The music is the half of this movie... the other half... is Nastassja.... a wonderful film - directed by a wonderful director!!!

My grandmother showed me this movie when I was like 13. I love it and just now I finally found out what the name of the movie is. Can’t wait to watch it again. I’m hoping she still has the film so I can ask for it.

    The beauty of it all.
Grateful that I am able to be a part of this wonderful novel. Miss Kinski takes my breath away.
    I am so lucky.

@Janet Figley - Did you know how much Ms. Kinski resembles Sharon Tate? Sharon read the book and suggested to Polanski that it should be made into a film. He dedicated the film to Sharon and created one of the most beautiful features to ever grace the big screen.

@@HappySunshineDay Kinsi doesn't resemble Sharon. Sharon was far more beautiful. And to be honest Roman never loved her really. Otherwise he hadn't been cheated on her even when she was pregnant. He didn't even tell his children about Sharon. When interviewer asked why, he just answered ''What's the point''. Polanskiy is just selfish and manipulator. That's all. As a person. What about his moves-yes, he is talented and I don't believe that all charges of sexual abuse were true. But as for Sharon, he didn't love her.

One of the best “historical” films ever made, 45 years later it hardly is “dated” at all. The subsequent versions are good, but don’t touch it in quality. The soundtrack is still deeply evocative and moving, and Nastassija Kinski will remain beautiful during iconic,

How Angel should have loved her!
Alec Stoke may have created her fate, but rather than saving her, Angel ultimately sealed it. Angel destroyed Tess just as surely as Alec ever did.
More than a literary beauty, Hardys' "Tess" is a heroine for all time.

What it mean's when she talks about lying on the grass at night & fixing on a star feeling your soul leave the body. Thomas Hardy is writing about being in the eternal now in Nature & it is also a reference about Astral projection. Purity is the most beautiful truth, yet vulnerability is the darkest.

I can't believe reading this for a book report when I was 12. I was a voracious reader for English classics at that age, then my Mom gave me a copy of Anne of Green Gables because Anne was more at my age level.

A gorgeous film. The marked beauty of the world around her is somehow a terribly sad a contrast to the child's life. Loveliness is forever attacked and handicapped by an oppressive-hideous constraint.
If you like this film, another that I know you would also enjoy is one made around the same time; somehow the 'feeling' is very similar-
it's called 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'.
