Thanks for the heartfelt trip down memory lane,it brought tears to my eyes.
I was a bus driver in Edinburgh since the 90s i remember going to work proud to be working in Edinburgh and how beautiful and clean she was back then.
I retired last year not recognising the city i once was happy to take folk around, Edinburgh really was stunning back then before the council started making disastrous decisions year on year, it bothered me so much to see my city how she is now i moved away to Fife.

These are priceless. I remember Edinburgh in the 50s and how beautiful the city was. You could stand anywhere on Princes Street and admire the view ...the length of the street and the beauty of the gardens. Now you are hard pushed to walk in safety, there is so much encroaching the road and pavements. A mess and a pity. Thank you for a few minutes memory.

Great pictures, takes me back to when Edinburgh was a beautiful city. Smiling at the pics of the cops directing traffic…..even into the Eighties I was still doing that, and if the weather was half decent it wasn’t a bad number. That was pre high vis clothing, and many the time I had to jump for it when some driver wasn’t paying attention.
      Thanks for the memories

0:38 Binns. I used to see adverts on the backs of busses with “Shop at Binns”. I wondered if they had a daughter called Lydia (Lydia Binn😂😂😂)

BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES OF A BEAUTIFUL CITY, NOW RUINED BY MODERN ARCHITECTURE AN OVERCROWDING, WHY DO WE HAVE TO AGE AND WHY DO THINGS HAVE TO CHANGE, MISS THE GOOD OLD DAYS AND THE GOOD FOLKS.... YMM4LIFE.....

No, ruined by Polish immigrants. Most of these buildings are still there but the Scottish people aren’t. All pushed out and unable to get social housing, jobs, school places, GP places etc due to the absolute hordes and hordes of Poles that arrived by the plane load in 2004 onwards.
Nothing but I scrubbed up Warsaw these days and all the Edinburgh folk having to move on

These are incredible, what time period?.
Our precious city as it was back when it was beautiful and unique. Now it's a mess and ugly thanks to Edinburgh City Council.
The pic at 2:46, is this the top of Leith street from princess st before St James centre was built?

mostly the 50's & 60's when they cleared the tenements away. Yeah between the council and the university they've done more damage to the city than the Luftwaffe

I'm surprised just how similar it is to even today on its locations, 2nd last picture though, isn't that ''Cockburn Street'' or is that the street on the right of picture 3:31 just a little bit behind the cars? and the picture at 3:58 I'm unsure of, I Thought it was near the bottom of the royal mile. but I was looking at it a bit more. its either that or top of royal mile where off to the right heads off to greyfryers. but still I can't work it out. I recognised evey other place! you even had the street that goes down to greyfryers on there at 3:31 to the right is gonna be up to castle, left is towards palace, hunter square etc. but its crazy, even in the 1800's we'd still reognize everything... only thing i've noticed is the roads are MUCH wider, some paths, pavements etc are completely different in a sense of how we traveled. its insane, Edinburgh back then looks so much nicer Q_Q and to see the streets so quiet is a sense of ''wow''

2nd last picture is the bottom of the Pleasance the Flodden Wall and the Salvation Army Hostel just visible on the right.
3:31 is George IV Bridge, just a little bit behind the cars is the opening of Victoria St. then the Central Library.
3:58 is Buccleuch St the opening mid left leads to St Patrick's Sq

@@spennie3607 yeah so I was right. Because down that street takes you to grass market (the place behind the cars on the right aka where the bank is) then further down is where museum and grey fryers is
