    Straw Dogs is a great movie. Hoffman's performance is subtle and memorable. It's a slow burn of a film, very measured and deliberate as the tension between the locals and Hoffman builds. The scene which you had to fast forward thru is kind of the point, and to skip it is to not experience the discomfort of the situation, which leads to the finale. It's not a home invasion movie, it's about a pacifist who's pushed into violence by circumstances that unmask the primal nature within his meek exterior.

      Thank you for sharing your insight. I agree with your assessment of the film, I think for me I just did not understand the build up of the tension with the locals over his wife and then for the climax to be over protecting a stranger. But your point of not watching the film through as it was intended definitely makes sense and when I rewatch hopefully I can view from a different perspective.

    Nice haul Eddie! I couldn’t agree more on Staw Dogs. Just shock value without substance. I feel confident you will at least like The Great Beauty, Bound and Lone Star. Looking forward to your reviews. Take care.

      I also don’t like Straw Dogs. Dustin Hoffman was woefully miscast

      Thank you! Yes, The Great Beauty, Bound, and Lone Star all seem like amazing releases. I can’t wait to dive in and discover these films. I appreciate you watching!

    Very nice pickups, Eddie! All enjoyable films. Lone Star was a nice discovery for me a few months back, and Anatomy of a Fall is brilliant. Enjoy!

      Lone Star is a title I haven’t heard too much about so I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it. Looking forward to checking out both very soon.

    In Cold Blood - NIIICE. I rated it an 8/10 the first time i watched it. When I went in for my second viewing, I had to update that rating to a 10/10. Awesome movie! And awesome supplements on that one too, definitely check those out to hear all about the real life history of the case and the movie.

      I’ll definitely check out those supplements. Pumped to watch that one for sure 👌

    Straw Dogs is the best of the bunch. The violence isn't meant to be cathartic like modern films...just ugly. Maybe Dustin Hoffman's best performance. It's very nuanced. It's not about revenge...he might even be the bad guy (who killed the cat?).

      Interesting. I didn’t think of it that way. I may have to give it another watch in the future with a different perspective in mind. Thanks for commenting!

    ThDefinitely need to get To Die For at some point. I got All That Heaven Allows last round. Still need to check it out. Upgraded Bound myself. Fantadtic watch! Also snagged Anatomy of A Fall. Heard great things on it. Nice pickups!

      I think you’ll enjoy To Die For. It’s somewhat of a murder mystery / satire and Nicole Kidman is great.

    Good pick ups! Even though i'm a big Susan George fan "Straw Dogs" was a hard watch for me too in some spots. I only seen it once and I think that was enough.

      I don’t blame you for not feeling the need to give it a second chance. I can see it’s not for everyone, including myself. I may give it another watch at some point but that would be way down the road.

      I usually hold on to movie I don’t like to at least watch them a second time. At that point if I still don’t like it I might sell it.

    Watch Anatomy of a Fall first because it's great and the only one in the stack of stuff you bought that i've actually seen
    Second watch The Great Beauty and tell me if it's good. It sounds like it could be good and it did win an Oscar so how bad can it be. 😆

    • @eddiesfilmsnstuff
      @eddiesfilmsnstuff  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      lol Anatomy of a Fall it is! I’ll watch that one next from the stack. I did not know that about The Great Beauty, now I’m even more excited about it 😬

    Great haul! I’m with you on Straw Dogs. I actually preferred the remake over the original (note I did see the remake years before the original). Find that one a bit overrated (I gave it a low rating also). Have some of the others you listed as well, but still need to see them, lol. Awesome haul, man!

    • @eddiesfilmsnstuff
      @eddiesfilmsnstuff  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I don’t know if I’ll be giving the remake a chance after watching this one. Hope you enjoy the new criterion titles in your collection!

    I haven’t seen Repulsion yet but check Ninth Gate and The Tenant by Polanski, really solid films!
    I also tried to watch his film The Pianist and was very much not impressed. Very overrated in my opinion

      @eddiesfilmsnstuff  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great grabs my man. To die for i enjoyed a lot. All that heaven allows is great, I love Douglas Sirk. I don’t remember liking repulsion too much. I passed on anatomy of a fall. It was pretty good but to me has no rewatch ability.

    The cover for Anatomy of a Fall is so bland, did they make it in a rush, it doesn't do justice to the film at all

    • @michaelmitrane9435
      @michaelmitrane9435 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, the Criterion cover wasn't great. The British blu-ray has an even worse cover. I don't always prefer the original poster art on my releases, but in this case, the theatrical poster artists definitely did a better job.

    • @eddiesfilmsnstuff
      @eddiesfilmsnstuff  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I agree, the cover art could have been better. I haven’t seen the film so maybe the cover suits the film, but I don’t know 🤷🏽‍♂️
