TREK INTO THE HEART OF JEJU ISLAND , A Wondrous, massive shield volcano, MT. Hallasan, and it’s deep surrounding forest trek lead you to great outdoors. Through 3 days, 57km Classic Korea trail, I can experience the highest mountain in Korea, feel the mysterious beauty of Jeju island, a world heritage area with hundreds of passionate trekkers.
DAY 1 : 16KM
Eorimok Trail
Eorimok is a 6.8km streetscape which comprises Hallasan National Park Information Center(970m)- Eorimok Valley- Sajebi Hill(1,423m)- Manse Hill(1,606m)- Witse Oreum Shelter(1,700m)- Nambyuk Circuit- Nambyuk Intersection(1,600m). A steep uphill course to Sajebi Hill could be tough, but from Manse Hill to Witse Oreum Shelter and all the way to Nambyuk Intersection, trails are relatively flat. Plus, there you can enjoy views of the crater wall of Southern Baengnokdam Crater Lake as well as the breathtaking view of Mt.Halla.
Witse Oreum Shelter
Welcome to the first Checkpoint for day 1. There is a toilet to use and lunch ready for you. Take a break as long as you want, but don’t forget to pass here within 13:30 due to national park regulation.
Yeongsil Trail
Yeongsil Trail is one of the most scenic places in Jeju, where you will find the famous Yeongsil Rock, a beautiful pine grove, and the Seonjakjiwat plain full of subalpine vegetation. It’s also a place where visitors can see Mt.Halla’s roe deer up close. The stone towers formed by Seonjakjiwat’s basaltic latite lava flow constitute a fortress wall, which makes the scenery even more unique.
Hawon Waterway
Hawon Waterway was built in mid 1950s to supply water to rice paddies in Hawon village with abundant water resources of Mt.Halla. This waterway, located between Yeongsil-Jonja Temple and Beobjeong Temple, used to be the path used by monks and was a beloved hiking course until a road was built nearby. Enjoy the fresh air of the forest that follows down the waterway.
DAY 2 : 24KM
Seogwipo Natural Recreation Forest
Welcome to Hallasan National Park. This is a recreational forest located in the national park, densely surrounded by sun trees. Enjoy the forest bathing! The second day’s walk will start here.
Dol Oreumgil
This is a relatively short course of 5.6km where you can get a peek of human life in harmony with nature. It has Yong Rock, multiple shiitake mushroom cultivation areas, and a historic charcoal kiln site. Admire the pleasant autumn shades of acorn trees and maple trees.
Shiitake Mushroom Cultivation Area
You will get a glimpse of human life assimilating with nature in this shiitake mushroom cultivation areas located in the forest. This is where the day 3 Checkpoint is located.
Cheona Forest Path
Maple trees could be the symbol of Mt.Halla’s fall, painting the scenery in splendid shades. You will walk through such spectacular maple forests, the highest point(1,000m) of Hallasan Dullegil.
DAY 3 : 17.6KM
Olle 16 Trail
If you have fully enjoyed the mountains and forests, this trail will lead you to the village where you can experience the culture of Jeju. A coastline and tangerine farms are followed by woods and villages, and if you are lucky you might be able to try Jeju’s specialty, tangerine.
Historical Site of Hyangpaduri
This is the place where Sambyeolcho, a resistance group, fought until their end against the Mongolian troops during the Goryeo Dynasty. Walking along the Hyangpaduri earthen ramparts will be a very special experience itself.
Olle Coastline
You’re almost there. Follow 2km along the Aewol Coastline, and you’ve made it to the finish line. Feel the sea breeze and enjoy the splendid scenery of the ocean until the end.
The Fjällräven Classic concept started in northern Sweden in 2005. Our goal was to help and inspire more people to get outdoors and reconnect with nature.
Now, Fjällräven classic meets Korea, more than 300 Korean participants experience the Fjällräven classic every year. Now, passion leads to Jeju. The 57 km trail, including the beautiful and unique Mt. Hallasan National park, which shining on UNESCO’s natural heritage, will leave unforgettable memories for trekkers all around the world.
