I use Mac OS, Windows 11 and Linux. The only thing I can say that Mac OS needs to improve is the file manager. The only thing Linux needs to improve its more newer hardware compatibility. The only thing Windows needs to improve is the entire operating system.
I have to disagree here. There were many little annoyances with mac when coming from windows. The one that annoys me the most is the drag and drop delay when using double tap to drag stuff. And in general the whole mouse/cursor behavior on mac feels worse than on windows to me.
If you use a lts distro on new devices it often causes problems. I encountered hardware and driver issues on ubuntu but i have switched to fedora and it runs almost perfect.
I'm so glad to find someone saying what I think - I've used all 3 (mostly Windows until the last year when I switched to Mac) I really miss Windows File Manager. But Windows has really gone down hill in recent years and I wish I'd see more Windows users standing up about it. I hate to admit it as it goes against everything I stood up for, for a long time, but since moving to an Apple Silicon Macbook, I've had about 4 incidents in a year where I had to reboot, versus more than once a day on Windows. I've had no driver issues, no random hardware failing to work after an update, the grass really was greener after switching. Windows, you really need to step your game up, I miss what you could have been today.
As someone who also uses all three, I just about agree. There's a couple more things I find annoying on mac, but it doesn't make me want to constantly bash my head in like my windows machine does 25% of the time, so yah.
it's all a matter of habit, only. I worked for 15 years on Windows and Android. 3 years ago I replaced everything with the Apple ecosystem. Mac Studio, studio display, iPad, iPhone, watch. At first I wanted to cry - but the deeper I went, the better it was. These systems are simply different, in Apple there are things that are not in Windows and vice versa. Now when I sit down to Windows or take Android in my hand I feel as lost as when I first sat down to Mac
Yes, that’s the that’s part of the beauty isn’t it? That it’s all different😊 At the moment though I’m very happy with my hybrid ecosystem. Mac and iPad, but still running android. I just can’t get over how slow iOS feels to nevigate😅 However I wouldn’t mind trying an iPhone in the future… maybe next phone 🤷♂️ Thanks for watching and commenting 😎
I also moved to a Mac recently after a lifetime with Windows and found your video very interesting. I also have had a hard time getting used to Finder after Windows Explorer but find the sound quality of the speakers and trackpad much better than any of my PC laptops. The best thing is when you close the lid on the Mac and open it the next day, you battery is not draining down. Windows on ARM is looking promising but they would have to improve their GPU performance to catch up with Apple for creative users.
This is EXACTLY how I feel about Windows ARM. It's promising, but really hasn't proven itself yet. And my fear is that Microsoft won't put enough guidelines into place so that developers can provide a consistent experience. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts🍻
@@Tr4ns1st0r I reckon that. But the laptop is turned off and won't drain battery ( therefore no complains ) but has everything as I left it the day before. Works for me at least.
There are many videos that talk about switching from Windows to MacOS. It's always interesting to see how everyone does it differently. I think for work, personal stuff, creative people (musicians, video producers, graphic artists, programmers...) a Mac with Apple Silicon is by far the better choice. Gamers: should (still) stick with Windows or buy a console.
A few things: The extra keys are more or less the same as you get on a windows keyboard, you have option rather than alt, you have command rather than the windows key. Also remember that these keys go back to the beginning of the Mac’s history and pre-dates the windows keyboard. Face ID is not simply a camera looking at a two dimensional object (as is the case with Windows Hello) and using software to map facial features, these systems can be spoofed with a small amount of effort. Apple decided when they created Face ID that they wanted something that wouldn’t be spoofed by two dimensional objects (like a photo). Apple wanted a system that looked at real three-dimensional objects so they’ve added in an array of sensors (Dot projector, flood illuminator, infrared camera, and front facing camera) it’s these additional sensors that currently do not fit within the depth of the MacBook display housing. Apple has gone to some length to publish white papers on the security of its biometric systems particularly FaceID, I would recommend reading them if your at all interested. Apple is also all-in on touch ID, which is its original biometric standard. Apple won’t compromise on the security of its biometrics, so until Apple can solve for the Face ID implementation touch ID will have to do. As for dragging objects into folders it’s not required that you drag it over the folder, you only need to do this if you are not already in the desired folder. What Apps or services appear in the menu bar is up to you, you can disable all of the included Apple services, along with any third party App that also has a menu bar item. Disabling any of the menu bar items you don’t need will help you to clean up the interface and allow you to focus on just the items you’re concerned with. Any widgets within notifications center (clicking the date and time in the upper right) can be removed and notifications can be disabled as well. The clipboard history feature in windows was only added recently as part of Windows 10. However, the idea of a clipboard manager goes back to the early 1990’s both platforms resisted adding this as a native tool for decades. A major role of the development community is to built tools that fill the void that the OS does not provide for. This makes It a difficult call for any OS platform to cannibalize ideas from its third-party development community. To do so will often result in the alienation of its developers, and hurts the very developer communities that Microsoft, Apple, and others spend so much time, money, and effort building up.
Hey mate! Thanks for watching and taking your time with this comment❤️🍻 And just to keep the discussion going a bit: 1. Yeah, I know it's similar with the modifier keys. It was just in the beginning I felt like a few Apple "shortcuts" weren't as intuitive as ctrl or ctrl+alt, so I simply question, the need for an "extra" button... Just like I question why the Windows key exists😅 Like seriously who uses it except for split screen and clipboard🤦♂️ 2. I'm sorry if I seem argumentative, but the new iPad Pro is 5.1mm & the Mac lid is roughly 4mm, if not a bit more, so it's getting close... + the MSI actually has ir cameras & sensors to aid against simple spoofs like photos. W-Hello has gotten a lot safer lately. Maybe not FaceID safe, but safe enough for me to trust it on the MSI. So still 0 excuses for Apple IMO😉 Also, I have noticed that many have misunderstood my point here. I have 0 complaints about touch ID, or the lack of FaceID, my complaint was the notch. I don't like designs that don't fill a function🙃 Anyway. Thanks for sticking around🍻
@@xgui4-studios only a camera with IR has been required. Microsoft’s of late is increasing the requirements to improve security, but yeah Windows hello doesn’t require much.
I hate the window management of mac but it being a UNIX based OS and apple silicon performance and battery efficiency overshadows that weakness for me as a programmer.
@@jackdehosson Window management is now in line with Windows or should be with the latest OS. Really like how you can have workspaces on Mac but infuriates me you cannot natively on Windows unless I am missing something.
I absolutely agree with this also. Windows does a better and more seamless job of managing multiple windows / snapping windows together etc but Mac can do it too (just not as slick).
I was really enjoying the video, and then I realized that you only had 254 subscribers! You deserve more! I thought you would have at least 500k plus! Keep up the good work!
Watching this on my M3 MBPro Max :) I've used so many different laptops in different work and personal contexts and find MacOS a gap filler in usage terms - great video anyway - criminal you don't have more subs man.
I'm having "another go" at getting into Mac (he says, typing this on a Pixelbook). I'd say neither platform is perfect (and I spend quite a bit of time in Linux as well), but I feel like it's harder to justify sticking with Windows when something simple like a mouse starts misbehaving - and it's not just one machine either. I liked your take on the problem... Sub'd because it'd be rude not to with videos like this :)
I’m a relatively advanced computer user myself, however I am also limited by screen readers. Until more recently, VoiceOver on the Mac sadly had some major issues that meant it was not really a viable main system. However, this year I purchased the MacBook Air, M3. And it is now my primary machine. Absolutely mind blowing how fast this machine is, on top of that, I’m running Windows 11 arm in a virtual machine on the Mac. The windows honestly feels as fast in that virtual machine, as any windows machine I’ve ever used. Maybe faster actually. LOL. So yeah, I now use a Mac which allows me to use Windows more efficiently than any Windows machine out there. 😂
@@jackdehosson It works very, very well, just with all the hardware advantages of a Mac. Thinking about I've never had any problems with the VM (Parallel's) Windows and it has never crashed, unlike every Windows laptop I've ever used.
I used MacOS at home until the late 90s... used DOS/Windows at work then Linux & Solaris for my servers/workstations. While I still have a Windows gaming PC and run Linux and UNIX servers at work, everything for personal use except for gaming is Mac. Being based on BSD/NeXT (I still have a NeXT system as well) I can automate so much on my Mac and it just fits in my lifestyle as I switched back to iOS in 2020 after 8 years on android (hey it was cool to hack those early android releases). Right now I couldn't be happier, the power, performance, battery life etc... on my MacBook is phenomenal and even a little Mac Mini can handle my AV work quite well. Now if they will truly ever get the gaming side up to par, it's getting better, I won't have to use Windows at all.
I'm kind-of in the same situation. Keeping the MSI for those odd gaming seshes. Although I'm still stuck with android. I just feel like android is a much faster, more convenient OS😊🤷♂️
As a lifelong windows user too, I can’t regret switching to an M1 Mac. Everything is just simple and smooth. After some time, the interface becomes more logical than Windows. I gotta say that your editing quality and way of speaking is on par with a multi thousand subscribers channel. Great job.
Thanks for your kind words🙏 And yes, Mac OS does is just waaay smoother than Windows. I mean, it's been a year & I have never once had to go into some odd menu, or use a line of code copied off the internet to force it to do what I want😅😂 Thanks for watching & commenting😊
I think you got an area incorrect reason why a windows is slower is because it's not using the graphics card exporting the video or video playback whereas the macbook by default users media engines hence the smoother performance so you will need to use the rtx 4070 boat render and export
I think you are onto something here. I was running the free version of Resolve on Windows and only recently upgraded to Resolve Studio. Maybe worth another shot. Although I did try my best to force the GPU to do as much as possible on the MSI, so there really isn't an excuse for for example LR to run slowly compared to the Mac... Anyhow. Thanks watching and commenting🍻
@@jackdehosson I highly doubt it an rtx 4070 are in export and even playback destroys the m3 max if not the ultra and there a tons of videos on the internet which tells that and not just me pls have a look at it
The one advantage where Macbook are streaks ahead of the competition is the longevity on the batteries. I have no problem getting a 7/8 hour or more out of my MacBook Air. There's no way I would get that long on my Windows laptop - 4.5 hours if I was lucky, and then its recharge time.
If you took a ruler and drew a line a cross the screen right where the notch is, you will see where the laptop screen would normally end. Apple decided instead of having a bezel, they would put extra screen around each side. Since it’s mostly the menu bar at the top anyway you actually gain more real estate that way. You get used to it and don’t even notice it’s there.
Sorry, never bought into that argument - which mirrors Apple's advertising speak. Hate the notch, hate even the idea of a notch - most other laptops manage perfectly well without a notch, even those with quite thin bezels. Completely puts me off buying any Apple product with a notch - I simply don't want a chunk taken out of my display thank you very much! As I remember, the notch seemed to come into existence when Samsung smartphones came with large edge to edge displays, which iPhones didn't have at the time, so Apple came up with a (truly awful) gimic which appeared to hint at a larger screen size too. Fairly sure Steve Jobs with his eye for simple clean design would have vetoed the idea straight away! In terms of OS prefer GhostBSD at the moment or Linux-based systems because of the freedom they give to install so much great free software and customise the system exactly how you want it to be - MacOS is too limiting/inflexible for me.
I do agree that you get used to it, but there are plenty of other good designs that would offer the same amount of screen real estate without a notch. Or since its "mostly the menu bar", then why didn't they put a hole punch there? Personally, I think that they did it just to have it look consistent with the iPhone. It's a pass for me simply cause I don't like designs that don't fill a purpose. Thanks for watching and commenting😊
Nice video! Modifiers Keys both operating system uses all three modifier key. Most people really don’t realize it because one is just dedicated for Microsoft unlike macOS. Hit the Windows key it will open the start menu so you can search. This feature has been built into Windows for years, Think it was started back in the Windows Vista days. The alt+Control on windows are designed for developer to use. While you can use the Windows key as a modifier key most developer follow Microsoft advice and don’t use it. FaceID is a true depth camera system not just face recognition software. The catch to this is a person can take a photo and open your Windows machine with Windows Hello. They might have fixed this with technology over the years since Windows Hello was introduced. At the time of release it wasn’t all that secured. With Apple true depth camera system this is not supposed to happen. It is supposed to be able to detect if it is a photo or a real person. Clipboard yes macOS has a clipboard! Well actually it is called a Paste Board, the only difference is that it doesn’t keep a history like Windows does. The hotkey is command+(x,c, or v). Apple Paste Board even work a crossed iCloud, just like clipboard on Windows work with OneDrive. The Menubar well this can be an advantage & disadvantage at the same time. While windows has only the Task Bar it does have a feature for this as well. To fix this issue with macOS you can use an App like Bartender. The fact that most app’s I use on macOS don’t even have that large of top row menu I really don’t worry about it. On Windows it was called the System Tray. System Tray is where all of your app’s that support the System Tray will run. Same feature it just has a pop up windows to view instead of all them layout like macOS. As for Control Center well I kinda like macOS version better than windows version. Both operating system has a Control Center. Apple just has more services that are integrated into their Control Center. Notification Center well I don’t know if someone has even named this view. It the view that slides out of pop up on both operating systems. Have you ever got a notification on Windows 11, well it is this view where that notification lives until it is dismissed. The only difference with this view in both operating system is macOS allows for widget in this view. Oh wait not you can put widget on you desktop. While windows has another view for widget in Windows 11 until they remove it because no uses it aging. Microsoft has gone down this road a few times and never gets anyone to develop widget for their operating system. So, to top it off all the features you didn’t like both operating system has all the features. They just act and preform differently on both systems. Besides the Menu bar app deal I really think macOS has a cleaner user interface than Windows or any other operating system I have tried.
Yeah, it really is a give and take type deal for everything mentioned🤷♂️ And I would agree that MacOS is waaay sleeker than Windows... I mean Microsoft really has a tendency to make Windows look outdated😅 Thanks for watching and putting so much consideration in to your comment🍻 See you around👍
The menu bar is only cluttered if you want it to be. Same thing with notifications. You can control these things and decide for yourself. My menu bar is pretty clean and I don't get much notifications either. And if you don't like clutter, then just take a look at the systray on Windows with all the preinstalled useless bloatware. Now that's a mess for you.
For example, you can remove the icon for both bluetooth and wifi, because those things can still be accessed by clicking on the icon for the control center. And in most apps you can disable the menu bar icon in the settings menu (unless it's a pure menu bar app, but nobody is forcing you to use those apps). It's not that difficult to keep it clean. They just give you the option to decide for yourself.
Yeah I know, and I have since decluttered it ALOT! But some apps just fit better there, and I'd rather have them there then filling up the dock😅 But thanks for the tips👍 And thanks for watching😊
People usually put to much emphasis on OS itself. It’s just an application launcher and disk management. Choosing an OS widely depends on the work you do, people you collaborate with, and software you use for particular task. I switched back from Mac to PC in 2021 and as a visual effects artist I don’t consider mac anymore. For my line of work having a closed system that you cannot configure as you see fit or upgrade as needed is a strong no go for me. Apple silicon macs are nice, cool and very powerful but they just can’t come close to the power of nvidia in graphics. So each to their own.
Another thing that annoyed me immensely when I had my MacBook Pro and iMac, was that you can’t see what’s inside a folder in Macs. I can see what’s inside folders in Windows which saves a lot of time searching. Ie transparent folder icons. Plus all those weird shortcut key combinations. 😂 I can never remember them. And the “option” key… at first I was looking on the keyboard for an “Option” key and could never find the darn thing! …option…
@@jackdehosson Sorryyyy! Hahaha... But if you have a folder full of pictures and you know therre were photos of a town in one folder and another folder with some pictures of a house fire in another, it was easy to look at the folder and see which one has the town pictures and not the house fire. In MaOS you have to go into every darn folder to find the pictures. With hundreds of folders it is not easy just going in and renaming every folder.
Trade it now to apple and get the M4Pro (not the M4, not the MAX) with at least 1TB/2tb ~ you will thank me as the new V9 instruction-set makes a 20-30% difference alone & 24/36gb
Windows is better in the desktop and Mac on laptop. At least that's how I use and prefer. When I bought my first Mac I was super fraustrated. I even started a list of things that annoyed me and with nitpicking I had made a list of over 30-40 items. Some are still present (especially the useless dock and the window management - I have Sequoia update BTW and it's not a vast improvement) but most I have gotten used to. Now unless I'm playing games or watching movies I don't turn on the Windows desktop.
This is kind-of what I'm doing. Using the MSI more as an entertainment "desktop". It never leaves the monitor. Although I'm finding less gless use cases for it😅
I used a old MacBook for a out a month before giving it back. I was okay-ish with it. But I'm a lifetime windows user so far. I'm switching to fedora this Saturday. But the only thing I'm always keeping an eye to MacBook is cause the battery life. ARM does nice with it. Other than that, I wouldn't pick a mac lol. But the battery life is what keeps me kinda in the fine line between buying one or not.
This was basically my situation🤷♂️ But I think it all depends on what you use your laptop for mostly. Since I do creative work, and move around alot, Mac was the obvious choice. However if your workload looks different, then maybe Windows is the better option. If anything Widows for ARM looks promising, although underdeveloped at the moment🙃 Thanks for watching🍻
5:00 the reason it can’t fit the face unlock is indeed because the lid is too thin. The PC vendor fitting face unlock is because they use an insecure method of using the webcam. Apple uses a flood illuminator hardware to project dots on your face and map it to authenticate it, and currently that module is big. Besides, Apple Watch unlock and TouchID offers reasonable mitigation.
You can resolve the lack of a number keypad in one of two ways: 1) take a course in keyboarding and learn touch typing (this will greatly improve your productivity); or 2) purchase an external number keypad.
I used to say the same thing I was younger, but now I prioritize security. I no longer game since everything has been repetitive. I do miss using windows for the speed and ease of use, but I take comfort knowing my data is safe when using MacOS
Yeah, I guess that is good take. I personally feel like my data is out there no matter what, so for me it comes down to what works best or the type of work I do😊 Thanks for watching and sharing😎
The worst thing about MacOS is mouse pointer acceleration, on windows it’s very natural, on a Mac it feels like the cursor is on ice , the acceleration curve needs huge improvement
I finally decided to take my dreams seriously and start working on my art business and I sold MY Msi Raider with a 3070ti and ran into the same thing the machine was a space heater. I now make art and work on animation on a MacBook Air M3 and I’ve never looked back.
Two words: Hot Bagging. Close your laptop and put it in your bag. 4 hours later you reach into said bag and it's 40 degrees in there and your laptop battery is dead. This has happened to me with Lenovo and Dell, on Windows 7-8-10-11. Apparently this is solved with Windows on ARM, so I'm looking at you Intel!
This⬆️ I have sincerely thought my bag was gonna burn up on a few occasions 😅🔥 Never had it happen with the Mac yet😁 Lets hope Windows ARM solves it🤞 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Yeah but considering: a) the amount of storage I go through 😅 b) the amount of traveling I do😅😅 C) Apple's ABSURD storage pricing 😅😅😅 Then it's a really good solution 😁💲
@@jackdehosson I know apple storage prices are absurd. And I know it's very common solution. But I do not know how practical is having ssd drives velcro'd to the laptop if you travel.
I'm not sure what issue you are having with your specific machine, but Mac OS has always had a built in clipboard, cmd - c copy cmd - v paste I have been using Mac OS since 1997 and it has always been this way
Hi @watchtheskies ! Yeah, my bad, I meant to say that Mac OS doesn't have a built in clipboard history. I simply misspoke. However there are great 3rd party apps to fix this, and that offer great functionality. I was just surprised that this wasn't a native feature🙃
2:35 This is the main problem with the Windows platform in general. The utilization is just horrendous compared to Apple. You can have a mainframe of a Windows device (desktop/laptop) but it just doesn't use the power in most of my scenarios, resulting in much slower performance. This becomes apparent in applications for photo editing like LR Classic or smaller software. Everything from making simple edits to exporting times doubles. No, my M1 pro just kills my own pc, although it supposed to be much faster if you are looking at the raw specs. So for gaming -> pc Everything else -> Mac. I wish this was different so I could have saved some of my hard earned money but no. Not atm at least (looking at you Qualcomm). If you compare a M1 Air to a standard Windows laptop, you will encounter longer battery life (+beter sleep battery performance), beter trackpad, beter speakers, beter screen, beter keyboard, beter microphone, no performance hit on battery power, and this is not even getting to the utilization of the singlecore performance and ram usage. It's just a no brainer.
My experience EXACTLY! Agree, agree, agree! Going to be interesting how Windows transition to ARM goes🫣 Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 🍻
Mac has fast hardware and incredibly fast and well coded software... it's the design of both that slows people down. Like having a USB charge input on the bottom of your Apple mouse, or needing to diddle around or get third party apps just to split your screens. That being said, I'm from the future where I know Apple has now released a new OS that finally allows you to natively split your screens and use programmable shortcuts for it. But, yah, this was a massive issue for years. Years that Windows had it figured out. Shame Microsoft is now ruining that with their incessant integrated ads, data mining everything, and pushing copilot+ crap. Time for me to switch to Mac as well, I reckon.
Agreed! That’s why I’m still running an android phone, the design of IOS just makes simple tasks soooo slow! I know, although sadly I am still stuck waiting for Sequoia, so until then… Rectangle it is😅 Thanks for watching and commenting🍻
Thanks mate!🍻 It's got the M2 Pro chip in it, with the 16GB of RAM & 512GB of storage. Does really well, and I personally don't need more power at the moment👍
Ah sweet! Well I'm still on Sonoma, so that explains it. I think I'll stick to Rectangle as my solution though since I have it set to ctrl + opt + (left or right), this feels the most natural for me coming from Windows😊
Mate, you’ve probably spent over 10 or 15 years on Windows and only a couple of months on macOS. Of course, it seems complicated or confusing. Believe me, if you had spent those 15 years on a MacBook and then tried to switch to Windows, you’d be confused as well. I had never used macOS before buying my MacBook Air M1, and it took me a year to do things naturally without having to think about how it’s done.
Sure thing, and as said, the Mac already feels like second nature! However I think it is important to compare the two, and their respective drawbacks and benefits, in order for both sides to progress and become better user experiences, no matter what side of the fence you reside☺️ Thanks for watching and commenting 😎
Same now I understand the extend to my sillyness haha, Apple just does it better overall in the recent years, I have to take my hat off to them, when they really double down on gaming it is... Game over? I will give you the notch really is a bad design choice and honestly headscratching choice overall. Atm I am on Linux and loving it, but am contemplating taking the plunge but prob gonna end up installing Linux on it haha
the whole "good hardware, inefficient software" thing was genuinely so spot on I love macOS to bits but man sometimes it feels so clunky to use because you need to be so precise all the damn time
Yup... And don't even get me started on IOS/iPadOS😅 Maybe this is worth bringing to Apples attention, many people who switch seem to think the same...🤷♂️ Thanks for watching and commenting 🍻
biggest tradeoff with Macs is lack of software/hardware compatibility due to frequent updates, it's not a coincidence you won't find many video reviews on using Macs after 6-8 years...
That's true! Although I would say that that goes both ways. Especially now when Windows 11 has rolled around with a bunch of new requirements. Also in my experience (& since most laptops aren't really upgradable) I have switched devices at around the 5 year mark... That is when I find that their age usually catches up to them and make them really slow... Anyhow. Thanks for watching👍
Massive notches makes me nervous. Can you not install windows on apple silicone? I did it with bootcamp on an intel based MacBook but may be different with the apple silicone
Macs are nice but somewhat limited in their capabilities. I sold my M1 MacBook in favor of a Windows laptop for its versatility and, surprisingly, better specifications. However, when it comes to tablets, iPads are unrivaled, which is why I own an iPad Pro M1 12.9Additionally, the notch seems superfluous given that the iPad Pro features a thin bezel and Face ID.
No, ipad os is extremely limiting, Samsung's tablet's have much better multitasking and productivity features along with support for DeX which is excellent, there's no point of ipads having the M series of chip cz they rarely ever make any use of that chip's power bottlenecked by ipados
@@nafeeahnaf6296 The primary distinction between iPadOS and Android lies in the professional applications unavailable on Android. While I own a Fold 6 and Dex is impressive, the absence of professional apps is disappointing. It's not feasible to compare the two regarding professional use. Yeah, I have actually thought about getting an iPad Air to just have around the house and to do some sketches on with the Apple pencil. Would you say that the 13 (12.9) is a good size? Or is 11 enough? And yes... No excuses for the Mac team after the new Ipad launched with Face ID😅 Thanks for watching mate🍻
@@nafeeahnaf6296 I'm not sure where my comment went, but iOS on iPads has all the professional apps, which Android mostly lacks. For me, it's not about what the iPad and Android can't do; it's about the professional apps.
as a graphic designer who uses windows the battery life sucks and honestly i don’t know why i didn’t buy a macbook because my whole eco system is almost Apple. I just don’t have the money right now sadly but i wish to have my hands 1 day on a macboook
Yeah as a graphic designer you'd love it. But save up, and then buy last year's chip to save a few dollars👍 That's what I did, the M3 was released, so I bought the M2 MacBook at a discount 😊 Oh and if you're already in the Apple eco-system that a Macbook is no brainer... However I would recommend the route I've taken which is not to rely on any of apple's apps or services. This means that I can switch to whatever OS I want, whenever I want, without it being a major pain😊 Thanks for watching and good luck 🍻

Good video but a bit outdated. Now that both AMD and Qualcomm have joined Apple in TSMC, both Ryzen AI9 and X Elite offer similar if not better performance to the M laptops in both raw power and heat management.
Yes… and no… there is still the issue of Microsoft & developers are being a bit behind the curve in optimising & transferring to ARM. I switched to Mac and never once looked back. The only bad thing is I use windows every day at work. Windows is feature packed yes but so buggy, slow, tempremental etc.
Great Video! But the Point to the inefficient to use OS is Not that valid. If you get really hooked to Keyboard shortcuts and so, you will Navigate it very fast. In my experience better than with Windows.

4:53 it physically can’t Face ID uses a dot projection technology while windows uses the webcam feed to detect the user. Face ID is more secure for that reason
Yes, that is true, although Windows hello is getting pretty good as well. Especially when configured like in the MSI here when it has extra IR sensors and other trickery to detect fakes👍 And think of it this way: the new iPad Pro has face ID and it is 5,1mm thick... The MacBook lid is 4.... It's getting damn close. Give us Face ID already Apple😂 Thanks for watching🍻
Touch my finger to a button is brutally difficult I know. Touch display is the dumbest shit for most people. Its literally more effort reaching up to touch and smudge your dispaly. Your hands are already on the keyboard touchpad or mouse. I personally have never thought. "Man I wish I could touch my screen with my sticky greasy or dirty hands. Thing is bro That Mac willl be running perfectly ten years later and if you got skills It will still be fully updated on the latest OS. I do that to old 2012 Macs that run flawlessly. And if you have an iphone you can text androids iphones. Text everyone. You want to sell that Mac 5 years later. If you took care of it you might get half your money back
honestly if you are happy with macos good for you but i dont want to get stuck in the appple walled garden ... so i am learning linux which is free si i may switch to linux and use windows only when neccesary (which is right now needed for me :(
Understandable. However although I am now using Mac I am not using any apple services. Not iCloud, not apple music, apple pay, final cut... None of it. I only use cross compatible services, and am sticking to a mixed eco system so that I can switch whenever I want😊 Only exception would be apple find my, for my other iPad... But hey🤷♂️ Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Yes it would be interesting to try the new ARM laptops... only one issue, the developers haven't really caught up yet with the change, so many Windows programs still aren't optimised, leading to diminished performance. But hey, maybe next time🤷♂️ Thanks for watching!
It definitely feels clunkier & slower in ways than Windows file manager. But hey, maybe someday I will get 100% accustomed to finder anyway🤷♂️ Thanks for watching😊
I mean Face ID on the iPhone uses LiDAR and requires more sensors than just an RGB camera, that’s why it works in the dark and is very secure. They probably could do some sort of face recognition using an RGB camera like on your windows laptop, but it wouldn’t be as secure (perhaps it’s even possible to unlock with a 2D picture) and it wouldn’t work at night either.
Hey @martijnvanderwal3976 ! Thanks for watching! Yes you are not the only one to point this out, however I don't completely buy it. Yes Face ID is definitely still more secure, but Windows Hello has come along way, and can no longer be fooled by just an image, or similar attacks. For example in this MSI, it uses IR sensors to help define who is unlocking the device. You can even see these IR sensors being picked up by my camera at @1:40 in the video😊 So it is no longer "just" an RGB camera. Plus, in this crazy world we live in with vision based AI, I would be ready to trust "just a camera" anyway. For example, my Pixel 8 Pro offers face unlock using just the front facing camera, and I have never had anyone else get through. Thanks for the discussion & for watching🍻
Indeed! I have put Velcro on the back of my MacBook as well as my SSD’s, this way I can bring them easily. My workflow revolves around these SSD’s. Everything is stored on them, and then backed up to a home server I have setup at a relatives place. This way it’s fast for me to work locally, and my data is backed up and safe.👍 Thanks for watching and thanks for your question 😊🍻
Macbooks are best. But windows is pretty close now. You should have gone with a Lenovo yoga pro 9i or a Asus pro art p16 maybe you wouldn't have gone back
Well thats the catch… ”now”… a lot has happened in the Windows for ARM space over the past year. So if I had to buy a laptop TODAY then maybe my choice had been different. But at the moment I am very happy with my Mac, and I hope it will last me a long time 😃 Thanks for watching🍻
Im havi g the exact dame issue with my MacBook all externañ SSD get randomice disconnected and last week doing a back up of a TV show I was shooting and the drive just died on me. It was murieres by the Mac, the third external drive killed by it in toree months.
Man that sucks! If you have some sort of Apple dealer or electronics repair shop nearby it might be worth having it checked out... Not sure there is anything to be done, but maybe at least you can decide what to do with it if you know there is something haywire🤷♂️ Thanks for watching and sharing your experience😊
Maybe not 22 hours for the work I'm doing, but absolutely 7-8hrs+. But that is with a pretty heavy mix of editing. If I use it lighter & not as much I can go days without needing a charge💪 Personally I have never gotten more than 4hrs out of a windows laptop... And that's while watching TH-cam, not doing demanding tasks like editing😊 Thanks for watching 🍻
I'm too poor for Apple, and I'm too smart for Windows that only leaves one desktop/laptop option. Linux.. it doesn't help I game too. You can't really game on a Mac. The naysayers saying you can't game on Linux, obviously play games with invasive kernel level anti-cheat. Linux is the way.
Apple is investing in gaming, there are already some amazing games and they put a lot of effort into making it easier for developers to port their existing games. They’ve really gone all out and it shows: Resident evil 4 / 7 / village, along with death stranding and a day one release for the next assassin’s creed game.
@@martijnvanderwal3976 Honestly - 5 ported games is not justifiable for me to call it a proper laptop for gaming. There is no motivation for developers to port new, or old games to MacOs. Maybe if they somehow tried to get them on some sugar (like with artists on Apple music and Dolby Atmos support). Also, I think if Apple means gaming seriously - they should create a separate app store for games - their own game launcher. App Store, currently, is not just built to download 60 GB games and games in general.
G'day mate! Thanks for watching! Now I hate to break it to you but the paste command doesn't exist in real life yet. The hardrives you see are actually only stuck on by velcro (I know, boring🙄). This awesome solution ensures that when I'm on the go they don't flop around, risk dismounting, and corrupting my work. I'm also less likely to lose them. Win win! Oh and when I don't need them I can just peel them right off👍
Ahhhh, my clickbait worked😉 Yes, and no. Yes it was my fault because I didn't give it enough time. No because it did kill my HDD, I spoke with my friend who recommended me to go with Mac, and after double checking my actions, even he told me to have it repaired or returned🙃 Simply just some bad luck... But hey, it all worked out in the end😊 Thanks for watching🍻
Nice hardware, bad software...the same as Windows based devices. I just checked, the M3 Pro is 55 000 in my country....that is nuts. The M3 Max is 77 000...double nuts. I only work on and with Windows. I find it user friendly and fast IF the OEM follow Microsoft's recommendation for specs. All my W11 and W10 devices boot up within 10 seconds, I dont use hybrid sleep which boots them up even faster. The gripe I have with Windows based devices...is third party software. Web browsers on Windows are going bonkers with their huge memory usage (1 tab on this TH-cam uses 1.6GB of ram with browser protection addon).Microsoft should really FORCE developers down a certain path when designing applications for Windows. Guidelines and security protocols must be enforced so the app just works and works correctly.
@@bitcoinjc Ja, dit is so klein bietjie bo die finansies van die meerderheid mense. Gelukkig het ek nie dit nodig nie en dit wat ek kan doen met die Apple, kan ek net so maklik met my Windows rekenaars doen.
Yes, Apple's pricing is quite frankly RIDICULOUS!... However for the creative apps I use it crushes my Windows laptop. And even though I have tried many of the tricks you mentioned, I just can't get Windows to wake up as quickly as I want it to, nor for it to retain it's battery well while sleeping... Anyhow. I use Mac OS, Windows 11 and Linux. The only thing I can say that Mac OS needs to improve is the file manager.
The only thing Linux needs to improve its more newer hardware compatibility.
The only thing Windows needs to improve is the entire operating system.
Sounds about right 😂

I have to disagree here. There were many little annoyances with mac when coming from windows. The one that annoys me the most is the drag and drop delay when using double tap to drag stuff. And in general the whole mouse/cursor behavior on mac feels worse than on windows to me.
If you use a lts distro on new devices it often causes problems. I encountered hardware and driver issues on ubuntu but i have switched to fedora and it runs almost perfect.
I'm so glad to find someone saying what I think - I've used all 3 (mostly Windows until the last year when I switched to Mac)
I really miss Windows File Manager.

I just can’t get over how slow iOS feels to nevigate😅 However I wouldn’t mind trying an iPhone in the future… maybe next phone 🤷♂️

Just enable hibernation to activate when you close the lid on windows. Problem solved.

Agreed! For all my work purposes my Mac BLAZEZ all my previous Windows machines! But yeah for games the MSI is great!
Thanks for watching!
Hey mate! Thanks for watching and taking your time with this comment❤️🍻
And just to keep the discussion going a bit:
1. Yeah, I know it's similar with the modifier keys. It was just in the beginning I felt like a few Apple "shortcuts" weren't as intuitive as ctrl or ctrl+alt, so I simply question, the need for an "extra" button... Just like I question why the Windows key exists😅 Like seriously who uses it except for split screen and clipboard🤦♂️
2. So still 0 excuses for Apple IMO😉
Also, I have noticed that many have misunderstood my point here. I have 0 complaints about touch ID, or the lack of FaceID, my complaint was the notch. I don't like designs that don't fill a function🙃
Anyway. Thanks for sticking around🍻

Sweet, well good luck on your Macintosh journey😅

LOL😂 Sounds like I’m going to have to try that myself just for the fun of it😂

I think you got an area incorrect reason why a windows is slower is because it's not using the graphics card exporting the video or video playback whereas the macbook by default users media engines hence the smoother performance so you will need to use the rtx 4070 boat render and export
Probably doesnt have the paid version of davinci resolve. You need paid version to get hw acceleration in davinci for windows.
@@jackdehosson I highly doubt it an rtx 4070 are in export and even playback destroys the m3 max if not the ultra and there a tons of videos on the internet which tells that and not just me pls have a look at it
@@jackdehosson depends on what you do. Heavy edits with alot of fx and 3d work, the rtx will crush it. lightroom is more cpu dependent.

Yeah, it really is a give and take type deal for everything mentioned🤷♂️
And I would agree that MacOS is waaay sleeker than Windows... I mean Microsoft really has a tendency to make Windows look outdated😅
Thanks for watching and putting so much consideration in to your comment🍻 See you around👍
But some apps just fit better there, and I'd rather have them there then filling up the dock😅
But thanks for the tips👍 And thanks for watching😊

@@jackdehosson Sorryyyy! Hahaha...

Hi, may I ask why you do not use your mac to Watch movies ?
@@counter511 Because I prefer watching on my big 32 inch 4K monitor which is connected to my PC instead of my MacBook

If anything Widows for ARM looks promising, although underdeveloped at the moment🙃

Your data safe from whom? MacOS does collect data.
Yeah, I guess that is good take. I personally feel like my data is out there no matter what, so for me it comes down to what works best or the type of work I do😊

if you want security, linux is a good option
The worst thing about MacOS is mouse pointer acceleration, on windows it’s very natural, on a Mac it feels like the cursor is on ice , the acceleration curve needs huge improvement

This⬆️ I have sincerely thought my bag was gonna burn up on a few occasions 😅🔥 Never had it happen with the Mac yet😁
Lets hope Windows ARM solves it🤞

Small LOL at these drives velcro'd to the back :D.
Yeah but considering:
a) the amount of storage I go through 😅
b) the amount of traveling I do😅😅
C) Apple's ABSURD storage pricing 😅😅😅
Then it's a really good solution 😁💲
@@jackdehosson I know apple storage prices are absurd. And I know it's very common solution.
But I do not know how practical is having ssd drives velcro'd to the laptop if you travel.
I'm not sure what issue you are having with your specific machine, but Mac OS has always had a built in clipboard,
cmd - c copy
cmd - v paste
I have been using Mac OS since 1997 and it has always been this way
Hi @watchtheskies !

Going to be interesting how Windows transition to ARM goes🫣
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 🍻
I know, although sadly I am still stuck waiting for Sequoia, so until then… Rectangle it is😅
Thanks for watching and commenting🍻
Pretty nice vid mate, what's the specs of your mac?
Thanks mate!🍻 It's got the M2 Pro chip in it, with the 16GB of RAM & 512GB of storage. Does really well, and I personally don't need more power at the moment👍
5:40
There is a shortcut for split screen and it goes
Fn + shift + ctrl + (left or right)
this works on macOS sequoia
Ah sweet! Well I'm still on Sonoma, so that explains it.
I think I'll stick to Rectangle as my solution though since I have it set to ctrl + opt + (left or right), this feels the most natural for me coming from Windows😊
Linux VMs run flawlessly on my M1 Max too
Huh, sweet! The M1 Max must be a beast hey😎
You just earned yourself a sub :)
Cheers mate🍻
Mate, you’ve probably spent over 10 or 15 years on Windows and only a couple of months on macOS. Of course, it seems complicated or confusing. Believe me, if you had spent those 15 years on a MacBook and then tried to switch to Windows, you’d be confused as well. I had never used macOS before buying my MacBook Air M1, and it took me a year to do things naturally without having to think about how it’s done.
Sure thing, and as said, the Mac already feels like second nature! However I think it is important to compare the two, and their respective drawbacks and benefits, in order for both sides to progress and become better user experiences, no matter what side of the fence you reside☺️

That's one way of doing it😅

the whole "good hardware, inefficient software" thing was genuinely so spot on
I love macOS to bits but man sometimes it feels so clunky to use because you need to be so precise all the damn time
Yup... And don't even get me started on IOS/iPadOS😅
Maybe this is worth bringing to Apples attention, many people who switch seem to think the same...🤷♂️

biggest tradeoff with Macs is lack of software/hardware compatibility due to frequent updates,
it's not a coincidence you won't find many video reviews on using Macs after 6-8 years...
It works only with Intel basted macs

I have an array of Samsung products at home, so this isn't about brand bias.
Yeah, I have actually thought about getting an iPad Air to just have around the house and to do some sketches on with the Apple pencil. Would you say that the 13 (12.9) is a good size? Or is 11 enough?
And yes... No excuses for the Mac team after the new Ipad launched with Face ID😅
Thanks for watching mate🍻
@@nafeeahnaf6296 I'm not sure where my comment went, but iOS on iPads has all the professional apps, which Android mostly lacks. I've owned multiple Samsung devices, and most of my home devices are Samsung. I currently have the Fold 6; DeX is amazing and truly provides a full desktop experience-it can even turn my Samsung TV into a computer.

But save up, and then buy last year's chip to save a few dollars👍 That's what I did, the M3 was released, so I bought the M2 MacBook at a discount 😊
Oh and if you're already in the Apple eco-system that a Macbook is no brainer... However I would recommend the route I've taken which is not to rely on any of apple's apps or services. This means that I can switch to whatever OS I want, whenever I want, without it being a major pain😊

The base mode is a good start and i miss nothing in comparison with my PC.
No doubt they will catch up, and give Apple a run for their money, but that day isn’t today, and certainly not a year ago when I switched🙃

Inefficient software is really what keeps me away from Macs, especially IOS

Decent vid. Didn’t even mention security.
4:53 it physically can’t Face ID uses a dot projection technology while windows uses the webcam feed to detect the user. Face ID is more secure for that reason
Yes, that is true, although Windows hello is getting pretty good as well. Especially when configured like in the MSI here when it has extra IR sensors and other trickery to detect fakes👍

Do you have SSDs fixed onto your macbook?
Indeed! I have put Velcro on the back of my MacBook as well as my SSD’s, this way I can bring them easily. My workflow revolves around these SSD’s. Everything is stored on them, and then backed up to a home server I have setup at a relatives place. This way it’s fast for me to work locally, and my data is backed up and safe.👍

But at the moment I am very happy with my Mac, and I hope it will last me a long time 😃

Frankly is that 22hr battery works 22hrs? All my windows laptop bearly could stay up for 2 hrs!
Maybe not 22 hours for the work I'm doing, but absolutely 7-8hrs+. But that is with a pretty heavy mix of editing. If I use it lighter & not as much I can go days without needing a charge💪

Linux is certainly an option… but I personally needed a plug and play solution for editing specifically 👍

Apple could easily add face unlock but you could fool it with photo like you can windows hello.
MBPs are super nice but also sounds like you bought lousy windows laptops before. Try a Thinkpad next time.
I still think that if Apple invested into gaming... and you could run AAA games on it.. NOONE would buy Windows.
Asahi linux is moving towards this
@topcomp1066 I'd get rid of the MSI if that happened😅

Nice hardware, bad software...the same as Windows based devices. I just checked, the M3 Pro is 55 000 in my country....that is nuts. The M3 Max is 77 000...double nuts.
