Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They do the bass solo to guitar solo to drum solo on Onset Live found on their Chanel. The Bass, Drummer and lead guitarist are phenomenal musicians. But the drummer gets the least amount of solos but you can hear her loud and clear on every song.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this very performance as one of over 8,000 people at the venue on Nov.26, last year. Very exciting 3-hour-40-minute-long show with 33-song setlist. (Happy fatigue thereafter 😄)
Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Just so you know, I love BABYMETAL, too.
First of all, Band-Maid isn't a metal band. Their sound is diverse, layered, almost symphonic in composition and complexity, often blending multiple genres into a song, and yet is uniquely Band-Maid. Band-Maid has a way of stirring the emotions in ways Rachmaninov was able to in the world of classical music. I suggest checking out Mindset by Gacharic Spin. It's a fun song. Gives off a totally different vibe.Perhaps they'll be more to your liking. Cheers!

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

@@ShineboxxReacts Akane is a very capable drummer, and had already been playing with the bassist a few years, before joining Band-maid. These girls hardly overdo things. They play just what's needed and not more. For a Hard-rock band she still is very active with the double pedals. Which sometimes makes it hard to place them musically.
Um a few things;
You may want to listen again, although her role is technically in support of the "Conversation / Duel" leading into it, during it and after it, she's beating the sh*t out of her kit like a Guard in a Turkish prison on an American tourist in the 70's.

Most Band-Maid live songs are better than the studio versions. Band-Maid doesn't really have bad songs, you pretty much can pick one at random and enjoy it!. You should also check out Lovebites. Holy War is a good song to start with them.
It's so weird, I would never recommend one of my favorite Japanese rock bands, be it Band-Maid, Nemophila or Unlucky Morpheus to someone who usually listens to BabyMetal, just for the fact that they are both Japanese bands.
It's like if I recommend Bruce Springsteen to a Taylor Swift fan, what chance is there that they'll truly understand or appreciate my recommendation... it's so weird. 😐
If there is anything to know about me, is that my music taste is very diverse. I may listen to a lot of heavier metal genres full time but I like rock bands as well! Not every metal head is a closed minded elitist. I was raised on everything from rock to metal to even mainstream pop. The only genres I refuse to touch is Country, Kpop, and modern mindless pop music. Otherwise I can extremely diverse is music! 🤘
I think it is fine. Its something special with Japanese female rock and metal. Its music, without being bad and filthy and tattooed or doing ugly growling. Its uplifting. And they are soo good. I mean, even when doing growling they smile. They are generally more interested in that it shall sond good than that they shall play fast. I think it works to just recommend female Japanese metal and rock bands.
But, on the other hand. Babymetal is a special case. Its an idol sing and dance group with a metal backing band. I really like it, but e.g. BAND-MAID is the real thing. It is a music group. A music group they have formed themselves. And they write their own music and lyrics and plan their own scene performances. Someone else is writing music for Babymetal and doing the choreography.
Just to show how versatile Japanese female performers are, take a look at ATARAHI GAKKO. Its sing and dance, but they are very good.

Uh, what do you mean by "K-Rock", or "K-Pop"? There's a huge variety in that - even with the same artists.
The drummer was literally playing better than most drummers, including double bass throughout the guitar battle.
