    Nice write up. I do like the dashboard you have there. I am using Heimdall but that one looks cleaner. EDIT: I found it..it's called Homer.

      Yep, did a video on Homer a few weeks back, and it's been a great little dashboard. Saved me a lot of typing, and yes, you can configure it so it's quite clean looking.

    Can this app has words filter, or customly add words to blacklist to block the search result sets.

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe this has "Safe Search" as an option, but not a way to add custom words, but it does have the ability to block certain sites from being provided as results to searches, though I haven't set that up, so you'd have to look at the github documentation on it.

    Do you know if Whoogle search is legal for public use on public domain or private use only?

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't. You'd have to check their license and terms of service for that.

    ....can you use it as a search provider in Chrome????

    Hey, I'm using whoogle now for about 2 weeks and I run very often into an error "Instance has been ratelimited", do you know how I can get around this?
    The only way I got it back working is to restart my Router to get a new IP-Adress from my ISP....

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmmm. Are you serving it publicly? If so, you might put something like Authelia in front of it to keep others from using your instance.

      @@AwesomeOpenSource I'm only using it at home with 2 other people. But they don't use it that much. Now the last 2 days I had no problem at all so I guess it repaired it self... I could have done to many requests with the same wprd to test the speed an results of whoogle, so I think that caused the problem...

    what's the dashboard?

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On this video I think I was using Homer at the time. I now use Dashy, but there are so many great options out there it's hard to stick with just one.

    What are the security implications of running this on a reverse proxy with no login required? I'm just wondering what happens if someone stumbles across the url what they can do

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. This isn't anonymous search for certain, just more private without a bunch of ads and other tracking. so take that for what it's worth. I did setup an ACL for my install.

    • @explosiveenterprises1479
      @explosiveenterprises1479 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AwesomeOpenSource you must have just setup login credentials on it now. Just to see if it worked I was able to go to your URL although the searches didn't work. Now I cannot access the URL would maybe be useful to put in the video how you setup those login creds

      @@explosiveenterprises1479 i did this in NGinX Proxy Manager, by adding an access list to my proxy host. I’ve done this in the past on other videos.

    Does it proxy the searches?

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, just de-googles the search engine.

      @@AwesomeOpenSource I mean, is there a server in between. Where does the results coming from. does it scraping immediately or does it comes from a server

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can only tell you what the project site shows. "Get Google search results, but without any ads, javascript, AMP links, cookies, or IP address tracking. Easily deployable in one click as a Docker app, and customizable with a single config file. Quick and simple to implement as a primary search engine replacement on both desktop and mobile." It still uses result from the Google search engine, just removes all the extra stuff that is included in the actual Google page.

    U can make it as browser default search

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the browser, but, yes, most modern browsers have steps that you can follow to make this the default search.

    You really should add a disclaimer to the part where you put this on the internet. I was with ya until you didn't make it private. Someone is going to watch this and do exactly as you do and then leave it on the internet until something bad happens.

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a disclaimer that is in most of my videos. I may have missed it here. But anytime you expose anything to the open internet you are taking a risk, for certain. Yes, you should use IP Filtering with the ACL in NginX Proxy Manager if you want to expose this outside your home.
