  • What's in Dweezil Zappa's guitar rig these days? To find out, Nick Bowcott heads to The Vogue in Indianapolis to join Dweezil himself for a guitar rig tour. Dweezil is also playing the guitar we repaired in 2017 - check out that video here: • Repairing Dweezil Zapp... . Enjoy!

I love Dweezil. Whenever I see him in the thumbnail of a video I can’t resist clicking on it and listening to his enthusiasm speaking about the guitar.

His guitar tone reminds me of Steve Vai's guitar sound from his 1st album Flexible

+David Allen We will never know, but how would Steve Vai have developed if
there would never have been a FZ.
Frank had a talent to let musicians play beyond their "limits" .
Check interviews with former bandmembers like George Duke, Ruth Underwood,
      the Fowlers etc.

David Allen wasn't Steve Vai one of his guitar instructors when he was a child (on top of playing in Zappa's band)? Interesting childhood to say the least.

Dweezil's like an echo of Frank...... a continuation of genius.
He looks a lot like Frank in his youth :) Much to catch up on, but the Zappa Plays Zappa gig at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore where a statue of Frank was commemorated: "If you want to get laid, go to college. If you want an education, go to a library" was astromaniacal :)
I can only wish for such order and organization in a pedal board. Love his tones.

I remember many people criticized Dweezil in the 90's just because his dad was a genius playing the guitar and writing music and he had to live behind the shadow of his dad and that's not fair..Dweezil has also make a name for himself and he's a great musician and amazingly smart and funny person too like his dad was.

I've heard of Frank when I was 13-14 years old. Didn't really get it, but the name and the fact that he was a great artist stuck with me. But I never really listened to his music, mostly because it was difficult to obtain and it was difficult to know where to start. Then, in 2012 I somehow came across Dweezil. I don't know how and why, but I had downloaded half of the Zappa Plays Zappa DVD from your regular pirate website. I watched it, liked it, bought the double CD, and listened to it all through 2013. And then when Frank's music came out on streaming services, I started listening, and in two years he was my most listened artist. Now his music is regularly in my rotation, and there are just so many albums that I can't really remember detail, so I keep coming back. I've seen Dweezil and the band live 3 times since 2015 when I realized that he was actually playing here in Sweden too. I got a little chat and autographs too. Lots of love for Dweezil and the music he's introduced me to!

Like his father previously did, Dweezil is indirectly re-directing and re-innovating the entire concept of what a live rig could be. Truly amazing and interesting for us tone heads.

"Shut Up and Play yer Guitar" is analog Zappa essentially getting amazing
tone and layers like Dweezil . Dweezil is reverse engineering Franks analog
genius, digitally and with analog pathways too. Nobody else on earth can touch
the musicality and genius of Frank and Dweezil Zappa who can not only write it and
kill it in a studio but perform it live too. Frank and Dweezil will be studied for centuries
to come, like Wagner and Shakespeare in the Century of Rock and Satire.
Opera's are going to be written with their music one day about the 20th Century.

Hi Alonso. That scale can work for many Zappa songs (especially Zappa solos). It's a Lydian scale (Major with a #4) with a flatted 7th. Some call it Super Lydian. In the Key of C it would be: C, D, E, F#, G, A, Bb, C. It's definitely one of my favorite scales. Thanks for watching!

    • @mss11235
      @mss11235 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@sweetwater Zappa was a theory master and tone genius and no one comes close to matching him on combining those two aspects. His Shut Up..., Guitar, and Trance-Fusion albums exemplify this well. Scale-wise his "tricks" that other guitarists can learn from his performances are, yes, utilizing less conventional scale choices as well as avoiding the tonic when soloing, altering scales mid-solo and "owning" it, and varying rhythmic ideas drastically.
As far as scales are concerned, I think Zappa was inspired by Alan Holdsworth's approach to music theory and guitar.
