One of my top favorite cars. Glad you got the 368. Excellent engine. The dash design is one of my favorites. Great car to drive because it's not too big to manage in traffic. If I had to choose one classic car to drive, this would probably be it.

Loved the vid! As someone who stumbled onto your channel because I also decided to buy a 23 Lexus GX white Black Line, I also love this car. My Aunt had one when I was a kid, I think it was an 84-white with that navy leather. I thought I was so fancy when I got to ride around in Aunt Cathy’s Cadillac-brings back memories. And my other car besides the Lexus happens to be a dark blue 2019 Cadillac so I appreciated this one especially-though mine doesn’t have a stainless steel roof which has to be the coolest feature.

Cool nostalgic purchase indeed. There were quite a few Caddys in the Asian American community here in California during the 80s that drove these amongst the Mercedes Benz. This was right before the Lexus hit the market obviously.

Thank you for sharing that is a really cool car. I wish I had one brings back old times and you do the old saying he could fit two bodies in the back at a drunk no problem.

Hello David: very nicely taken care of 1981 Eldorado. The paint improvement is impressive compared to your first video on this car. I have a 1985 Eldorado (non-Biarritz) and it has the same color scheme as yours, without the stainless steel roof and extra chrome side molding at the beltline. Even though my Eldorado has about 65K miles, the original HT 4100 engine runs reliably and smooth, but does lack in horsepower. I have the aluminum rally wheels that have the Cadillac crest in the center (it was an option). I noticed that both your front seats have power recliners as does mine. The drivers seat power recliner is very rare. Enjoy!

Boo...even though I prefer Toyotas in general, still got to respect the nostalgia of the malaise era of GM stuff, since I rode in many Caddys of this era...before the advent of Lexus and other Japanese luxury makers

David, I switch to my rose tinted glasses before watching your Cadillac Eldorado videos. 😉At 3:24 we see the vinyl covered landau roof. Today people always talk about soft-touch interiors but in those days we had soft-touch exteriors. 😁

Beautiful car. The interior looks In great shape as well as the outside. My dad had a 1984 4 door Cadillac and I got to drive it for a few months. Enjoy it.

7:24 GM originally billed these as "4 passenger cars" for 1979, despite there being plenty of room for 3 in back, but by 1985, they were installing 3 seat belts in the back, in an admission that customers wanted to fit 3 when the need arose. They might have also beefed up the brakes, as they did when they started putting a 3rd seat belt in the J-cars. I wonder if the earlier cars have anchors for that 3rd belt; that would be a big advantage for some owners.

That's a cool car. I've heard that the V-8-6-4 can will run smoothly as an 8 or a 4, so if you deactivate the 6 cylinder mode, it can still run well, though it might be hard to get the deactivation-specific replacement parts, like the solenoids, these days.

This car is a nice-looking example of automotive nostalgia. YOu obviously are proud to own it and I don[t want to dampen your enjoyment.
But a lady I used to know had one she bought new, and it was just the worst car I ever came close to. During the five or so years of ownership it just fell apart. The sunvisor kept falling down and had to be fixed in place. The large and heavy door, always a worry when parked next to other cars in a parking space, started sagging, which caused the window to misalign in the frame. After going down the road a while, it would suddenly make a popping sound as it settled into the groove.
Other concerns were a plastic tray underneath the engine that came loose and started dragging on the ground. Lastly, the car develop on problem common on many GM models, the mix door for hot and cold air underneath the dash got stuck so the controls wouldn't work any more.
Eventually, she traded the car for a Lexus 400 that had just started to sell in the US. It was like waking up from a nightmare.

    Very nice
I am curious to know if you can do a quality control measurement of the fit and finish and quality of this Cadillac vs. a Toyota product of the same year. Are they comparable? We’re Japanese automakers such as Toyota making a better quality car at this time? Was the fit and finish as good as, better than, or lagging behind at this time. There line up in 1981 was not considered luxury but was the fit, and build quality anywhere near that of the Cadillac. Gap test, paint quality, engine reliability…is there anything that you see that might point to Toyotas future rise in the automotive industry. What are your options on this?
In your video of your walk through the Toyota factory in Japan you spoke about Toyota quality control is this on the rise in 1981? Where systems implemented in 1981 that would allow for better quality control in Toyota’s facilities. How does this compare and contrast to the development of and production of Cadillacs in 1981. This would be a fascinating dive…

It’s so weird you made this video. My family had this car and LOVED IT. We had a metallic gold one, it was back when Cadillac’s were actually built well. Amazingly comfortable, reliable, and we owned it for a long time. This video really brought back memories of my childhood. Thanks for making it.

My dad had a 90s Caddy and it was a super comfortable car with lots of power. I always thought the people driving those were old people. wonder why they wanted all that power......Now I am an old person and appreciate it :)

Has a mechanic the first three years of the early eighties Cadillac Eldorado’s were the better engines even the 81 just disconnect the solenoids and the engine will be fine a stronger engine than the 4100 engines

As a kid in the late 80s and early 90s I grew up with Cadillac's. Everyone in my family had one at one time or another. My Grandmother still has her '92 that she bought preowned in '93. One thing I remember about the 80s Caddies were their Comfortable Valor Seats😎. My oldest cousin Dad had one of these back then. This is Truly a Beautiful Car.

Luxury cars really stand out so much more when they are all Black or all White..perhaps you wanted to drive a couch.. a 40 or 50 year old Toyota would be epic..a Toyota Century would be so much more of a luxury vehicle..

Very cool car, and a story I can bond with as someone who has spent irrational time and funds restoring a beloved car from my youth.
I've had a few cars with frameless windows and would advise against closing the door by pushing on the glass.
Looking forward to seeing this restored to its full glory!

1981 has the V8-6-4 368 as the standard gasoline engine. The HT4100 arrived in 1982. I have a 1985 that had engine failure around 93,00 miles. I had a new 4100 installed at Renick Cadillac in Fullerton. The car now has 117,678 miles and runs perfectly.

Add those coolant pellets, change the coolant every 2 years and keep up with oil changes & the 4100 is a decent motor
