Although knowing this song, I hadn’t really listened to its lyrics before. Ms Jones’ signing and singing for some reason focused me on them. What a well constructed, meaningful and beautiful song. Hats off to Joni Mitchell and, indeed, to Ms Jones.
I watched it twice when it came to the movie theatres right at the beginning, in Gloucester, Massachusetts where it was filmed and where the story takes place. I lived there for 36 years, everything you see is real, no Hollywood backdrops at all. A magnificent place and a wonderful movie.
@@lauramitchell6725 CODA is the name of the film. It came out in 2021 (I haven’t seen it yet either. But it just bumped up to the top of my list of must-see movies!)
I saw the BAFTA rendition and it was great. However, the original is still the best for me. That connection she made to her parents while auditioning was superb! Bridging the gap indeed! Always makes me cry! 😭😭
This was a great movie! Ive always loved this song. Brings back childhood memories and watching this version brought me to tears. I'm a puddle, sobbing!
I always find myself with a lump in my throat whenever i see this clip. I'VE WATCHED THIS CLIP A HUNDRED TIMES! WOOOW! Amazing you can convey love in so many ways and yet you find yourself not knowing what to say when you're in there.
This was the perfect choice of music for this place in the film. Great arrangement, great piano part, and Emilia Jones was magnificent. Well deserved Oscar movie of the year. Kudos!
@@AnneretteStrydom-tk1rp CODA (stands for Children of Deaf Adults). The movie won best picture, and best actor went to Troy Kotsur, who is actually deaf, as are Marlee Matlin and Daniel Durant, who played the brother.
What a wonderful cover of this iconic Joni Mitchell anthem. Beautifully performed. (& I definitely need to check out this movie!). Thanks for posting!!
This message is like throw a rock in a lake, but i want to left it here. I loved some women, but i truly and deeply love one that i lost to a terrible disesase. This was true love i was with her until the last second. Im lucky that i knew true love and i miss her. I don't know why this movie and this song remember this, but i want to say: don't be afraid to love!
I can see how much Emilia looks like her father, the Welsh singer, Aled Jones, and I can also hear that she has inherited his musical talent! I'd love to see this movie! ❤
I have no idea about the movie this is apparently from, but the way the singer incorporates sign language into her performance reminds me of my mother, who learned sign language (not because she's Deaf) when I was little, and her instructors suggested that their students practice by signing along to songs. 😻
Thank you for posting this. I had seen this film some time ago on streaming channels and had actually forgotten the name. But I've been in a Joni Mitchell mood tonight and this appeared on my feed. I absolutely love this film! I teared up watching it and I just teared up watching this song, that you posted in its entirety. I didn't know other people had posted a chopped up version. There's a reason The film closed this way. How beautiful. THANK YOU ❤
Wish you could go back to when she walked in without her music and her teacher stepped up. I like when he hits wrong key to get her attention to go for it.
That was a good part too Ray. However, if you haven't seen the movie, you wouldn't understand the look Mr V gave her (referencing back to when they were in Mr. V's house and how he got her to make a "primal" noise). He said to her at that time; "Make the ugliest, grossest sound you can" in an attempt to get her to project her voice. That's why the scene you're referencing means so much to us.
CODA. (Child of deaf adults). It won the 2021 Best Picture Oscar. I think it's only available on Apple TV and is the first movie from a streaming service to win the Oscar.
Sorry Chet K, it is the song itself from start to finish. Most of the other TH-cam videos on this song cut off the last few seconds. For most of us, that was a bit frustrating. If you actually watched the movie (CODA), you would have seen that there was no judges reaction(s) to Ruby's performance (played by Emilia Jones). This wasn't American Idol.
@@AerialDronePhotography yeah, I guess the movie Coda is only on Apple TV, I don't use apple products, don't have apple tv etc,, so I am unable to watch the movie
I've just seen this for the first time and after two decades without crying I find myself in floods. This has been truly cathartic.

So naturally beautiful. No gimmick or vocal manipulation. And so inspirational.

This was a very good movie. And a song that never fails to punch me in the gut. She did amazing job. Joni should be proud.

Same for me so far.

Original.....Joni Mitchell?
The best rendition I've ever heard. So emotional.
And -- thank you for finishing the song! It's an outrage to cut something so beautiful off before the end.
I appreciate that @jdrosborough. I feel exactly the same.
A song I've always held close to my heart. Hearing her rendition brought it to my soul.

There are some things I prefer about the original and some things I prefer about this one. They’re different.
If Emilia doesn't get cast as the voice of a Disney princess, something is wrong in the universe.
