Through 10 musical pieces, Gabriel Bismut composed the soundtrack of his own imaginary film.
This film is at the same time sad, cheerful, melancholic, joyful, nostalgic and visionary. It deals with the human soul, its aspirations and contradictions.
The choice of the piano as the main instrument is essential as this instrument can play all roles and convey all emotions. The cello, whose timbre blends so well with that of the piano, nourishes the music with its varnish.
These compositions borrow from Frédéric Chopin his romanticism, from Éric Satie his insouciance, from Philip Glass his minimalist counterpoint, from Sofiane Pamart his melodic freshness. This accessible work emphasizes that music is the language of emotion, its codification.
“The reason why I love film scores, and the reason why they have influenced me so much, is that films give the music a medium to 'incarnate'. In itself music is an abstract entity, and digging into abstraction often gives birth to something too theoretical. I like this idea that music should be "at the service" of something else. At present, I believe that my music is often at the service of my feelings, composing is something that helps me to express myself internally, but when I happen to put it at the service of feelings, creations of others, sharing emotions offers new perspectives.”
