Worked with the guys back in the day at The Roadmender... proper, proper gents.... made sure even the "lowest" of the staff got to hang out as peers and have fun... so few bands do that even now.
That's really good to know. It's always a bit disappointing when you like the music of a band and find out they're arrogant tossers in person. One of the things about OCS is that they just *look* like they'd be regular guys and not snooty pricks. You also kind of know they must be good blokes because Weller has no time for arrogant pricks. The fact that he not only likes them but has long had several of them in his band is a ringing endorsement of them as people as well as musos. They did a great version of this number a few years later at the Ronnie Lane Memorial too. Cradock, of course, is very highly rated as a guitarist, but I also think Fowler is one of the best rock vocalists and frontmen of the last few decades.
Great cover of one of my favourite Small Faces songs, the drummer nailed it, brilliant. Funny how all the Mod revival lads want to be Steve Marriott eh. What an influence & legacy they left behind.
I liked a lot of Small Faces stuff, but my favourite three were this, 'Tin Soldier' and 'Afterglow of Your Love'. I reckon OCS could make a great job of 'Afterglow' and it would be nice to see them singing 'Tin Soldier' with P.P. Arnold.
What year is this? The reason I ask is that Simon F's whole appearance has changed from what it was at the time of 'Moseley Shoals' and before and the following few years - different type of clothes, his hair is a wee bit longer and a bit tousled, and even more of a sparkle in the eyes, and moving round more on stage (he just looks really happy). Perhaps more relaxed in life in general. He actually looks younger here than in 1996, though by this time he must have been mid 30s, as he was 31 when OCS finally broke into the big time in '96. I assume this performance is a year or two after his 'outing' in 'The Sun' gutter press and this is at least part of why he seems less tense and just very relaxed and happy. Good for him.
I dont understand how such great British music never broke over here in the States. These boys should have broken loose here.
