Well, remember what Japan endured in 1945. The fire bombing of Tokyo, the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the deaths of over 300000 people.
Japan is in their own league. They were hit with one of the biggest earthquakes in the world and yet their buildings were taking it like a champ. *On a whole another level*
Scary thing is that Tokyo was not even a center of this earthquake. “Tohoku” which is northeast region were more huge earthquakes shakes AND hitting Tsunami after this.
I was working in Yokohama during this earthquake. I was on the fourth floor of a rather old building, and the shaking was incredible. I was stuck at work for several hours because the trains stopped running. I remember multiple aftershocks for many days, some of which would be considered large earthquakes on their own. You could not call anyone on your cell phone, nor could you text. The whole system was overwhelmed. Luckily, data still worked, and I could post on Facebook (I had an iphone at this time) that I was fine. What's going on right now with the COVID-19 pandemic is kind of similar, but in a much slower, drawn out manner. The feeling of uncertainty is the same.
Glad to know you're fluent in Japanese. Do you know the name of the J-Pop group singing at 17:42? Ever since I watched that particular part of the video; I have wondered what is the name of the song and the group that sings it.
I have never experienced that yet the ground was really shaking a lot and for a long time the buildings there can really handle that type of movement is really impressive
I've watched countless videos from this day, and they always unsettle me. For me to feel frightened from so many miles and years away, I can only imagine how terrible it must have been for the Japanese in Tokyo on March 11, 2011.
I remember the news of this earthquake, it was so heartbreaking, even for someone like me thousands of miles away (I'm Australian). Even though the damage in Tokyo wasn't too devastating, in retrospect watching this footage is genuinely chilling, knowing what death and destruction was occurring to the north. And it must have been horrific for people trying to get through to their relatives in those first hours, with the uncertainty of just how bad it was and where the worst hit places were.
lately japanese news are full of news about mega quake that might(hoping it wont) happen in the vey near future... hope australia be back to normal too with all the bushfires happening everywhere🙏🙏🙏
Japan is on top when its about recovering from earthquake or other disaster. their country is so strong in recovering themselves. tsunami and earthquakes are pretty common thing to them.
Ash Ashtree If you think that the recovering in Tohoku Area are slow ? You are right in one point and you are wrong in many. Recovering are slowing because of Fukushima Power Plant. I don’t know if you know about great earthquake in Kansai 24 years ago? Recovering is so fast in Kansai Area because there’s no like Fukushima. And most of Fukushima people are starting living their life all over Japan. Most of them don’t want to go back. That’s the problem.
You are never prepared for an earthquake! Been trough a few myself. One of the most terrifying aspects is when it seems that is never going to stop. keeps going on and on.Even on Japan, they know what they can handle but they always show respect, Nothing is taken for granted
I wonder if it's really safer in the street. Japanese buildings are built pretty strongly earthquake resistant, so the structures are unlikely to crumble. But there could easily be windows popping out and similar things falling off. Lot of these buildings look pretty high. A plate of glass falling 10 stories is extremely dangerous.
I was sleeping in the afternoon time was 2:30 pm and I woke up by the shaking, and I realized it wasn’t stop...so I run outside the building We’re I live...and still continue shaking outside...and only me and two neighbors went out...and I only came back inside till shaking stop...and that day was a long day of non stop shaking.

This in my opinion is really scary because all you can do is just like wait for it to be over

14:30 - "All Tokyo Metro operations were suspended at approximately 2:48pm due to an earthquake."
Gosh...how calm...no one is running. That's really something to learn.
I've watched countless videos from this day, and they always unsettle me. For me to feel frightened from so many miles and years away, I can only imagine how terrible it must have been for the Japanese in Tokyo on March 11, 2011.
wow this guy just stood around filming while everyone else was screaming and anxious. Savage
Scared, but so cool ! What an example of how people must act in a crisis... great people, great country !
It's crazy how calm and organized they are !
Japan is on top when its about recovering from earthquake or other disaster. their country is so strong in recovering themselves. tsunami and earthquakes are pretty common thing to them.

If you think that the recovering in Tohoku Area are slow ? You are right in one point and you are wrong in many.
Recovering are slowing because of Fukushima Power Plant.
I don’t know if you know about great earthquake in Kansai 24 years ago?
Recovering is so fast in Kansai Area because there’s no like Fukushima.
And most of Fukushima people are starting living their life all over Japan.
Most of them don’t want to go back.
That’s the problem.
They came up with the very word Tsunami
Their streets are cleaner than most of our restaurants.
You are never prepared for an earthquake! Been trough a few myself. One of the most terrifying aspects is when it seems that is never going to stop. keeps going on and on.Even on Japan, they know what they can handle but they always show respect, Nothing is taken for granted
It's a good thing Japan has such strict building codes... in a lot of countries an earthquake like that would have flattened a lot of buidlings.
This video is by far THE BEST coverage of showing the reaction of the people's faces of all walks there... just HAUNTING
Highest respect to the Japanese people.. Best greetings from Germany
At 4:15 the lady In purple was really shaken up. Figuratively not physically.
Oh my they are so calm. I imagine it comes from being touch from early childhood what to do during these events.
