I always viewed this track as a classical variation of Love Like Blood, just like Rachmaninoff, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms repeated material in an altered form. Yes, Love Like Blood is so good it doesn't bother me that it's repeated twice on the same album.
Now yoou mention it, it does have a simular bass strumming pattern, it still sounds great though, the last 2 songs Europe and Eighties are my favourites off side 2.
This is not a proper comment. (But never mind, it's invisible.) Down Down Not Rock Lobster. It's the only song every written that's literally about a *Smashed Middle Finger* (by the solo version of *Robert Pollard* - i.e. not officially GBV or Circus Devils or Ricked Wicky or Boston Spaceships or various other guises). It's not his best ever, but it's not his worst ever, either. And I mean ... it's about a smashed middle finger th-cam.com/video/zPG99nCdRMc/w-d-xo.html
Yep, "Multitudes" is a sort of carbon copy of "Love Like Blood", and given that I don't like either of them, that's a bit of a problem for me!😉 No, it won't rival their first four albums.

You need to listen to their BEST song "Millennium" from their "Pandemonium" album.
Possibly my favorite Killing Joke track.
JP, thanks again for listening to Killing Joke!! (You picked the wrong album…. But that’s ok - all good 🙂)
Anytime 🤣
