Thanks for visiting the Freshcutky organic gardening channel. In the garden, I will answer some of the most common "gardening for beginners" type questions I get, including growing flowers from seed. Growing greens, growing flowers, and planting beautiful organic food is something I'm really passionate about. Thank you for joining me as I learn to grow flowers, cut flowers, vegetables, and much more. Freshcutky youtube channel and related media are for entertainment purposes only.
Many ornamental flowers and cut flowers are TOXIC. ALWAYS do your own research and take responsibility for the plants that you introduce around your kids, pets, and everyone else. Use common sense when handling plant materials: wear gloves, always wash hands, avoid contact with face, etc. NEVER consume any plant which has not been positively identified with complete certainty to be safe and edible. Before planting anything, research to determine whether specific flowers are considered invasive where you live or if there are laws that apply to their planting in your area.

I have a couple of carnation plants that I recently moved from a pot back to the raised bed where I started them... I had no idea they were biennial when I planted them (would have been helpful).. I almost cut them back because they weren't flowering!! 🤦🏾😅
It was a mixed seed packet, so now I have one very good sized coral colored plant and a pretty deep purple one! 😁

I liked how you talked about both the dianthus and carnations. I had been confused for a little while about how they are different. This was very helpful. Thank you.

Wow, that's such a gorgeous coral color! I bought red rockin' dianthus at my local Kroger this year. Little 4" pots. They're growing beautifully. The tag says perennial so I hope to see them back next year.

Girl, you have such a green thumb. These are so pretty. I bought a couple of 6 packs of the Annual Dianthus last year. I dead headed them once last year. They were pretty. They came back this year on their own. I didn't know they would come back a second year. I dead headed them this year and they are making a second flush along with my Panseys! I cut them back too and are doing great. The problem with cutting back Pansey is you have to be brave and cut them back when they are the prettiest 🤧. Love your videos!!

Great info. I love watching your videos and learning, you have lots of great knowledge that I'll be applying to my cut flower garden. I'm lucky enough that carnations are a perennial in my garden in Melbourne Australia. I grew them last year but never planted them out so hopefully this coming summer I can have some lovely blooms 😊

Good to know about the carnations, I grew those from seed and they aren't looking that great. I'm in zone 7 probably b, still can't get use to that, would be much easier if it s or n. Hopefully they'll do something before Sept. And again the most beautiful bouquet at the end, really like how you've been showing them laying out then show the bouquet at the end.

Should have watched this 2 months ago. It's April and my plants have just sprouted. If they can handle the heat of summer they should bloom next year?

Beautiful! I grew carnations last fall here in NW & they survived this years historical snow event! Only problem is the leaves are getting eaten by something! I put slug repellent, still happening though. Do you have any idea who could be eating them? I don’t have any bunnies or deer coming to my garden.

I'm going to try growing carnations in zone 6a this coming year and am hoping to get a good start. There is a grower, Zoe Woodward, in the UK (basically zone 9a) who suggests that they are very particular about germinating temperatures :66-72F, but like cooler temperatures to grow/branch.

I have grown carnations from seeds for 5 years. It was tough. First 2 years they looked straggly and not vigorous. Next year, i winter sowed more, and moved to the opposite side of the garden. They grew fantastic all summer, but just greenery. I put about 10 tiny winter sowed clumps, about 6 inches apart. They grew into a huge clump, stayed green all winter in Ohio, and bloomed big time the next summer.

Your dianthus are so perfect. I have some in a raised bed. Do you think they will be ok if put them in the landscape in clay soil? I think I'm going to cut them so I won't worry with them going to seed.

Wow! Thanks for those very important tips you shared. I have a question which I hope you will reply.
I lived in Tifton Georgia and I failed many times in growing Carnation because I usually sow the seeds on Spring.
My question is what is the best time for me to start sowing the seeds?
Can carnation survived seeing winter even it is planted outside?
    Please answer me.

I always plant dianthus in full sun, so I'm not sure how well they would grow in part sun. I buy my seeds from the GeoSeed catalog. Thank you for watching! 🌱🌱🌱

Great video! Love the coral sweet William ❤️❤️!
One question, I am growing carnation for the first time. Do they branch? Should I be pinching them at a certain height? I am so excited to watch them bloom! 🤞🏻 Thanks for inspiring me!!

    • @TONYAwiththeflowers
      @TONYAwiththeflowers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I didn't pinch mine and they produced small sprays. I might try pinching them next year to see what happens. I'm still very new to successfully growing carnations. 🌱🌱🌱

I’ve tried to grow dianthus twice and twice the buds have struggled to open and flower, just go brown on the stem!? I don’t know whether my conditions have been too wet or too dry but I’m in England so it just never gets that hot n dry here🤔🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t know, really really annoying so if anybody can point me in the right direction I’ll be very greteful🙏🏼 thank you
