The main reason why Sung jin woo was chosen was because of his persistence to survive in the face of death.
Meaning that he was the only one who was closest to death due to the fact that he was the weakest.

No Jinwoo had his own kid who inherited part of his power and he made a system for him as well. Jinwoo's father was NOT the original Ashborn! His original father was trapped for years and saved by another faction opposite to the invaders.

I realized that solo leveling is the only manwha that showed how and why their mc got the system unlike other manwhas that give their mc a system and doesn’t explain.
Can't say i remember any but Solo leveling is definitely not the only one that did it considering how overdone system manhwas/manhuas/mangas are now

not really. the vast majority of them explain it, it's just not explained until the end where solo leveling explains it kind of in the 3rd quarter.
See, in the novel he is the shadow monarch. Its not that he's a successor but that he's kind like a pseudo reincarnation of him. The architect wanted jin to be consumed by his power and go back to his old self, but Instead he merged with his old self and gains his old memories while still being jin woo. At least, that's how I remember it

Not really, i just reread it and what i understand is that they were 2 different people and ashborne decided to give all his powers to jin woo because ashborne was tired/didnt wan to fight anymore(you can kind of say he's a sucessor) instead of reincarnation

They did do justice of it. They just didn't show the epilogue chapters. I saw on the manhwa I was reading it from that they're gonna make the chapters for those epilogue but the due date has passed and I don't think they will do it anymore since the one who makes the illustration died
manhwa ending is so rushed. They could have added ten or more chapters to show his journey afterward.

You didn't answer the question, the reason Jin woo was chosen is because he was a person who was always close to his death because he was just so weak, you could say since very young he had this weird connection to death, and that's why the ruler of the shadows/death Asborn chose him
If I remember correctly ashborn said that these was the 100 something time he has seeing him die but has never interfere to save him except that one time

Ashborn was originally just looking for a vessel he could take over like the other monarchs because he and the dragon king both were too powerful to just pick anybody. Before Jinwoo got the system Ashborn was watching him and his constant struggle as the weakest E-rank to stay alive always skirting the edge of death and persisting. Then after Jinwoo got the system and Ashborn watched him grow he came to like Jinwoo. The second time Jinwoo went to the Cartenon temple was supposed to be when Ashborn took control of the body but instead Jinwoo just saw part of Ashborn’s past which is why the Architect freaked the fuck out when he realized it was Jinwoo in control of the body, plus Jinwoo got the black heart and the black heart was Ashborn’s way of making sure Jinwoo would actually become his successor or cementing the fact that Jinwoo was going to be his successor. So it seems that was when Ashborn really made his choice to have Jinwoo be an actual successor rather than just be a vessel.
Then, when Jinwoo died to the Beast and Frost Monarch, Ashborn gave him the choice to either stay in the death realm or go back. And by choosing to go back Jinwoo *really* became the shadow monarch, and it’s semi-implied it’s because Ashborn went into the eternal slumber that Jinwoo could fully take the mantle which is what lead to the Beast Monarch running away. And the phrasing of the scene where Jinwoo chooses (at least in the manhwa) almost implies that if Jinwoo had chosen to stay in the death realm Ashborn would have taken control of the body, not that it would have mattered too much since Jinwoo and Ashborn became “the same person” according to Ashborn. Ashborn even goes as far as to say that, “No matter who controls the body it won’t be strange because I am you, and you are me.” And Jinwoo doesn’t deny the statement and even says, “I know, I’m you after all.” when Ashborn is about to tell him how to return to life.
Because Jinwoo said to the face of Death: "NOT TODAY!"😎

He couldn't handle that challenge, so he wanted a successor capable of rising to the occasion. He conquered death... He deserved to be chosen by Ashborn. As what the other rulers said, he is ashborn and ashborn is him. Their souls are one as a monarch.

Ashborn power is just that, death and controlling them. He needed the system to increase JinWoo strength so he could withstand it. They already tried it on other people but they died when gifted with Ashborn power. So the system was develop. They explain this toward the end.
Im pretty sure they explained how they had the same soul linking them and how ashborn was actually him all along but was gaining back his powers after being defeated th first time. It says they were one all along.

S is kinda weird for me, because when I originally read this as a novel, it was my first ever light novel. It seemed so long at over 200 chapters, but over the past 5 years I've read tens of thousands of chapters, maybe close to a total of 70 or 80k, which I know is a lot but I read about a chapter in about 3-6 minutes, depending on the length. Just for some rough math, if I read for 8 hours a day, every day for 5 years, I could've read 146k chapters, and that's assuming that each chapter toom me 6 minutes on average, so I didn't actually read that much, but much more than most, at about 4 hours a day. The 3 longest of them that I've read to are ~ ch900 -the legendary mechanic; ch1100- reincarnated as an energy with a system; and ch800- lightning is the only way. Now it seems like a short story in comparison. I know I'm around the 500s for trash of the counts family as well. In total, I read a fuck ton and this was long and feels short In comparison.
