I'm a music teacher and working from home. While teaching my private flute students over video chat is pretty straightforward, I'm pretty stressed what to do with my school music classes. Since I'm saving a lot of time from commuting, sitting in meetings, and supervising lunch and recess, I've been excited to have extra practice or reading time, but I find that some days I just cannot unwind enough to get very good practice done or to focus on a book. Usually I practice before school when my mind is still clear, but since practicing at 6:30 AM in my apartment is not an option, practicing later in the day during breaks is quite an adjustment. I really commend people who are disciplined enough to do this over a long period of time!
I think it's especially hard to concentrate for good practice right now with everything going on. I have days that I just have to put the flute away and come back to it later. Don't feel bad about doing that!
I have to start working from home tomorrow for 30 days in a row. I am a social person so I am not looking forward to it. Something someone told me was to either change into a fresh set of clothes or put on at least jeans and a T-shirt so you feel like you are ready to tackle the day. Sweat pants, while comfortable, are a breeding ground for depression!
Natalie Holtgraves I think a lot of ppl can definitely feel a lot better by doing that. For some reason, the second I get home, I switch into sweats so I’m almost 100% in sweats at home 🤣 probably is good for ppl that aren’t used to working at home though too!
Thank you for your videos. You are a very clever an fresh woman. Blessings for you and your family. I am musician too (pianist) and really appreciate your content. Thank you!!
We're all working from from home here in the UK total lockdown, nothing is open so freelance musicians are all at home worrying about money. All live music cancelled, I'm hoping all my students are practising, there are no gigs. Keep the videos coming, I just bought myself a new Muramatsu in line open hole but unusually has split E on this DS model, I'm enjoying spending days of isolation practising. Stay safe.
Steve Hickingy we are having the exact thing happen here in Los Angeles. All my in person gigs are canceled 😬 That’s amazing about your new flute though! What a fun thing to be doing right now!
Hai, I am an ingenieer and amateur musician. I found this video really interesting. It is the first time in 30 years or so that I am working from home. I got indeed distracted by facebook- so I will keep in mind to put it off. Do you do your skeduling in an agenda? or just in your head? We sometimes video meetings (in Teams) too. We are not used to it, so there are still a lot of issues (not hearing each other well and so). But I think this is also an oppurtunity now to learn to work from home, and when this corona crisis is over, I hope that my boss will allow me to it now and then.
Thanks for watching! I have played on The Nun, Straight Outta Compton, Lady and the Tramp and some of the TV shows are The Simpsons, Locke & Key, Planet Earth II, Chef's Table and Cobra Kai :)
