I visited my local Goodwill Buy the Pound outlet, rooted around the bottom of the bins, and bought some really cheap minis. They're cheaply made and cost virtually nothing since you pay by the pound. I used a variety of techniques to transform these pieces into beautiful dollhouse decor.
Find a local Goodwill Buy the Pound. Do the world some good and buy some fantastic items before they make their way to the landfill. I've found items from Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, and Crate & Barrel. There are tons of items from Target and HomeGoods. Plus, I found 35 grams of sterling silver that cost me less than a penny! You really must visit.
My fave things:
Miter Shears- this pair is highly rated and has replaceable blades
amzn.to/3LchlUy
2 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze
amzn.to/3zmMLR1
8 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze
amzn.to/3zpiMbm
Double-sided flooring tape
amzn.to/423tJwL
Mini Clamps
amzn.to/3vBdc6U
Heat gun- I use mine to quickly dry paint, soften the glue to dismantle furniture and quickly cure polymer clay without an oven. Gets a lot hotter than a hair dryer.
amzn.to/3YBAIcH
Craft heat gun that doesn't get as hot as mine
amzn.to/3ZZ5wWe
Nail Studs- I like these because there are a variety of sizes in silver and brass
amzn.to/3JEtJMd
For under $10, you get a variety of jump rings, lobster clasps and pliers
amzn.to/3Zu7sGd
Paper fasteners & 1/8" hole punch
amzn.to/3O5nYI6
11 piece clay tool set for $10

I have lots of projects planned ranging from abandoned miniatures, furniture makeovers, dioramas, accessories, kits and Dollhouse Miniatures in multiple scales. I'm also working on a large Harry Potter build in 1" scale. I'm making the Gryffindor Common Room from scratch.

You bring so much humor and reality to making miniatures! Most channels/videos don't show the mistakes which are a normal part of this hobby, but you show all the bumps and flaws in the process and I think that's wonderful. It's inspiring for someone new like me, who makes tons of mistakes. I aspire to be as good at miniatures as you are!
I appreciate that! Also I'm flattered you think I show all of my mistakes. Most of them don't make the cut 😆 Making mistakes is definitely part of the process.
"... sharp pair of scissors." 😂😂😂 You crack me up!
Those damn scissors 😆
I absolutely love your tips and tricks but honestly those pale in comparison to your humor! I can’t watch your videos in public places because I find myself laughing out loud and garnering side-eye looks from everyone within hearing distance 😂😂😂 Because of you and Bentley Minis, I’m now into miniatures and love the hours I spend creating so THANK YOU! Keep the humor and the videos coming 🎉🎉
That's so great to hear! I'm always so happy when people discover miniatures. Making minis brings me so much happiness and is so relaxing. I'm happy you found your way to the hobby too.
Yes! I love everything about you! And you do have a bit of a monotone voice, so that humor that you throw in there is just the best.
They're all amazing, but the topiary and the tiny flower vase were my absolute favourites! 👏👏👏👏
(Now I'm itching to attempt making mini plants again, darn it 😅 😂)
You can do it! You can do everything!
@@queencityminis 😂😂❤
It's always entertaining to watch your videos I love your sense of humor! And it goes w/o saying your tips, tricks and talent are awesome! I love the fact that you shop Goodwill to find miniature items to refurbish. I shop there, too but never for minis. Until now! Thank you for such helpful, detailed info on how you do what you do😊 My fave piece was the little pitcher of flowers❤
Thank you so much! I looked at the picture of flowers for so long while I was both making it and then during the editing process. I couldn't tell if it was cute or not so I'm glad you guys like it. Sometimes I see too much of a mini and start having doubts.
I love how you say funny things in an absolute deadpan, "They come in really fun colors, so I chose black." LOL Perfect.
Hahaha thank you
I absolutely love your videos, your tips and tricks are amazing. But let’s face it, it’s your sense of humor that makes them an absolute joy to watch. I often laugh out loud while watching but this one caught me off guard, to say I “exploded “ with laughter over the scissors would not be an exaggeration. Love your work but love your humor even more.
Love that! I was wondering how many people would catch that comment.
Love it all but the potted plants are my favorites
Thank you! My favorite technique is the faux copper. My favorite project from this group is the topiary.
Fantastic transformations as usual! I love the little cannon game peice!
Thank you!
Fabulous as always! Love the pitcher/urn with flowers! Thanks! Kathleen
Thank you!
I love all of them but especially the little game pieces and the little bowl of flowers.
The flowers are a surprise hit for me! I'm glad you all like them
Your dry sense of humor is my favorite part of your channel. The amazing budget mini ideas is just a plus
Thanks so much! I appreciate that 😃
Omg the satisfaction of you paying
I love it! Same
The earrings are def NOT cheating! I bet a bunch of minis would make awesome earrings!
I've been looking at mini items for a long time thinking they would be adorable as earrings. I'm glad I finally made them
The little stitching marks on the tennis racket really took it over the top! I agree that the silvery grey ended up looking more like the reflections off of “clear” strings than the white. You might consider the-doing the surface silvery and the logo in black or blue. But it’s great as is! Your humor about your mistakes is always fun. I don’t think you can call yourself and artist or crafter if your fingers aren’t occasionally painted. I noticed in the doctor’s office yesterday that one of my fingers is blue at the edges from my watercolor pencils the other day! 😂
I definitely think silver with a blue logo would look great. I would probably also repaint the silver handle back to black because I liked it better before. I guess I was just itching to use rub 'n buff again 😆
Love all the tips, but the tennis racket with the “I chose black” had me cracking up!! Just how I would think…oooo so many colors black sounds good.😂
We're too safe 😆
@@queencityminis yup! But we keep on creating anyways. 🤣🤣
I am loving the moss mixture
Thank you 😊
Enjoyed the video! Great job on all the transformations! I liked them all!
Thanks so much 😊
They are all excellent as usual! I'm in awe of all the clever tricks you come up with. I love the little flower arrangement. I am not sure if they look like any actual flowers, but you need to believe it! 😆 With miniatures you can either make things look 100% realistic or create a convincing illusion of the real thing. You do both! 👌
Thank you so much!
Delightful ! Super thrifty mini making is my favourite. Thank you so much for all of work. P.S. My little grandaughter named her doll after you.
That is awesome! That's the cutest thing ever. Awwww
Perfect timing, Shyra! On my way back from Joann’s, I stopped at an Estate Sale. I bought a PINK miniature plastic bucket filled with attached bluish fish. I am going to try out your tips and methods to transform this piece into something more appropriate looking. Thanks! Also, I think your tip of keeping flocking in an old spice jar is absolutely brilliant! Now, I use up some spice! 😆 I appreciate all of your tips. 😊
That's great! I'm sure it'll look great after it's makeover.
Thank you!
Ahhh I love this! Part 2?
This was a lot of fun. It'll definitely be a series.
@@queencityminis thank you!!
Your work is amazing, and I love that you share your mishaps. You are so talented and fun to watch
Thank you so much!
The silver handel looks so pretty❤️
Thank you so much!
The cannon from the Risk game is my favourite. I want it for my mini bookshelf.
Yay! Some love for the cannon
What fun!! I wish my Goodwill had bins like that. But then, I'd probably bring home about 5 pounds worth and then be overwhelmed, lol. All of the pieces came out great and the stitching on the tennis racket was perfection. 👍 Always Happy to find a new video from QCM! 😀
It really is hard to hold back when you pay by the pound and items you're buying are extremely lightweight. I have gotten a lot of craft supplies at the Goodwill bins.
Absolute sorcery. The little game pieces are my favorite because I love the metal look you created, although that topiary is spectacular.
I'm so happy with the "copper"!
Game pieces for a dollhouse is a great idea. I will be on the lookout for some.
I used some Monopoly houses to make gingerbread houses for a fireplace mantle for Christmas decor. Game pieces are a great size.
@@queencityminis that's a fantastic idea.
They all turned out great! I love the topiary and flower vase, so charming! And the treatment for the tiny statue was gorgeous.
Thank you so much!
The bins! A girl after my own heart! Great techniques I can't wait to try. I'm fascinated by any technique that makes something not metal look metal. I love that you put a bandaid over your glove. 🔥😍✨
Thanks so much! 😊 Yes, the frugal/hates wasting things part of me figured the glove is fine even though it has a burn hole in it. I'm probably one of the only people still left in the US who repairs my shoes LOL
@@queencityminis You're not! Count me in! I have a 15+ yr pair doc martens they don't make anymore. Many repairs. DM even sent buckles- for free! lol. You GO GIRL🤑😂
I just love your videos. I smile and laugh each time. I appreciate your longer videos. Thanks for sharing these.
Glad you like them! Thank you 😊
Your videos are not only informative but fun.
Thanks so much 😁
I loved the pitcher you made into a vase of flowers. The silver and black wash looked like pewter in the end. Really nice arrangement.
Mission accomplished! I was hoping it would look like pewter.
So creative! I think my favourite one was the jug with the flower arrangement. It's so delicate and lovely looking
Thanks so much 😊 I'm so happy people appreciate it! I couldn't tell if the jug of flowers was any good.
I liked everything but I would like to make the topiary. I’ve been watching for a planter but haven’t found one yet. I liked the use of foil.
You can do it!
I like this one makes me think of how many games I have taken the pieces out of to put in a doll house or a junk shop. Mainly monopoly, clue and don't for the game of operation. I would get the model spray paint to change the colors and go from there. I like your ideas too. You have a great day and making the minis
Thanks so much 😁
I adore your videos!!!!! I could wat you make tiny things all day. Idk why no other maker scratches that itch like you!
Thank you so much! I'm really happy with the point my channel has evolved to. I was focusing more on kits in the beginning. Then I quickly realized I like making things from scratch out of everyday items or trash.
How adorable. Those little game pieces etc came out looking so good. They will look so cute on a shelf. Hope your room smells better, burning rubber is nasty. Have a great week.
I bought an entire handful of the miniature game pieces since they were sitting at the bottom of the bins and no longer in the game. I knew people wouldn't really want them. I could fill a hundred bookshelves with the game pieces I have.
@@queencityminis would love to see them displayed. I'll have to start digging deeper at my goodwill. I never see these things, but now I'll look harder. Thanks
Your actions really give much better looks to the pieces ☺
Thank you so much 😊
I LOVE the Goodwill bins! I've found some good miniatures there! Thank you for the ideas!❤❤
You are so welcome!
The little flower pot is my fave
I'm so glad! Thank you 😊
Love the little pitcher with flowers
I'm so surprised at how popular that particular project is! I couldn't tell if it looked good because I looked at it too long while I was making it and editing.
As always, fabulous improvements. My favorites are the tennis racket (I had my doubts about that one in the beginning😊) and the flower arrangement.❤❤❤
I had my doubts, too! Thank you 😊
Great job! Really love the silver vase filled with flowers. Have a wonderful day.
Thank you! You too!
The white dashes on the tennis racket make it real!
I agree. It's such a good detail.
So many good tips, thanks! My favorite was the silver teapot with hydrangea-like flowers.
That's awesome! I wasn't sure if they were any good. I'm surprised they're such a hit.
I love the topiaries!! It has encouraged me to try to make my own instead of buying them! Thanks 😊
Go for it! You can def make them yourself
Your humor is always entertaining, Shyra. I like all the transformations and techniques used, but the topiary is my very favorite. Thank you for showing a cost saving way to make it.
Thank you so much! My pleasure ☺️
@@queencityminis, You're welcome!
Great work at transforming these items. ❤❤
Thank you! 🤗
Frankenstein handle, 😂 my favorite is the silver vase with flowers.
Good choice! Thank you
You never cease to amaze me with your transformations from junker to gems.
I preferred the black tennis racquet handle but both look good.
I agree! It looked better black.
Love it Shyra, I am always finding little bits and pieces that can be modified but never got plastic to look right, however I will try mixing wood glue with my paint (wood glue? White glue?) to get it to stick better. My best discovery was that my vape liquid 10ml bottles make perfect buckets in 18th scale. I cover them with either cardstock cut into 'boards' or the same but with EVA foam cut into boards and painted and distressed. I found string and glue makes the best 'rings' to hold medieval buckets together. I try to recycle as much as I possibly can.
I've never tried mixing in wood glue. I've used white glue & mod podge.
That's great! I love upcycling
Love the topiary idea, so creative! Will be copying that for my Sylvanians!
Have fun! My next video will be a Sylvanian Family's table and chair set repaint.
the racket and cannon are my favourite
That's the first bit of love for the racket! Thank you
Great video, I love your creative tips. They all turned out beautifully, my favorites were the game pieces I love distressing and aging metals. Thank you for another inspiring video, enjoy your weekend. 🌼🙂✌🌼
Thank you so much! The faux copper is my favorite technique in this video. It looks so convincing.
@@queencityminis It really does that's a beautiful piece 😍
Wonderful again - thank you so much!! The stitching round the racquet was genius but the bra wearing eggs definitely gets my vote!! 🤣🤣🤣
Now I can't unsee it 😆
REALLY nice.
Thanks!
I gotta get me to a Goodwill - SOON!
Run! It's a good time
8:40 just perfect.
I had no idea the flowers would be so popular!
Plastic shower curtain rings make awesome Faucets for dollhouse sinks and showers
Oh, very interesting! Thank you
“When I lit my glove on fire…..” 😂 Honestly, whomst among us hasn’t lit our hand on fire once or twice while crafting? Always stoked to see a new upload of yours pop up! Watching your videos has inspired me to start creating a 1/12th scale model of my tattoo shop, and it’s been such a nice distraction from the horrors of reality…. About to start 4 feet of wooden floor with coffee stir sticks, wish me luck. Thank you for the inspiration and all the helpful tips and tricks! 🖤
4 feet?! Oh my! That sounds like such a cool project. I hope you plan to display it in the tattoo shop. I'm so glad you're making your own Minis!
@@queencityminis It is *definitely* going to live in the shop when it’s finished -- my coworkers have been so excited watching the progress of every tiny shelf, chair, book, and teeny potted plant, haha. it’s going to be so long, but only 16” wide, luckily! We have a very skinny building (thankfully it’s not as wide as it is long, or I might never finish the floor 🤣)
My favorite is the aged copper statue....well, really your dry humor is my favorite, but that wasn't a project, so.....anyway, your tutorials are wonderful, I haven't seen even one I didn't love!
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that, and thank you again for the Super Thanks!
So many good ideas! Thanks for sharing...
Glad you like them!
This was a great one really enjoyed it. If you really want to know I would have liked a wood handle. Keep up the excellent work
I like that! Thank you 😊
I cannot believe how beautiful you’ve made everything you are so incredible. I so love to see your videos. Thank you so so much for sharing. It’s all amazing.❤❤ and so funny 😆
You are so welcome!
Another great video, thanks for such wonderful ideas, you are such an inspiration!! 💖
I appreciate that 😊
You had me Laughing on this video.
Mission accomplished!
How did I miss this, I’m so sorry my highness
thank so for your wisdom!!!
You are so welcome 🤗
Super cute!!!😍
Thank you! 😊
I like how you purposely sound like a flight attendant giving instructions while you sneak in some sense of humor. 😂
Hahaha I love that
You mad genius you 😅
Thank you!
I particularly like the topiary ~ I made some in the past, but I used styrofoam balls instead of tin foil. I think the tin foil would work better bc you can make it any size you want. I think I'll remake mine.....
Just make sure you paint the aluminum foil first. You can see tiny sparkly bits of mine through the flocking. Nothing too crazy, but not ideal.
Very sharp scissors 😂 we’ve all been there
great job!
Thanks!
I have terrible luck finding good white gel pens…especially fine/extra fine tip. What pen did you use?? The dots look so uniform & small!
They're really inexpensive pens I got from Temu. The pens look so cheap, but the white is nice and pigmented. I showed them off in a Temu haul.
Do you remember which video where u showed the Temu white gel pens u used? I have ordered some from Temu before & they didn’t work well….inconsistent, gloppy, etc.
Your “stitching “ was so perfect!
Howdy, hope you and yours are well. lol I too love your humor, "...I'm using sharp scissors..." to name a few ... made me smile. I thoroughly enjoyed all of your transformations but flowers are my favs. Q: May I ask which tacky wax do you use? I got Deluxe, Tacky Wax, round, red container but nah stuff holds for only short while then items fall ...
Thank you 😊

@@queencityminis Howdy oohh thank you so much for the link. You rock.
Those eggs look like they have bras on not shells lol
Someone else said the same thing and now I can't unsee it 😆
@@queencityminis well no one wants or needs unsupported fried eggs lol 😂
When you made the topiary, you said you added rubbing alcohol to „break the surface tension“. What has created this tension and where is it? Why does it need to be broken? Would love to understand what is going on with that.
I should have shown what happens if you don't use the rubbing alcohol. If you try to add water down glue to the surface of the flocking, it tends to sit on the surface. It looks like a bubble of glue water just sitting atop the flocking. If you spray it with rubbing alcohol, the glue flows easily in between all the tiny spaces of the flocking. I'm not entirely sure how it works.
Cant choose a fav.! All good. Yes, "2 balls are more normal than 3".(ha). I would've tossed that racket, but U manipulated it into a fine 1:12. I notice u often use wood glue to smooth out finishes. Ur preferred brand, please?
Thank you! Everyone likes Gorilla Wood Glue. I've been using the Dollar Tree brand wood glue but Gorilla is my favorite.
@@queencityminisok thanks Shyla, u da best !
Hi! I’m looking forward to seeing what you create. Curious, did you go to the Cincinnati bins or the Dayton bins? I have never had a lot of luck at the Cincinnati bins, I think the Dayton ones have more. It has been a while since I have been to the Cincinnati one though, so I am curious if they are better now.
Neither! I'm from Massachusetts. I noticed if I go to the bins on a Monday morning, there are leftover bins from Sunday afternoon so it's not as good until they roll out the new bins.
@@queencityminis oh, I am sorry for the confusion. The nickname for Cincinnati is The Queen City, so that is why I thought you were from Cincinnati, my bad 😣
Your advice about Monday bin hunting is spot on, i think that is why the bins where i live are busiest on Mondays.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Those darn fumes of melted gloves will make you question all your mini life decisions!😂
Seriously noxious gases!
Hey queen! Can u make a vid about diy miniature art stuff? Like mini paint brush? Palette? Also great video
That would be so cute! I'll add it to my list of video ideas.

Hi, Shyra. What is your shooting setup? Do you use your phone or a camera? thanks!
I use a camera, a Sony EV z10. I have a telescoping arm that comes off the wall behind me and the holds the camera pointed down at my desk.
So funny.
Thank you ☺️
You are amazing. I like the vase of flowers the best but the topiary is a close second. I can just imagine the smell of burnt rubber/latex. Not nice.
It was so stinky! I had to turn my air purifier on to get rid of it.
Uhhhh so I knew about baking soda and super glue but not into paint for stone texture 🤯🤯🤯. Frankenstein hand 😂😂😂😂 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you are making me laugh.
Thank you 😊
There's a chance the baking soda will grow into a weird crystal. It happened to Bentley House Minis. Must be rare though.
@@queencityminis too bad it ain't diamonds 😂😂😂
Forgive my sense of humour, but those egg shells remind me of little bras 🤭
Now I can't unsee it lol
I tried your paint+baking soda technique on some plastic Temu planters and the results are amazing !! Thanks so much for sharing your talents !
Wonderful! Sounds like it was fun and I'm glad it turned out great.
