People tend to think this particular Gat has been composed by Vilayat Khan himself. This is not entirely correct. The gat's progenitor is Haafiz Ali Khan who taught this to a young Vilayat. Amjad Ali Khan plays the same gat albeit with a different treatment. Vilayat Khan never acknowledged this. It however takes nothing away from the performance. Amjad Ali's unfolding of Gara usually is through the Pilu Jungla/Zila Kafi route while this is a standalone interpretation of Gara.
This gat was composed by Ustad Sakha Ahmad Khan of Shahjahanpur gharana. It was played on strode and a very old LP of that still exists. It is not Hafiz Ali Khan’s.
@@ambindia This might be correct, too. After all, ustad Niamatullah Khan and Sakha Ahmad Khan were kinsmen. The point is that Ustad Vilayat Khan often played their gats without acknowledging their work.

This is Gara, authentic, perfect with no relation with UHAK. Pancham se gara, made popular by RS, used in film music and played by AAK dwell on thumri ang.
My humble request is that..the entire side of the original LP record be uploaded..After all it is an extremely authentic presentation of the Raga Gaara. The Aalaap played by Khan Sahab explains the raga so well, which was introduced by the Master Wajid Ali Shah Nawab of Awadh. Also Khan Sahab played a short piece of Gaara in a another LP played from the pancham ( Pancham Se Gaara) , a thumree on which "Mohe Panghat Pe Nandlal Ched Gayo Re" set to music by Naushad Sahab in the Film , " Mughal E Aazam " later ..... Incidentally.. the Chaiti Dhun in the LP ( Vilayat-Bismillah playing Gujari Todi, Bhairavi and the Chaiti) , is also in Gaara... This was told to me by his brother Imrat Khna Sahab PADMAKAR. K

@@ajr1247 I am told by the present khalifa of that style that the gat was composed by Ud. Karam Khan, cousin of Ud.Niamatullah

Imdadkhani Gharana is not a very old Gharana so they often play Gats from other Older Gharana
