I landed here after reading about the passing of Prince Philip. When I read that he was an expert carriage driver. I imagined a stately drive around the estate with an exquisitely matched pair of high-stepping horses... Boy, was I wrong!

Thank you for putting this documentary up. I learned to ride and drive in the Windsor area, and great memories they are. Prince Philip very good with the four-in-hand, what a pleasure to watch.

Hey you guys realize the uploader David is in fact mentioned in the documentary as the Prince's head coachman, how awesome is that! Thanks so much for this Mr. Saunders!

This needs to be on every channel ❤ horse people unite! That Oldenburg Cleveland Bay cross is epic, he was a man that really understood what a good horse is.

My favorite video! I send the curious to this site, as HRH Duke of Edinburgh is so talented, helpful and explaining the art of driving horses.

until recently I didn't know that was his hobby and he was a land rover fan.

To me, combined driving is the most challenging and exacting sport, requiring precise cooperation among the driver, crew and team. I'm always amazed at how willing the horses are to cooperative for mastering such intricate moves. I have no idea who the driver can keep the reins straight during difficult maneuvers. I'm surprised this sport has not generated much more public acclaim. It's much more interesting that racing or jumping.

Prince Philips' carriages might look old fashioned but were state of the art cutting edge at the time, even the timekeeping clock a large digit daylight-viewing LCD display, over 20 years predating Amazon Kindle daylight reader

I loved combined driving events when I had a horse that could do it well - he loved it too.

If you want to hear a 'real' British accent, go and watch Barry Hook's driving videos - Horse Drawn Productions.
