    Do you prefer to start with a sketch or go directly into 3D when you start a piece?

      I mostly get inspiration from Pinterest or concept art, photography, or where ever I can find pleasing visuals, take bits and pieces and work from there.
      If I do sketches they are incredibly rough.
      Really great with the matte painting, I don't see it used enough in general!

      I mainly start with simple 3D hand sketches, then into ArchiCAD to build in 3D. I only really go to 2D views to check that things are plumb. Then render out in Maxwell, and paint over in Affinity.

    Thank you for those videos. It is a great insight for me as a student.
    I usually sketch with pencil, because I love the feel and sound of drawing on paper. But looking at this, I feel like I need to learn matte painting! The results look amazing.

    I'm still in university and every profesor insists on doing the sketches first, they are a bit old school but I like it

    As for your question, I walk around the 3d environment, then do some hand sketches just to put ideas on paper and go back to 3d

    Hi, I direct into 3d and will get a render from Blender and do a BW painting/bashing over for sketches. Then build 80 percent of the scenes in blender for final. Thats my workflow for games

    I usually sketch 4 or 5 different composition set ups, with simple lines and surfaces, just like small thumbnails, then I get either into 3D (Blender) where i model the concept, or 2D using my sketch as a layer !

    • @Arqui9visualisation
      @Arqui9visualisation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for commenting, this is also my preferred method, but when it comes to client work, mostly jumping straight to 3D

    • @PhantomWowfull
      @PhantomWowfull 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Arqui9visualisation Why is that ? Do you think it takes too much time ?

    • @Arqui9visualisation
      @Arqui9visualisation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhantomWowfull I guess probably more so, as it can be similar to a photographer exploring the site, the moods etc, whereas when you are creating something for yourself, you can change any element, design anything and i think sketching can be much quicker at that

    • @PhantomWowfull
      @PhantomWowfull 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Arqui9visualisation Yes the creative process is more possible when you dont really know what you're going for. I do go directly into 3D when I make my projects, since it is based on a real world sized building, with a specific context. Then looking for the right angles to tell the story

  • @evolgenius1150
    @evolgenius1150 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't use 3D Max, so I don't know if that's a feature to render the background like that, or did you put in some sort of very plain HDRI environment lighting? Right now I'm studying 3D in Blender and Unreal 4.... not because I want to make deeply complex scenes, but so I can quickly block something out and paint over it, the prospect of having mutliple angles, easy selection with colored render passes by id, and having perspective and shadows setup for me will allow me to crank out some concepts quickly - what I"m going for is exactly what you are doing here in this video.
    Unfortunately i'm not there yet and these tools are very cumbersome for me ^_^

  • @antoinewilmot3297
    @antoinewilmot3297 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think doing multiple sketches first and forcing your brain to actually come up with different ideas can be a game changer sometimes, it is really useful in concept art, usually you get more fresh designs the third time around 👍

    It really depends for me... I'm a university student and my lecturers always tell us : if you can't model it, sketch it and if you can't sketch it, model it... I tend to work off a preliminary sketch or idea but I trust the process and end up exploring that idea in 3d way more than I would otherwise have done through sketching
