as he completes both the male and female parts XD

Zhou Shen's strength isn't that he is able to sing in really high registers like a Siren.
His strength is that he is able to sing in such high registers without piercing everyone's eardrums while doing so.
His signature Vocal timbre is a soft delicate little brightness that extrudes just the right amount of warmth to evoke agape.
It is how Zhou Shen became the Uncontested Reigning OST King of China and how he sang in so many different genres & languages so well.
His Child-like demeanour also completes him.

He studied Belcanto in Ukraine so he can sing many languages, many types in singing. I think it's normal that the male has this special voice as long as they sing with their whole heart, put emotions into the voice, make people feel the meaning of music 🎶

Zhou Shen is phenomenal. I always need tissues by me when I listen to his songs. He is a power house and is all I listen to now. His voice never fails to swoop me off my feet and decorate my day with rainbow and night with stars. He has come a long ways. It was not an easy journey for him because his voice is is atypical for a male but he sings better than most female singers. His voice is therapeutic - it calms me down when things go sideways for me.
