Jon Batiste stands as one of the most extraordinary and prolific musicians in history. His musical journey has been nothing short of remarkable. In 2018, the world recognized his brilliance as he earned a Grammy nomination in the Best American Roots category. But that was just the beginning.
Fast forward to 2020, and Jon Batiste's name was on everyone's lips. He received not one, but two Grammy nominations for his outstanding work on the albums "CHRONOLOGY OF A DREAM: LIVE AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARD" and "MEDITATIONS" (a collaboration with Cory Wong). The accolades didn't stop there. That same year, he clinched an Academy Award for Best Original Score for the Disney/Pixar sensation, "SOUL." This achievement was all the more special because he shared this honor with the accomplished composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
Jon's contributions to "SOUL" didn't go unnoticed, as he added a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, a NAACP Image Award, and a Critic's Choice Award to his ever-growing list of accomplishments. His Oscar win made history, placing him in the esteemed company of legendary jazz musician Herbie Hancock as the second black composer to claim an Academy Award for composition.
Batiste's sonic journey continued with the release of his latest studio album, "WE ARE," in March 2021, which was met with resounding critical acclaim. The album's release was nothing short of a game-changer, as he secured an astonishing eleven Grammy nominations across seven diverse categories - a feat never before witnessed in Grammy history. And to top it off, he walked away with five of those Grammys, including the prestigious Album of the Year award.

Dear Suleika, my deepest thanks to you (& to Jon!) for sharing your life’s journey with us. Through your voice I have started to find my own. Last year I was diagnosed with MDS (low risk). For almost ten years before I seemed to be coming down with all these infections and viruses with an ever-present and debilitating fatigue. I tried to share my fears with my family, but I felt like I was always hitting a stone wall each time. It’s a little bit better now. Your videos have helped me so much to feel less alone in this experience and feeling more agency. I am so thankful that I have been able to be only monitored so far-just mild anemia. My prayers go out to you and Jon for strength, comfort and healing. You are making our world a much better place 🌺

You articulate all these states of being when one is sick so perfectly. Your communication about navigating the many channels one is simultaneously traversing with cancer informant not only the experience of cancer but also so many chronic conditions. The only thing I can add to your experience ia to say you must live in the Everlasting Now.

Thank you for sharing. I too had thyroid problems and diagnosed with mental health problems. It went on for years. Finally it turned into cancer. Long story short just the misdiagnosis took my youth away. We are survivors! That is powerful in itself. Thank you. Thank you.

Same. Our cancer warrior. I have a rare type too. I think she first meant anemia vs leukemia. Im a woman and was also misdiagnosed with anemia, also was put on iron supp, and iron infusions. I had severe pain on the right side of my body, resting rate tachycardia of 180 daily and difficulty breathing. Then, dx w sciatica, IBS, stress, fibro, CRPS, health anxiety, long covid, and panic attacks for 6 months. Also referred to PT where they didnt take me without a MRI thank God. Also told it was all from mild sleep apnea and fitted for a mouth guard. It was actually a 7.5 cm neuroendocrine tumor of the kidney. Bless us all. We need the medical workup:: women, marginalized folks, and elders. Quit the bull shit w this guessing.
