The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Tony is the GOAT! He doesn't just sing, he lives each song with his soul. I feel like he's singing this directly to the one he loves with all his heart
He lived in my city San Francisco
My goat
rest in peace tony, you were one of the best
He is one of the few artists who actually got better with time
Both He and "The Velvet Fog" Mel Torme'.
Tony sings with such conviction, his pacing is so wonderful, he inhabits the whole song and communicates his love of it. A beautiful and intimate singer. What a musician.
Also the sound quality for this video is amazing!
So well said..a great artist
Sorry for the Sinatra fans, but Bennett is in a class by himself--what a voice, what CLASS and style and just so spiritual in his singing. I was blessed to have front row seats in Vegas and he gave the finest, most professional and entertaining show EVER.. God Bless you Tony!!
As great as Frank is, I prefer Tony. He is my number one. The best and the King.
They are two great singers who were very very different. I don't compare I simply enjoy
@@murph3001nothing wrong with comparison
Frank said himself that Tony was the best! I love listening to them both..
He was good but Dean Martin sang it better from my opinion
Forty-two in this. Ninety-Six when he died. Shared over fifty years of his life with us, entertaining us with his extraordinary gift. Thank you, Tony.
The only singer who could talk through a song as part of his phrasing. Pure vocal genius!
Nobody before or eons after Tony Bennett leaves us will there be anyone even close to this amazing crooner.
So true.. even Frank said he was the best!
Who gives this a thumbs down? Five idiots! It just doesn't get any better than Tony, Bobby Hackett and The Ralph Sharon Trio. Pure velvet magic.
Fake artists like Taylor, Swift, and Nicki Minaj can’t hold a candle to people like Tony Bennett, and people like Freddie Mercury, who could really sing without the aid of digital trickery.
Talk about a Mt Rushmore of music 🎶
This is Bennett at his very best. Beautiful.
This was a little over 2 weeks before my 2nd birthday. RIP Mom and Dad 😇🙏❤
Love it...the way that Hackett waits for Tony to do his thing is pure pleasure.
Such a romantic, sexy and beautiful voice! R.i.p. sir!
My favorite crooner
Yes indeed...
Bobby Hackett with Tony Bennett on the Ed Sullivan Show. First time I ever saw this. It is our wedding song, not this version, but my wife and I have been married 42 years and a half. LOL! Great rendition of this classic.
And almost 60 years later he's still doing it!!
I have every one of Tony Bennett's vinyl albums. I love to listen to them when I'm in the kitchen cooking and baking
What a voice.
Tony makes the tune spontaneous as if he's singing these words for the first time.
Tony Bennett was born August 3, 1926.
He was 38 years old in this recording.
A Leo!♌️
Just passed. End of an era, the greatest of all time
Pure artistry and amazing vocal chops!
Bravo
This is actually Better than the studio version on "When Lights are Low".
Truly truly a great vocalist . Rip thank you for all the great music.
A wonderful rendition of one of the classics from the Great American Songbook. Tony Bennett's consistent level of excellence for over 70 years was incredible. That he has had to retire at age 95 is our loss, but the man deserves a well deserved rest. And I agree with the comment below, Tony is the GOAT!!!!!
It was a big mistake to have an Alzheimer's patient of 95 years of age retire from the only thing that he fully remembers and which is the love of his life.
Tony's son says they were afraid he would "fall on stage" or develop other physical problems; while he was still a "capable performer", his "continuing health" was the most important thing now.
For how long do you expect to preserve a man who is almost 100 years old and has a severe progressive cognitive illness, taking away the only real joy he still had? I have ZERO understanding for this.
Tony with Bobby Hackett, total perfection.
OMG!!! SO SWOONY!!!!
For me it is always a pleasure to listen Tony Bennett sing, as he had such a nice voice, and he sang with real feeling, and a talent that cannot be faked. I am glad he lived a long life, and may now rest in peace, now his path through this Earth is over. RIP Tony Bennett.
A very long career and we are happy that it’s been long. Thanks for all the songs Tony. Thank you for posting.
Bennett...approaching his prime as a singer here...he would get much better when he started working with the bill evans of the music world....
There is only one Tony with his unique style and phrasing! What a treasure!
My goat
Always and forever the best! RIP
So good. What control he had over that beautiful voice.
Beautiful arrangement too.
What class. Popular music of the highest quality.
"Take Me in your Arms again" ......the reason I spent 62 years with the love of my life
Every note steps out. He's got that high overtone brilliance, as does Stevie Wonder. Floats over the arrangement so that we can all enjoy it to the fullest.
Tony Bennett so much feeling and emotion in those days no one could come close not even Frank. Phil caggiano
Rest in Peace, Tony.
Pure genius and class.
Rest in peace, Tony Bennett
Better Then Today Music

Those MKIV Marconi cameras are great...and so is Mr. Bennett.

Wonderful...
Tony was the best!!! ❤
god take bud bunny and all the rappers with you, and give us back tony and all the great crooners
Tasty playing by Bobby Hackett
Buddy Hackett is exquisite on that horn.
LINDO
