CE is a term created by Jews in the 19th century because Jews typically don't believe in Jesus and don't wish to date things according to his lifetime. It's less direct disrespect and more general disinterest in having our chronology be determined by his character. In the end, though, most Jews still use the secular chronology which stems from the Christian chronology, while some Jews also use traditional Jewish methods of dating (to the creation and/or to the Alexandrian conquest).
