Having a high fight IQ is the way to go. Being a good counter striker and high level IQ in the midst of a fight go hand in hand though so that's probably why you see it being a good path to go. You can be a killer whilst always going first though if you're smart and aware of what's coming back your way.

Works for some guys but if it goes the distance one can lose to the judges for not being aggressive enough

Vs an aggressive strategy countering is effective . But also great for frustration and disruption of am enemies rhythm
Depends.... sometimes people will push aggressively to fake striking you and get that reaction from you to see how you counter n use it against you
