Thanks man, these kind of videos gives me anxiety tbh....If something gets stuck inside one of those channel it basically slowly drown you little miata
Just had a blocked drainage pipe, flooded under the drivers seat, I was told to use the crevice tool on your vacuum cleaner every now and again to keep them clear, I didn't even know I had drainage pipes that needed maintenance, as there is no mention in the hand book I enquired about them being cleaned at services, and was told that it wasn't part of the service, could be a design fault as it seems to happen to some people, l checkouted mx5 forums and it'd happened to a few owners
Hi, my Miata is leaking water in the driver's side as well, probably because of the same reason. We have lots of trees around here. How can I clean it once it is clogged? And how can I keep it from clogging/inspect it to make sure everything is clean?
@@tigerslashii7097 I'd check out the videos on you tube, plenty of help on here, you have to take the sill off and the panel behind the drivers seat, there's a small hole under the seat belt bracket, you'll need thin wire to poke down the hole and wiggle about, quite tricky, hopefully this will push the blockage out under the car, you can also get to the drains under the car but you need access to a mechanics ramp 🤔 Service manager told me to maintain them by using the crevice tool attached to the vacuum cleaner and vacuum every now and again, but if you live under trees I'd do it ever weekend 👍
@@shugd3 Thanks for the reply, I did a search for it on youtube for cleaning the drainage on the ND model but came up empty. My car is only 6 months old and yeah, there are trees aplenty where I park, so I'm not surprised this bit me so quickly. If you know a video that shows how to clean it well, could you link it? I'm going to have another look myself, best I catch this now before it becomes a chronic problem!
@@tigerslashii7097 my RF is 2 years old, when it happened to me, l booked it in to my dealership, I knew nothing about the drainage system, nothing in the manual, and no one at Mazda explained about it when I bought it, Mazda did it under warranty, the dealership tried to charge me, I called mazda customer service and explained the situation, dealership called, car was ready and no charge, the service manager then showed me where they were and actually said they should be cleaned out as part of a service, he said to use the crevice tool attached to the vacuum cleaner every now and again, I've since made myself a couple of filters to insert, water drains away but no dirt or leaves can go down the drains
I'm about to drive mine in the first snow it has seen. The thought of keeping it in a garage for a long MN winter is more painful than exposing it to the elements.
I’m with you, I got Subaru Outback for rain and snow. The Miata has never seen a snow flake. Never driven on wet roads either. I did get caught in a light rain once for 5 minutes- it was horrible. It’s living in my heated garage till probably April 15 th maybe later. That’s just tue way it works. I love that little car.
2 years old rf, Just had a blocked drainage pipe, flooded in to the cabin under the drivers seat, had to put it in to the dealership to have the carpets removed and the car had to be put on the ramp to access the drains under the car, to clean it, dealership tried to charge me for this , I called mazda customer care, the car is still under warranty so they made sure I wasn't charged, I pointed out that I didn't know I had drainage channels and there is no mention in the drivers handbook or I would have been maintaining them, Service manager said to use the crevice tool attached to your vacuum cleaner every now and again to keep them clear
What would happen if you just block off the problematic drain holes completely and keep water out of the drainage system altogether with hot glue or something. I mean the trunk seems well sealed and separated so that shouldn’t be a problem. 🤔
@@hanumarn7882 It's not that easy. The drain system is an open system - there is no tubing in the upper part. Anything not drained through the collector from the roof seals will overflow into the roof storage compartment. And that one is separated with a cabin via simple plastic panels. The trunk is sealed from the rest of the cabin.
I just cleared my passenger side sink which was clogged, not sure why. After putting a long flexible stick down the sink, it immediately started to drain. Any plans on a video how how you maintain the drains? There must be an easier way as I had to remove several panels to clearly see the sink.
Release the switch during the middle of an open/close operation. The car might beep to complain, but the roof only moves while the switched is activated.
Interesting. The thought and engineering that goes into these unseen details is mind-blowing!
Very helpful. Thank you very much Ryan. Never thought about checking those spots. Ill see mine today. So far no water issues for me.

I used to have condensation too on my rf, checked under the carpet and it was pretty wet.
I don't drive my 21 RF in the rain so maybe in 20 years I'll clean these out 😎

I saved the stock rims and mounted snow tires. To each their own!

How do you clean that bad-boy if you don't have compressed air? It's like a sad episode of McGyver over here in my driveway. (With some cursing)

So in 5 or more years this auto roof mechanics will be dead ey
