I love how Greyson connects his personal experience with the Lakota tribe. This is extremely beautiful when Greyson's music and the special scene of Lakota fits together. More than perfect. Always support the best music.
I’m looking through the comments and the majority of what I’m seeing is people praising Greyson for his talent and how he shouldn’t stop making music, and that’s okay. I understand that. But the message of this video runs deeper to me than just his vocals. I was born in Pine Ridge, South Dakota and finally got out when I was 6. I have experienced the pain and anguish that this town carries first hand. The alcoholism and the violence, the poverty and the neglect. But I have had the privilege to be surrounded by my own Lakota culture this town carries on. This will always be my home and seeing it finally get some recognition makes me so happy.
I live in south dakota and honestly I just found this song and it's so true, the reservations here have a lot of hurt and violence and alcoholic people and its sad.
You have a chance to step up and find a way to make the old ways of your ancestors new again. Your tribe is most likely lost in the white man's world and needs to relearn ancient traditions. Best!
bro i love you so much. you’ve walked your own path as a musician when you blew up at such a young age you could’ve just stuck to the mainstream and sold out to meaningless music production but instead you’ve continued to create art and give to the people as much as you can. that’s so awesome
You know how amazing this feels to see my reservation represented in this way? So many people come to film on the reservation and only take the negative scenes and air it out there. Even though this is sort of the same? it also shows that as a people, we are happy. We might not be in the best living situations, but because we have our culture and our language and each other, we can make it. I’m so extremely proud of Greyson for including my people, the Lakota people of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, in his music video. It’s the place I grew up, all of my childhood memories lie there and to see it represented in this way, makes me happy. Please take some time to check out the website linked in the description, suicide is such an unnecessarily big topic on our reservation and being able to prevent future tragedies would be the best thing for our tribe. Thank you so so SO much, Greyson Chance. I loved you before and I love you now ❤️
mymochitay thanks for your comment. I directed the video, and I really tried to walk away with footage that I felt showed both sides; the reality, and, most importantly, the hope and spirit of the people who live there. I have yet to meet a stronger people than your people. Reading your message is the only acclaim I sought; the acceptance and pride of the people who call Pine Ridge home. I look forward to seeing what your generation brings forth. The 7th generation. All my love ❤️
Bobby Hanaford you honestly did a great job. I know it’s hard to show a lot in the few short minutes you were given, but the fact that you did and that you showed both the negative and the positive sides to our reservation and way of life almost accurately in 4 minutes? It’s one of the many reasons I love the video and I’m so glad that as a team, you guys put this together so beautifully ❤️
Great song son.... I'm native American I'm so pleased to see you care. It was told to me by my great grandmother, who was full blooded Cherokee, that her mother walked the trail of tears. I'm honored as part Native American for what you are doing for this tribe. Thank you, Chris from Missouri
As a Norwegian I feel so guilty because I know there is a big possibility that my ancestors tore through and ruined your country. And it's never stopped, it makes me sad.
*Greyson just made this song SO much deeper. He could have easily made this about a boyfriend and a love story, but THIS is really touching. My heart is warmed!*
Greyson, I can't say much about your actions regarding the Lakota reserve, because I'm not a Native American. I CAN say that it's a happy surprise to see you after your university years a mature, artistic young man who is well aware of the issues surrounding him. You are inspirational for so many different reasons, and I wish you all the happiness and success in your path.
Just discovered Greyson Chance by chance today (Saw his piano performance in a talent show at school and his voice really hit me - I have a cochlear implant so hearing his voice levels really resonated with me. Additionally, this video really hit me big time since my uncle has worked with the Navajo Indians in New Mexico most of his life since he was arrested by the FBI for draft evasion during Vietnam war….This means a lot to me since I am so appreciative of his work with the Navajo Indians…..I am WELL AWARE of their community’s issues, problems, depression, unemployment and all that and it saddens me. Everyone should watch the movie about Trail of Tears and Geronimo. The US Government really stole their future away from them.
I'm from Indonesia, and i'm fans of you Greyson Chance.. and now you are making beautiful music... and i'm still loving your music ... and this video is make me cry
Greyson Chance, thank you for this song and video. I also saw your interview on The Young Turks with 'Tiny.' You've become a man with such conviction, reverence and understanding. Thank you for shedding light on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. You've addressed their plight - and ENDURANCE that has defined the Lakota Nation for what it truly is - a proud people with a true sense of stewardship of Mother Earth. Through everything that has happened, we remain. I am an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux (Lakota) of Eagle Butte, South Dakota. You are fierce. And, a force to be reckoned with. Stay true to yourself - and you cannot go wrong. All the Best to You!
I knew this song 2 years ago. I liked it, but I just enjoyed the music. After learning about the history of America-now it's about the native American chapter-I remember this song. I listen to this song again, and yeah, a lot of tears I got. Thank you greyson for making this wonderful art. Love you!
So underrated. I remembered first hearing his song "hold on til' the night" few years ago on Nickelodeon commercial break. Hearing his voice transformed from such angelic to mature is so amazing. Looking forward to what comes next for him.
I see the hole in the heart that you try To fill with a drink I see the light at the end of the dark It might make you think About where you've been, babe And what you've done Yeah, I know you hate this town You're not the only one I know you're hurting And you're feeling sold I know it hurts when You don't know where to go And when you're tied up By the past you hold You've got to know That you are good as gold I see the crack in your ribs when you fell Over your heels I see you hurt by the words when he said Love it ain't real But let me hold you And tell you what I see You are the light of the day You mean so much to me I know you're hurting And you're feeling sold I know it hurts when You don't know where to go And when you're tied up By the past you hold You've got to know That you are good as gold Oh... good as gold Oh... good as gold Oh... good as gold You've got to know You are good as gold Shoulder to shoulder Yeah babe, I'm on for the ride We can run far away Stay in the heat of July Oh, tonight Push your troubles aside We'll be alright, babe I know you're hurting And you're feeling sold I know it hurts when You don't know where to go And when you're tied up By the past you hold You've got to know That you are good as gold Oh... good as gold Oh... good as gold Oh... good as gold You've got to know That you are good as gold
As a fan from China, I have no knowledge on Lakota, but I still can feel the pain from the singing and ppl in this MV. I guess despite the culture difference, we still have the ability to relate to each other, because we are all human beings. So proud of you Greyson🧡
Thank you so much for this music all of us tribes the Lakota Cherokee Kickapoo Navajo all of us Native tribes in the USA thank you so much for lifting up our spirit and yourself to deserve our rights as citizens there is no such thing of difference groups there’s is unity and brotherhood of diversity thank you so much Greyson Chance
My son along with our church youth group served on a mission trip to Pine Ridge two years ago. There are a lot of serious issues with this community. Any and all positive assistance and changes are needed. I'm glad Greyson is donating his time and talent to this cause.
Greyson, I had never heard of Pine Ridge or the Lakota people until now; thank you for your effort to make more people recognize these people with such a colorful culture. Good As Gold is my favorite song from you so far, and it has given me so much strength and positive energies. Thank you xxx Love from Taiwan, Sara
Being in this fandom for more than 5 years and Greyson really changes, in a good way. I love him, even tho he's so underrated nowadays, I will stay in this fandom forever and always ♥️ I love you, Greyson
i remember watching this video premiered and i end up crying because of the message of the video and how perfect it was shot as well as greyson's voice, everything. i came back here to relive that moment.
Greyson is just amazing at what he does hands down each of his songs move me in such a different way that other artist just can’t do the video, the song, the message is simply amazing. Thank you Greyson❤️❤️👌🏾👌🏾
Thx for taking the time to show both sides of our reservation you really caught the beauty of the sunset and the negativity of our reservation most people only focus on the positive things but what brings beauty always brings a little pain and I thank you for showing both sides it was a beautiful video and I hope you enjoyed your time here
i love how so many people in the comments are like "omg his voice changed so much", i'm so glad when people "rediscover" Greyson because he truly deserves all the recognition in the world! thank you Greyson for using your platform to actually help people and raise awareness!
Thank you so much Greyson for this beautiful song about these beautiful people that are swept under the rug and almost forgotten. Their lives matter too.
I am sooo touched because now when I'm getting more mature I realize that your songs have always been accompanying me to grow up :') . Keep inspiring people, Grey! You have to know how much your song can influence others to think more and more about the basic crucial things in our surrounding that usually forgotten. Big thanks and good luck!!
Everyone should listen to your songs, you should be very successful, because we feel their emotion in the songs, you do not sing only with the voice, it is with the soul as well. I am sad to see how you are wronged, but happy because you do not give up and should not give up. NEVER! I love you so much, greyyyy ... here in Brazil.
where did that deep voice come from? Time flies so fast. It feels like yesterday when you mispronounce "selamat malam" to "selamat mama" i love my childhood. Thank you for keep making powerful music. Love from Indonesia 💜
I knew him since i was 13 and now I'm 19, I can't believe how we grow up together. I remember all of his musics. You're really a masterpiece Greyson. Don't stop making music❤️😭

The music of Greyson chance is great, like a beam of light that illuminates the front.
I love Greyson Chance!
I hope Ellen invites him back to perform this song and to catch up with him 💚
:
I think she did that once I don't remember one
Ellen abandoned him because he's no longer popular
I hope too ^^
Caden Blue hey guess what happened today?
She did today 4/4/19. I don’t think Ellen would do that she’s not like that.
i just cant help but to tear up. Nice one Greyson Chance!

rewatch this mv and i still crying:( this is SO beautiful.
I see the hole in the heart that you try
To fill with a drink
I see the light at the end of the dark
It might make you think
About where you've been, babe
And what you've done
Yeah, I know you hate this town
You're not the only one
I know you're hurting
And you're feeling sold
I know it hurts when
You don't know where to go
And when you're tied up
By the past you hold
You've got to know
That you are good as gold
I see the crack in your ribs when you fell
Over your heels
I see you hurt by the words when he said
Love it ain't real
But let me hold you
And tell you what I see
You are the light of the day
You mean so much to me
I know you're hurting
And you're feeling sold
I know it hurts when
You don't know where to go
And when you're tied up
By the past you hold
You've got to know
That you are good as gold
Oh... good as gold
Oh... good as gold
Oh... good as gold
You've got to know
You are good as gold
Shoulder to shoulder
Yeah babe, I'm on for the ride
We can run far away
Stay in the heat of July
Oh, tonight
Push your troubles aside
We'll be alright, babe
I know you're hurting
And you're feeling sold
I know it hurts when
You don't know where to go
And when you're tied up
By the past you hold
You've got to know
That you are good as gold
Oh... good as gold
Oh... good as gold
Oh... good as gold
You've got to know
That you are good as gold
Greyson is beautiful inside and out.
