Thanks for the info,, just got back into collections / flipping,, didn't even know about short print cards untill I ran into to cards with the same # different pic?? Now I have the task of going threw 3 years of what I thought were standard cards/ commons to find all the short prints!!! Been threw one box & already found 12... Gonna be a good day 👍

Sometimes the SP will be turn over in the pack, with back side of the card facing you.
Yes that’s right! This video is a bit older - it was before they were putting SPs upside down.
Just getting back into hobby. Thank for the info, I had to ask someone why a card would be upsidedown in a pack.. sometimes it can be a auto too.

Hopefully you can help me with this for 2022 playbook football. I have a 2022-23 playbook football, blue parralel and it is also a mosaic. Do you know how to identify on this brand whether or not is in fact a SP or SSP?

but is the short print or variation always going to have that code can there be a short printer variation that doesn't have that code
@philzfan for the topps sets that have codes, the short prints always have the corresponding code on the bottom

Woohooo! Glad this one helped clear that up!! One thing Topps has started doing with short prints is placing them in the packs facing backwards so that when you get a backwards card you’ll also know it’s a short print

There are short prints in all different products
Are short prints / variations only found in packs, or can they also be found randomly within complete sets?
For the most part- but now Topps tends to include Factory Set Exclusive cards to make buying the full set more desirable. For example the 2020 Topps Set

Gotcha! You May have gotten a pack in the box for that set-‘if so that’s where the exclusives would be

Hi JGs- any sport or brand can have a short print - topps is just more commonly known for creating them!

Stil not understanding the number on the codes to look for pn sp,s or ssp
If you Google the year and name of the set you are trying to look for specifically there are a number of great websites that will list the code for that particular set and if it represents sp or SSP , etc

I have a question showing my stupidity. Yes I was one of those who collected back in the 80’s and early 90’s. Stopped for a while and have gotten back into it now. My question is how far back or when actually did short prints and variations start? Because to the best of my knowledge there wasn’t things like that years ago. Granted there was just a handful of cards and sets you could collect and now there are dozens. Again guys sorry for my stupidity. Look forward to your comments. Take it easy on me.
No question is a stupid question! Shirt prints have been around dating back to the 40s however the big difference is back then it was unintentionally done where as now it is intentional. I believe the modern version of short printing started around the early 2000s
What about the early 90s cards where they did a lot of horizontal base cards. Is there an easier way for those era cards
Unfortunately no- the older the card the harder it is to identify if it’s a shortprint or error card. For those I would recommend googling “short prints or error card plus the set name and year” there are some great websites that did all the legwork for us

Ok you telling us horizontal is a short print but I have alot of them why don't they just put sp so you taking didn't help me at all
This video was from a few years ago where horizontal cards were often short prints- since then things have changed and horizontals are more likely base than sp

It depends on the year and product - the code on the back in the best way- but in recent years , Topps, for example started placing them backwards in packs and with the “SP” or “SSP” letters on the back

Bro I have been putting hours into your channel and learning so much. Thank you for that bro. But I have purchased a "lot" from my friend because he had alot of time to do and he was selling everything so I bought crates of baseball, football and basketball. I have a little of everything. Probably around 10K. I threw away the junk so this is what's left over.i want to sell it all at once. Id only be wanting like 10 or 15% of what they are worth. Got any ideas?

Good video overall I just heard short print in variation thrown around a lot and have been trying to figure out what it means
A short print is a card that they don’t print much of- it’s a lot rarer than a typical base Card counterpart.
A variation is more rare than a base, but less rare than a short print. Somewhere in between
Only got 6 minutes in and all I got out of this was speculation not even facts on how to figure out short prints
