I love the fact that Travis's character instead of brushing his son off (because there's a dead body) he still manages to play the part with him. It paints the character to be very normal and shows that he has a life outside of his work and that breaks my heart because despite every cute/sweet moments like this it's going to get worse. It's a ticking time bomb of emotional damage.
it also kind of shows that he's level 14 for a reason. He is absolutely unfazed about murdering some creepy bloke for just being there and (mostly) invisible, and more than willing to jump into lighthearted RP with his son before the body's even gone cold.
@@AnInsaneOstrich I got that feeling, too. He’s so used to this cloak-and-dagger stuff that, even when it’s seriously freaky, he’s able to take it with aplomb.
Honestly I’m surprised this scene has never showed up in any noir that I know about, like a dude leaning over a body all serious then he gets a phone call from his kid 😂
I love and hate these cute moments; it's wonderful RPG, but every moment of cuteness is going to be a new needle for Brennan to twist into our souls when doom finally falls upon Avalir...
Spoiler: Coming back to this to say -- did anyone else notice that when asked where the evidence locker was, his son says that it was under his bed and quickly changed his mind and say it wasn't there and nothing was under his bed and to not worry about it. Well I guess Brennan knew what he was doing because I realized that later when Cerrit is going through his house for the last time -- he saw the replica tomahawks Cerrit used under his son's bed. LITERALLY CRYING MY EYES OUT! Brennan, you absolute genius.
When the end is clear, Cerrit won't be fighting to save the world or even the city, he'll be fighting to get to Kir to save him. Its also tragic that this has set up that his family aren't in one place so he can't get to all of them at once.
Oh, Christ, if he only has time to save one and he has to go either home or the lab where his wife is or some unknown third location, I will fucking die
This is that makes me really like Brennan's DMing style. Beyond wacky comedy, always put the character's emotional core to the centre of the story. I love that.
As good as Matt is (one of the greatest worldbuilders in the industry), this is Brennan playing in his own wheelhouse to deliver quite possibly the most adorable (and given the context of ExU:C, tragic) moment in the history of Critical Role though the sudden tone shift to catch audience and player off-guard
No, 'over' means the end of a specific message, giving pause for the other person to respond. It's to avoid cutting each other off with held-switch devices like C.B.s and Walkie-Talkies. When the conversation is done you're supposed to say 'over and out' though it does get shortened sometimes.
Not trying to assert definitively one way or another, but so far as I've seen there is some threading that indicates it's *possible* that instead of full-blown Pompei-style everyone dies, what's going to happen is that the entire city of crowns is going to be plane-shifted completely to a different plane of existence. The groundwork has been lain by the second episode, and it's not without precedent. Matt has a pattern of that kind of thing. The Elven city that is anchored in the Feywild, Aeor ending up in the Astral Sea. And it's a good Forgotten Realms homage with how important Netheril (an ancient empire of unprecedented and unrivaled magic) is to that setting's lore and how the Netherese flying enclave of Thultanthar "escaped" their apocalypse event (triggered by a mortal trying to take the place of the goddess of magic, thus destroying The Weave) by shifting to the Shadowplane.
@@paolobera Interesting tidbit! I like it! Thanks for pointing it out. :) Though, the comparison still holds in the aspect that I was thinking of it; where bad thing happens, the city is still there, and the people that were still there were got by the bad thing. Not quite the same timeline of events, now that I know, but still same effect. :D
@@minionofgruumsh Of course, and i think that the mortality in a city full of mages would be less than 10% even in a Titanic scenario in which the city fell unexpectedly. So of course the culture is gone, but like the ancient romans when the empire fell, people survived anyway.

I really appreciated this scene. It was a sudden break from the misery and dread of the mystery that the party had been unfolding. Every action film needs scenes of rest, and every tragedy needs a sprinkling of comedy.
The only thing Matt Mercer has on Brenan is his never ending supply of voices he can pull from. Other than that one thing, story wise Matt has some competition for best dm. Brenan is killing it HARD
Brennan’s not too shabby on the voices either. I actually think they are both in a league of their own - no other DMs I’ve seen have the mix of writing, acting, humor, worldbuilding, and encounter creation. There are plenty of great DMs out there, but those two are tops.

It's 20 years from now, Campaign 7. Exandria has reached a late 1880s industrial age. Matt describes a badass gunslinger/samurai sitting alone in a train car. The group sit next to him and Matt says, "Ronin could you introduce your character?"
