...the great irony being that they are probably the arbiters of their own misery, the problems they have could be fixed at any time if they had any motivation to look inward and make some changes, but they are also entitled and want the world to change for THEM, not the other way around.

They and their upper-class 'handlers' (the corporates, the billionaires and the political class of 'conservatives') have engineered the American public school system to suit THEIR bigotry, THEIR anti-scientific & anti-intellectual attitudes and resentments.
      SO IT'S THEIR FAULT.
THEY DID IT TO THEMSELVES, THEIR CHILDREN.
THEY PLAN TO DO THAT TO ALL THE REST OF US.
Bored? If you can't read anything but a bronze age/subRoman tribal collection of fake mythology, because anything else will contradict your prejudices... yeah, you can get bored. YOU DESERVE TO BE BORED.
You want to be ignorant, you can be as bored as hell and I don't care.
That's YOUR CHOICE. You have the right to make that choice.
YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE CHOICES FOR THE REST OF US.

THE DIXIE/DICKSICRATS HAVE KILLED THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.
THEY ARE THE REAL 'RINOs'. THEY ARE RED HATS.
THEY ARE RACISTS. THEY MUST CONTROL BLACK PEOPLE.
THEY DESPISE ALL MINORITIES. THEY MUST CONTROL THEM.
THEY HATE AND FEAR WOMEN AND MUST CONTROL THEM.
THEY PLAN TO IMPOSE THEIR TRIBAL RELIGION ON EVERYONE ELSE.
THEY USE THEIR RELIGION TO JUSTIFY A FASCIST AGENDA.
THAT AGENDA IS SPELLED OUT IN THEIR MANIFESTO: PROJECT 2025.
THEY HAVE ALREADY IMPOSED NEW LAWS AND COURT RULINGS BASED ON THEIR RELIGION, IN CONTRADICTION TO THE CONSTITUTION.
THEY ARE TAKING CONTROL OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS - REAL SCIENCE, REAL HISTORY, REAL CIVICS AND SOCIAL STUDIES CANNOT BE TAUGHT IN 'RED' STATES.
THEY ARE DESTROYING THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM THAT MADE THE UNITED STATES THE PRIMARY BUSINESS, INDUSTRIAL, AND MILITARY NATION ON EARTH.

      REAL AMERICANS BELIEVE IN HONESTY.
WE BELIEVE IN INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONALISM.
WE BELIEVE IN EQUALITY, EDUCATION, SCIENCE, PROGRESS & DEMOCRACY.
WE SUPPORT CIVIL RIGHTS, HUMAN RIGHTS, & HUMAN DIGNITY - NOT CHAOS & HATE.
WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN, SUPPORT, OR CONDONE CORPORATE AUTOCRACY -- RACISM -- MISOGYNY -- FASCIST RELIGIOUS DOMINATION.
THIS IS NOT 1957. THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW --- THE 21ST CENTURY.
WE WILL FIGHT THE DARKNESS OF IGNORANCE, RACISM, MALE DOMINATION AND RELIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENT & DOMINATION.
MINNESOTA RULES: MIND YOUR OWN DAMN BUSINESS.
WE NEED RATIONAL DEMOCRACY, NOT A CORPORATE-THEOCRATIC AUTOCRACY.
NO FASCISM. NO RELIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENT. NO CORPORATE AUTOCRACY.
FREEDOM --- FROM FASCISM, FROM AUTOCRACY, FROM RELIGIOUS DESPOTISM --- IS THE AMERICAN WAY.

They feel entitled to a life they don't have and, whilst many people see that their life is not what they want it to be and start to implement changes to fix that problem, these people, in their sense of entitlement, seek to blame others for THEIR problems and unhappiness, rather than actually be active in fixing their lives and making them happier. It's easier to point and blame than it is to look inward and start making the changes to improve your life.

First, most appear to be grifters and free loaders. They show up at a neighborhood cookout with a dish of apple slices, and proceed to stuff themselves with BBQ and chug a lug beer brought by others. When they were co workers, they were people you could never really trust. You always had the feeling they were waiting for the opportunity to stab you in the back. Just about all were very disingenuous. Most were also undependable. They were the kind of people that could sniff out the possibility that something might be expected of them, and they would always manage to disappear just as they were needed. I have not been surprised by any people I discovered were trump supporters. Most of the time it was "that's just what I figured". And yes, they were grievance collectors and always felt they were being put upon by one group or another. They are out of my life, permanently.

This is something I've wondered for many years about conservatives in general. Their values seem designed to upset them. They don't like change... but they live in a world (a whole universe even) whose primary characteristic is change. They like tradition but no tradition can last, and it's very apparent regarding their religious traditions these days. Their "individualism" makes them want to tend to "me and mine", so they don't want to be bothered by anybody who isn't part of their ingroup. But it's a mutualistic world so we all live inter-dependently with others, whether knowingly or not, because there is no other option. And on and on. So the world doesn't work the way their brains want it to. The days when there was an evolutionary advantage to their sort of brain ended when living in small villages ended. So all that (and more) must be a source of constant frustration. Everyone who isn't like them must seem like an enemy of all that's "good" in their eyes. And so "everything sucks" and it's "everyone else's fault!"

Great comment, and yes, their inability to accept change and adapt as just a natural course of life (you can't stop it after all), makes them just angry and frustrated. Let's face it, what's one of the greatest roads to happiness, or at least contentment? Accepting that things change and life goes on, so just let it go. There is a stubbornness to their mindset that won't allow them to just LET IT GO. Also, many conservative men feel they have been cheated out of something...there is always that 'entitlement'' mindset amongst, particularly, conservative men, who want what their father and grandfather had, but know, deep down, they can never have it.

It's a sad fact that legions of my fellow Americans are so miserable and dejected that they are willing to vote away their rights and their futures in response to gut level hate-and-blame propaganda.

I think unkindness is in their DNA. Actually I think the reason the US doesn’t have all the benefits other countries have is because there is an inherent unkindness in the US. Along with its need to interfere in other countries and yet are actually isolationist by nature who know little or nothing about the countries they mess up.

Low pay, low education. It's appalling that they are Americans and are treated like this. Now, no more overtime pay. It's going to hurt them the most. I'm moving back to my blue state. I can't get help for my mental health or my SSDI housing. Co-pays in mental health and because I make too much money at $12,000ish a year. It's horrible here. It'll get really bad when they cut everything.

I agree with 90% of what your saying outside of they think it's a terrible economy. Ever since Trump won there's been several studies and polls that have suggested the inverse is happening. That Republicans now think the economy is great. This was always about racism and a lot of people have tried to make it about other things. And yes maybe what helped Donald Trump win was the 2-3 percent of voters who were mad about inflation, Gaza war and immigration. But for Republican voters and people who lean Republican it was always about race.

I agree with your assessment of those people. But for me to be complete, one factor also must be discussed:
Since Ronald Reagan, a big part of the former middle class was left behind -- because the lion share of economic growth was going to the billionaires. So when many people are frustrated there is a real reason for that -- but the reason are not the immigrants or the other Fox escape goats.

Having had an abusive stephmother, I take a slightly different take.
These people conflate abuse with support.
They are trained to hate, absolutely.
They are told they're being used, but they will never understand it's the abusers that tell them so.
My dad still worships my stephmother, while she was only in it for herself and ruined my life.
But facts don't matter to these people; they don't see the difference between abuse & support.
They think orange muzzelini is their light & saviour, while in reality he's only in it for himself, ready to abuse the USA for his own, perverse desires.

The other part of the equation is fear. They're terrified of anything different or that they don't understand (and a distinct lack of intellectual curiosity means there's a hell of a lot that fits in that category). In turn, that fear turns into hate. And yeah, it's impossible to reach someone whose intent on never being reached.

We lived in VT since 72, mostly in Stowe. In 2022 we moved to a rural town near the Connecticut River and NH. So it feels more like NH at times. Just about everyone is a Trump supporter. As time goes on those folks are miserable or angry mist of the time. Depressing for such a beautiful state.
