      Not being able to overclock the card or turn the Power limit up is a limitation of the Slim OEM Card. Regular RX 550s can be overclocked. Had an ASUS RX 550 in a Dell Optiplex, (a full size one, not the thin client model) it will still fit in them.

      @mesterak ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrSamadolfo yeah too pricey for the 4GB version especially since there are slightly older and cheaper cards that outperform the RX 550. I noted that looking at the performance hierarchy on the Tech Powerup web site. You’re basically paying $30-$50 more just to have two more gigs of vram.

    Check in afterburner if there is an option that reads as ''Use unofficial overclocking settings'' or ''Extend official Overclocking'' (smh like that it used to read) so you can actually bypass the BIOS restrictions, albeit I don't know if it works on RX 4x0/5x0 series cards. Might be worth a try tho.
    And yes, most OEM cards will be locked to try and make us not to try to overclock them, jokes on them, as we will attempt to anyway, and in most cases still overclock them, albeit with extra steps.

    I picked up a MSI half height RX560 4G back in 2021. No power connector but it is a dual slot dual fan cooler so may not work well in all SFF cases and it's still only 8x PCIe 3 like the RX 550.
    The card worked ok in my HTPC but the performance wasn't as good as I hoped for light 1080p gaming on the TV.
    This was to replace a GTX 750Ti 2GB as the prices for GTX 1050Ti 4GB were even worse and still are.

    Polaris Bios Editor Pro can overclock an RX550. A bit of a slog to test and dial it in but you can add mhz to the core and you'll have to pay for the Pro version. Maybe flashing it with a stock non OEM RX550 bios will enable software overclocking.

    Other low profile single slot cards that cost roughly the same (used) - Radeon Pro WX 4100 has double the performance of rx 550 and rx 6400 more than triple in most apps and games. Quadro p600/p620/p1000 also good line of SFF cards with NVENC and cost from 50 to 100 USD. Quadro t400/t600/t1000 are even better but usually twice more expensive.

    • @SeeJayPlayGames
      @SeeJayPlayGames ปีที่แล้ว +2

      what's better - a WX 3200 or WX 4100? I understand the 3200 is newer but it has fewer compute units... but TechPowerUp rates them about the same... actually the 3200 has a slight edge (in their testing)... which is confusing to me because it only has 640 CU and the 4100 has 1024. There isn't usually THAT much difference in one generation. And does the WX 6400 support VCE or is it just the same hardware as the RX 6400 (so no)?
      I'm trying to find a SSLP GPU to upgrade from my GT 1030 that supports my Freesync monitor, so I'm very interested in the AMD workstation cards.
      Also, they're blue ;) not that I would see it 99.9% of the time.
      If I got one, I'd have to find a mDP->HDMI adapter that supports Freesync (or at least doesn't get in its way), as well. Or should I just go with the RX 6400, use HDMI, and forget about VCE because I already have QSV? Although OBS doesn't seem to like it... or I have it incorrectly configured... IDK.

      @@SeeJayPlayGames WX 4100 chip is RX 560 and WX 3200 is RX 550X Mobile, but WX 4100 power limited to half of TPD. WX 4100 should still be at least bit faster. You can overclock both, but I would go with one that cheaper. I don't have W6400, but there is no hardware encoding mentioned on AMD site, so it must be same chip as RX 6400.

    I own this same card and it overclocks fairly well considering the cooling. At first I was stuck like you unable to change settings when I happened to try an older version of the amd pro drivers and amazingly I was able to overclock! I kept trying different driver versions and no luck. only this one version would let me OC. So it is a driver setting that is locking you down. The way I get around it is to flash a custom BIOS to unlock overclocking with AMDVBFlash using a BIOS I edited with Polaris BIOS Editor. Under Power Play I had to change both the gpu and rmemory max speed from 0 to whatever I want the new limit to be. I usually set 1800 GPU and 2300 Memory for the limits. atikmdag-patcher should be run before flashing the modded bios to allow the drivers to still detect card with modded bios. It is super easy.. I can get mine running around 1375 Core 1950 memory with lots of airflow. If you have any issues let me know as I am quite willing to help in anyway.

    i personally doubt the impact would be that big since it in no way saturates a 3.0 x8 connection. you can usually toggle a setting in the bios to drop a pcie version down or two instead of having to set up an entire system, if time is a constraint
    it's also funny seeing other comments praising the performance of this thing, i remember a couple of years back when i got my yeston cars i was preaching about how it's effectively an easier to find low profile 4gb gtx 750 ti, and people were saying that it was no way possible lol

    Nvidia's option would be an OEM GTX 745 that still supports the latest drivers. Unfortunately it only has GDDR3 4GB... And it's about $20 dollars cheaper.. probably not a decent option, but I can't find anyone testing it.. Great Video!

    Next upgrade for the 3020. I was debating on getting one of these for $60 shipped or just using the RX6400 I have, but the card is going to be heavily underutilized in the system. The 550 is going to lose a little, but not a lot and is going to sit closer the ceiling for the system. I'll save the 6400 for a new SFF build.

    If it's anything like a RX 460, in a nutshell it's barely fast enough to play GTA V. You'd want at least a RX 480/580 to have smooth GTA V. Getting your foot in the door in GTA V, Rainbow Six Siege, probably Apex Legends isn't too bad...but it's much much better on something faster (480/580). But in a low profile system your options are limited, and you probably aren't doing anything intensive. Half-life 2 ran pretty good, but I could see the frame rate dipping a lot, it wouldn't be fun in half life 2 deathmatch online matches. I remember having a RX 460 and having to play with the fan curves and stuff it was a nightmare, and darn did that thing's fan scream.

      The WX2100 is a Workstation version of the Radeon 550, not the Radeon RX550, I know because I have the Radeon 550. Search for "PowerColor AXRX 550 2GBD5-HLEV2" for more information.
      There are two differences:
      - Only 2GB VRAM
      - Memory Bandwidth is halved to 64-bit
      Hence performance is lower than this version of the RX550.
