Crazy, I played strpmania 3.95 way back, maybe a decade and a half when this song first came out and you were a top 10 global player if you could even pass it. Now it's been aaa'ed. Edit: didn't know it was the nerfed ffr version. Still impressive but I bet the sm hard song megapack version will never be aaa'ed
I'll take this one. FFR is a very antiquated engine, so it has a few quirks. One, all arrows in a file are snapped to the nearest whole frame (30 fps) before being loaded into the engine. This can result in some very awkward patterns after conversion. Two, frame-based timing and scoring. This is in line with other games of the period, but more modern games use the raw time interval. You have a 3-frame interval in which to hit a perfect, again at 30 fps. These 3 frames in which an input is registered as a perfect are sometimes called early perfect, amazing, and late perfect. Three, FFR does not have chord cohesion. To hit two, three, or four arrows at a time and have them all be perfect, you can't cheese it. You have to hit them all in that time window. Before the game allowed for keys to be remapped, this made for some awkward situations where hitting too many arrow keys resulted in dropped inputs due to ghosting. Four, and probably most importantly, the existence of boos. If an input is registered and an arrow is not close enough to the receptor for it to count as a hit, you take a slight hit to your score, ruining yet another AAA attempt.
Huge respect for that donation, but that ending had to be one of the most inhuman transitions I've ever seen anyone do, hope I'm not the only one who thinksz it's absurd lmao
