My sister had a similar situation as the person who wrote that long paragraph. She said she knew he was a great guy but she just didn't have feelings for him. So now she lives with a pot head who only makes enough money to get by and has no ambitions at all. My sister has a degree in business management and makes good money but she's ready to get married and wants to have kids before she gets much older I think they've been together like 6 years now. He's not interested and wants to just keep things as they are and she's starting to get concerned she's made a mistake and will have to leave him and find a new relationship. The guy's parents own a construction contracting business that is very successful and and wanted to pass it on to the son and retire soon but again he's not interested. The "great guy but I'm not interested in other than friends" also has a degree and is a state trooper who works lots of overtime and also makes good money finally married someone else and has the life she wanted. Life is complicated.
Ack, stories like this are all too common… people mix up genuine love with chemistry/attraction, when all too often, the initial attraction you feel for a person is fleeting (and sometimes even unhealthy, as we are all innately drawn to people who feel familiar, even if we’ve endured childhood trauma from such a person) - I think it’s always a good idea to be friends first, if possible, and those are usually the best relationships. Unfortunately a lot of us learn that lesson in hindsight 😒 If your sister has been in the same relationship for 6 years and he still doesn’t want to get married (and she does!) it’s probably time to jump ship & start over ….
