The comments regarding the food is a bit unfair as you tried unfamiliar foods. I believe that you should have known that the food was going to be spicy as you've traveled the world over, and have had Indian food before.
Trying the western food instead would have given a better comparison. The couple of western foods he received had a mediocre presentation but I'm curious as to whether it tasted good. I'd love to try the Indian food myself (though I definitely need the yoghurt haha)
Dark Knight, as a senior purser for an international airline that no longer flies to India, I am familiar with the offerings of the caterers out of both Indira Ghandi, and Chadrapati Shivagi airports. Mr. Chui should have tried the western offering as well as the Indian, to at least see if at least the western one was acceptable.
There was a time when Air India was the worlds most profitable and the best airline in the whole world Tata himself invested in each flight and Singapore Airline personally took inspiration from Air India ( When it was called Tata Airlines) This was the time when it was among the three most profitable airlines in the world and Air India was at the top in luxury flying Government overtake and horrible mismanagement brought it straight down PS :- Fun fact Air India actually owns more than 4000 artwork and Tata personally commissioned none other than Salvador Dali The most famous surreal artist in the world at the time and for payment he asked for an elephant kid which was delivered to him
@@luvmite2758 if you actually believe that, that just means you don’t know history all that much. AI was among the most luxurious and well managed airlines in the world back in the days. Same was the case with PIA. One of the best airlines in the world and the best in the region. It helped emirates start their aviation journey. Government control and corruption has made it one of the worst airlines
Im a frequent flyer.. I travel to India for work... Have always preferred Air India... Never had any problems...always a pleasant flight... I love their non stop flights...i have heard people complaining about the age of airhostess... I don't understand why is that so important as long as one gets proper service.
I’ve flown Air India Business a dozen times from FRA to SYD, with a stopover in Delhi. I always enjoyed it, new planes and good service, especially when you take into consideration that a round-trip is less than 2000 Euro for a 20 something hour trip.
I am very surprised that the business class seats are so ill-designed in the new 787 of Air India. Having said that, I have flown various airlines and Air India has been amongst the better ones, at least in the domestic sector. I understand about the food part since the food has been designed to suit Indian tastes. In the international sector I have had an amazing experience on Oman Air.
I feel home as soon entering the plane from Europe.. little elderly hostess gives you already a motherly feel and they talk to you strictly just like your mom does 😂🤣😂🤣
Why air India is horrible because it is cheap and also it is a government controlled airline they lack funds their main aim to provide quality service even for a middle class people
Lol they have huge funds since they are owned by the Govt. When a private company starts making loss, it either has to change its way or shut down in a short time. When Govt company starts making loss, it has nothing to worry about since Indians dont care about fiscal responsibility, and the criminal labour unions stop the Govt from selling them.
Yah Allah always keep Air India and other aviation safe and secure in the sky. Mind-blowing video. When I kept watching, I felt I was flying somewhere with you towards unknown. An inexplicable feelings, really! Thank you for uploading this. Greetings from Dhaka, Bangladesh...
Good vlog and a honest review. I have always felt that there is an unfair criticism of Air India by the public for reasons beyond its service. Some of my best flights have been with Air India. The 787-8 dreamliner flights have the largest leg room (83cms) in economy (even above Jet Airways 777-300ER), more spacious due to 2-3-2 configuration and the food is always top class. I have had bad food experiences in Jet Airways but never even once in Air India. Their South Indian breakfast menu tastes really good. The Air Hostesses are govt employees and hence older women but who cares when I get the service more than the value for money paid.
@6:46 Is that a stain on the headrest? I've been on 2 AI flights. One resulted in a RTO at BOM in the middle of summer. Plane taxied to a stand and passengers were cooking for over 2 hours with no AC. 2 years later, flew 747 from BOM to JFK via LHR. We lost cabin pressure 1 hr before landing, had emergency descent and continued to LHR. My concern is with the handling of maintenance of their aircraft and the management in charge. I give props to the flight and cabin crew for what they have to deal with.

Nice planes, but their chaotic and disorganized ground operations coupled with their ok food service with horrible domestic standard presentation leaves a lot to be desired. Not to mention they don't even provide amenity kits and that 787 looked worn down already! I think Sam was being nice! For a 787, those business class seats are VERY outdated in design and comfort. I guess since it only cost $1,300 though, you got what you paid for. I would personally never fly Air India, and it's clear why they hesitated even letting them join the Star Alliance! What a cheesy national carrier! It's a shame because the crew seemed very nice and experienced. They deserve to have better products to serve their customers! India and it's citizens also deserve an airline they can be proud of! India is an amazing country, so I hear, and has amazing people.
You’re absolutely right Chris, Indians find it hard to swallow this truth but the reality is the chaotic, disorganized means of the country don’t do any of the operations any favors be it in the air or on the ground, it’s symbolic of how the overall country is run.
Well Air New Zealand is under government control with a small population and well out of the way of everything and they are a great carrier - I guess it just comes down to the ability of the government.
@@karinamobilelegend8432 you fool which country r u don't no English came to talk about our India who said Indian food r higenic India is the best country in the world
I flew from SFO to DEL a few years ago. It was a full flight on an aging 747. Some of the flight attendants were too short, so they needed the male passengers to help close the overhead compartments. During taxiing to the runway, some of the compartment doors sprang open. Once the plane got in the air, and the seatbelt signs went off, the passengers closed the doors again. I guess we were lucky that luggage wasn't falling out during takeoff.
Too short FAs? 🤔🤔 Don't they go through selection process? I mean, surely, the training airlines/academy will have eliminated any candidates that do not meet the specified height requirements!
Thanks for the unbiased and great review...one small detail I like about Air INDIA is that they say Jai hind after ending the flight..also the air hostess has explained you a correct way to enjoy South Indian food...there are so many great things about air India...it’s was established by Tata and was run as one of the worlds best airlines...hope its legacy continues post this govts dissolution of our national carrier....really thankful for your great review.

A lot of the trash talk about Air India comes from Indians. My experience flying economy is akin to yours flying business - neither good nor bad. I could understand the criticism, except that a lot of times, the trash-talkers are themselves not the most classy/sophisticated, or even the most hygienic kind. Yet, they seem to have this megalomaniac mindset.
snowywinter9 makes no sense Dosent matter if they’re beggars for gods sake, what matters is they paid for the seat and the services so they need to provide them with it. Having said that, with the amount of money air India charges, other flights offer more and better so it’s obvious for them to get criticized. What else do you expect. I bet you’ve never stepped foot inside air India but somehow found your way in here talking nothing but nonsense
Kapil Kapur he nailed what ? You brainwashed or something ? What he just said makes no sense What does anything have to do with the passengers when they’re the one paying for the service and not the other way around? You don’t get to say what or how the passengers are, you do what you’re paid and supposed to do, and that’s provide them with the service which is worth the money they spent. They will bash you if it’s not up to the mark or if other airlines provide better with the same amount of money. It’s obvious Have you even stepped foot inside one of those air India airlines ? I guess not, so you wouldn’t know “Nailed it” lol wtf
Zarden - I understand what you are saying but it doesn't work that way. Imagine you paid 3,4,6,8x ( or more) the price of an economy fare for your BC or F ticket and got say 5-10% better service for all that money that you had saved up to be able to afford. What you get for your money is VERY important and it's reasonable to expect that higher level of service and very basic things like priority boarding. If I am getting the same food but served on nicer plates and having to stand on an air bridge waiting around for ages along with pax in econ then why don't I just save my money for my holiday and pay the econ fare instead. I've flown econ / budget carriers a lot more than I've ever BC ( I've never flown F) in my time but when I do I expect the carrier to make sure they pay me back for all the money I just gave to them.
Always loved to watch Sam Chui flight reports. Air India have improved a lot.I request the higher officials of Air India to give a compulsory training on Indian food habits for the 50 year old air hostess. Such a senseless people to say mix chutney with sambar.lack of professionalism .You are declining your status because of these small things which will have major impact on a foreigner that the Indians don't have basic knowledge on their own food habits.

@@collateralkiller959 I think the senior flight attendants are serving the business class. Maybe the young good looking flight attendants are serving in the economy in the same flight 😂
For the cheap price it is marginal, or (barely) acceptable, but I cannot imagine ever paying full price for something simple as not having a priority lane. Also, nice review! I liked how you touched on the small details like the business class bus (which actually improves the experience a lot, because otherwise you have to wait anyway until the bus is filled) and things like the amenity kit. Gr8 video. Airlines just like Air India have the potential to do really well.. Everyone is used to the QR/EY/SQ/EK business class product and these airlines have certainly set the benchmarks for their competitors, however there are the smaller airlines which can bring something new to the table and seriously take those airlines for a good run for their money. Sam, I challenge you to meet me on SQ, from Sydney to Copenhagen on 2 September..
@sam chui - I completely understand you can’t compare air India business class with ethihad and there is a reason air India business class is far more cheaper than ethihad and Emirates . It’s a value for business class . For a 15 hours long haul 1000 $ upgrade is value deal.
sun up actually, most people in business class spend hours and hours everyday trying to find a way to use miles or find a good deal because not everyone is made of money. So lots of people who fly business class also like to save money.
Chhuti Maiti - $1,300 was the total price for what was actually two flights (transit to a new aircraft in Mumbai) - the second one on a new Dreamliner where the entertainment was working. Just mentioning this for clarification 👍🏻.
If your serving food wrapped in foil to your business class , then you need to improve at the very minimum the presentation and plating of the food. Let alone the taste
Vistara will be the new age airlines in India in the next 5 years. I have flown Vistara for the 1st time last month and totally awestruck by their service and food quality. Vistara should replace Air India for all International sectors. At least Indian aviation will have a face saver all over the world.

This is my fr....eh neighbour :). Thanks for the report Sam, enjoyed it! Did they really replace the screen with the maharadja? That's pretty bad. I must say, 1300 for such a flight is still a lot of money in my opinion....
Though you are experienced; I would like to differ with you in regard of foods. These foods a re very much traditional Indian food. And from my experience, any other airlines viz. Singapore airlines, China airlines, JAL, ANA, emirates all provide foods according to their host country. We can customize our foods. Suggestion of improvement of foods; I do not agree. For me, flying in any chinese flights gives me a tough time to eat their strong pungent food. But I respect their way of life and foods. However, I agree AIR india can improve in terms of ground service and some other factors. Thanks!

However, the overall hygiene of the flight was lacking and the entertainment system was slow and didn't have a wide selection. Inflight staff were nice though.
Good comment. And quite to the point.... AI is insolvent - kept afloat by taxpayers - without their consent. It is bloated and badly needs better management, restructuring and a sell-off to any buyer who is at least partially insane. No government so far has had the cajones to do something about it (no, trying to sell it with crappy conditions and resulting in abject failure does not count as 'doing something'). One of the biggest failures of NaMo/BJP govt. is to continue to keep this 'national carrier' afloat on poor peoples' back to subsidize air travle for the middle and upper classes.. This is clearly one amongst many other failures of this government (and I am neither an Indian citizen nor a Congress/opposition supporter).

There was a time when Air India was the worlds most profitable and the best airline in the whole world
Tata himself invested in each flight and Singapore Airline personally took inspiration from Air India ( When it was called Tata Airlines)
This was the time when it was among the three most profitable airlines in the world and Air India was at the top in luxury flying
Government overtake and horrible mismanagement brought it straight down
PS :- Fun fact
Air India actually owns more than 4000 artwork and Tata personally commissioned none other than Salvador Dali
The most famous surreal artist in the world at the time and for payment he asked for an elephant kid which was delivered to him
Air india was the worst for the last 70 years.

AI was the first airline in the world with all jet engine aircrafts in its fleets, one of the firsts to take delivery of 747. AI went on a downhill post the 80s.
Same was the case with PIA. One of the best airlines in the world and the best in the region. It helped emirates start their aviation journey. Government control and corruption has made it one of the worst airlines

I’ve flown Air India Business a dozen times from FRA to SYD, with a stopover in Delhi. I always enjoyed it, new planes and good service, especially when you take into consideration that a round-trip is less than 2000 Euro for a 20 something hour trip.
What do they charge for business class from the U.S to Chennai round trip? We flew in 2019 and the price was $3,500 per passenger.
i can live for 7 months with 2000, and you make it sound like a joke
I am very surprised that the business class seats are so ill-designed in the new 787 of Air India. Having said that, I have flown various airlines and Air India has been amongst the better ones, at least in the domestic sector. I understand about the food part since the food has been designed to suit Indian tastes.
In the international sector I have had an amazing experience on Oman Air.

Great to see a positive review of Air India. Thanks Sam!
Entertainment screen broken. I would be up in arms if I was paying a business class fare for this!!
That Indian cuisine makes it well worth it !

True. They can't appreciate themselves.

snowywinter9 makes no sense
Dosent matter if they’re beggars for gods sake, what matters is they paid for the seat and the services so they need to provide them with it.
What he just said makes no sense
What does anything have to do with the passengers when they’re the one paying for the service and not the other way around?
You don’t get to say what or how the passengers are, you do what you’re paid and supposed to do, and that’s provide them with the service which is worth the money they spent. They will bash you if it’s not up to the mark or if other airlines provide better with the same amount of money. It’s obvious
Have you even stepped foot inside one of those air India airlines ? I guess not, so you wouldn’t know

Yes there is way more diff. On it ethihad is clean and air india is fucking dirty inside
$1300 flight, and the tv screen is broken! Wow!
Chhuti Maiti - $1,300 was the total price for what was actually two flights (transit to a new aircraft in Mumbai) - the second one on a new Dreamliner where the entertainment was working. Just mentioning this for clarification 👍🏻.
Do you even know how much the other airlines charge for such a trip.. plus it was only a 2 hrs flight from Dubai to Mumbai
Air India short haul flights on narrow body do not have screens.
Emirates airways also broken screen not only air India so these kind of tragedy In all aircrafts not in only air India

For me, flying in any chinese flights gives me a tough time to eat their strong pungent food. But I respect their way of life and foods. I flew Air India a few days ago in Economy and the food was good...
