A lot of people are getting too tied up in the idea of Jon Jones being in the striker build section of the video. Yes, he’s not ONLY a striker. He has a hybrid style. That’s not the point of the video. He has the epitome of a strikers build. GSP, another hybrid fighter, although mostly a wrestler has the epitome of a wrestlers build. Im just placing them into different categories based on physique alone.

End of the day, it just depends on your style. I wrestled at 170 at only 5’6 but with a very stocky build. Short wide legs and very long arms. This build never felt like a disadvantage even though I was going against some tall tall guys and was pretty small in terms of height. So for wrestling I felt like I had the perfect body for 170. For other guys they utilize their body in a different way so any body type can be successful, mine was a blessing at 170

I am a wrestler. I noticed that in all the fights I had as a child I never felt like throwing blows as much as getting to a hand-to-hand fight, even though I was much shorter and thinner than other children in elementary and middle school I always noticed that as far as specific strength and particularly in my legs I have always been stronger than the others. I always lost in arm wrestling but I was able to carry far more weight on my back than my peers could, my grip strength was also superior. my physical frame has always been made up of the lower body being much more developed than the upper body, especially my calves. I also had quite long arms and a squat torso like a brick or a log and not like a triangle. My back has also always been particularly strong. I have been practicing Judo since the tender age of 7 and I have always enjoyed it, I did many competitions at the regional level. Then I dropped out for a transfer and began training in powerlifting and parkour and developed a very robust and compact but at the same time athletic physical shape. This year at the age of 16 I started practicing Sambo and Brazilian Jiu jitsu seriously at a competitive level, I feel great, I am very enthusiastic and my instructors were amazed by my skills after barely a month and a half of training specific. They say I have potential and I hope so. In 8 days I have my first official Sambo tournament, I know that the first few times you almost never win, but I hope to beat someone since I will necessarily have to compete with adults as I now weigh much more than my peers.

It is beneficial for everyone to be long and lean. The striking advantage is obvious. You can hit guys from farther away, you have the ability to loop punches around defenders blocks from further, you can hit harder at lower weights, and you have your chin further away from your opponents strikes. But to me an even bigger advantage of being long is that you get tremendous leverage for grappling. Even the best grapplers in the world tend to struggle to grapple with long strikers because their length lets them do so much more. You look at guys like Gustafsson, Adesanya,or Wonderboy, who are pure strikers but stopped world class grapplers from getting them down, or even Jon Jones, who was never a world class wrestler, but was able to out grapple everyone in his division because of his incredible length advantage. There is a reason the top guys in almost every division are taller guys who are cutting down to fight at lower weights.

Idk man grapplers have been dominating the sport since it’s entire existence lol the only weight class that benefits being long and lean is middleweight and even then grapplers have dominated that weight class for a long time. There hasn’t been a single pure striker(adesanyas been training with the best bjj artist of all time for 5 years and he’s a black belt) who is a champion but there are several pure grapplers that have been champions such as Brock Lesnar, Daniel Cormier, khabib and Islam, etc. Also saying that Jon jones isn’t a world class wrestler is hilarious lmao he literally competed in one of the highest levels in wrestling. But Adesanya is one the way down, as are Gustaffson and Wonderboy, hell even Edwards can lose to Muhammad if they ever actually fight again :D around 2016-17, the meta wa slong lanky dudes, but Khabib and DC changed it somewhat. Further back in the day? Fedor Emilianenko, I'll say no more. Almost every single opponent he faced on the way up was taller, lankier and more toned and he smashed them all.

Jones’ long limbs are what seem to be the best physical advantage. He can move quick on his feet due to the leaner muscle, his tall and long limbs make it harder for fighters to control him on the ground, and the skinnier limbs don’t tire out as quickly. After a few rounds of wrestling, the fighters bodies are full of blood. Heavier arms means more weight to hold up to protect yourself and more weight and torque for effective punches. Those heavy arms work against the fighter who’s exhausted

none of the long limbs fighters are nearly as strong or as quick as he did. I’d say the best build are those like Izzy adesanya and Alex Pereira, skinny but buff at the same time, wiry guys. They are slim and their arms are skinny, but they are so powerful that the slimness of their arms compliments the strike, like getting hit with a spear. We need to see more of Alex pereira to know, and observe when he moves up weight, but so far his body type seems extremely adequate when it comes to striking. Of course I don’t know if this comes down solely to his body shape but probably on a more complex level like his muscle type and his muscle fibers, but him and Adesanya are very explosive but also have a lot of endurance, truly best of both worlds.

Body type is second to musclefibre type. Whether you have slow or fast twitch fibres, that's what going to determine how you should fight. If you're slow twitch, you are less likely to tire yourself out in extended engagements, whether it be grappling or striking. Fast twitch guys like McGregor should and will try to finish you early, or they will most likely be at a disadvantage, should the fight last too long. Cardio is major factor, sure, but it mostly depends on how much energy you have to expend to fight in your preferred manner, which will ultimately depend on your fibre composition.

this guy just said "in jiu jitsu your taught to sit criss cross apple sauce and bow to your instructor while they teach the class"
Yikes. Try jiu jitsu before you say dumb shit about it.

Jon is a great example of the hybrid, NJCAA wrestling champion with excellent striking.

Big boys actually have the stamina advantage, ikr right? If you’re too muscular you’ll get tired way quicker since your muscles need oxygen. I’d say hybrid with more wrestling is the best bc like you said they keep assuming youre taking them down.

Jon Jones definitely has the best physique . He is tall Lanky but very strong, He can strike better than most strikers in the division but he also has the best wrestling to offer. But imo my dream fighting physique is Dan Henderson, A wrestling physique with an iron chin, makes for a very formidable and tough fighter imo

he has powerlifter stats too. I think jon jones is a powerlifter in disguise, doing MMA lol. I seen guys built like him in powerlifter gyms, so lanky, u wouldnt think they can lift that heavy

At their natural weight without the weight cuts, that's also the healthiest physique. Cardio for the heart health, decent amount of weight training for joints and bone density. Guys like Poatan, Jiri or LHW Jones can be profficient at basically every physical activity.

I used to be a Big Boy at 6'1", 360 pounds, unable to overhead press an empty barbell. No joke, I had to use the ladies' bar when I first started.
Now I'm a Big Guy at 6'1", 308, strict pressing the big wheels. And I'm very fortunate to go to a jiu-jitsu school that doesn't bow and includes elements of everything from wrestling to Sambo. They're out there and they're a Godsend.
